Abstract

SUMMARY: This article describes the development and evaluation of a practicable, assessment-linked, early language training programme - comprising the Early Language Profile (ELP) and an itemised set of training ideas - suitable for mentally handicapped children from the earliest stages of development up to the emergence of a more complex syntax.
