So why is it that people take so long to accept that their hearing is impaired and investigate the potential solutions? The purpose of this paper is to discover, by means of a literature review, some of the barriers that an individual may encounter during the journey of ‘ownership’ of their hearing loss, and to determine how, once the decision has been made to address their hearing problems, the interaction between client and professional can facilitate or impede solution finding.","PeriodicalId":316775,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Otolaryngology-ENT Research","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126784389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Overlay technique carries a risk of graft lateralization, anterior blunting, delayed healing, stenosis of the external canal, epithelial pearls, and iatrogenic cholesteatoma.6 Despite its higher success in repairing anterior and subtotal perforations, there is a consensus concerning the overlay technique being more technically challenging.7 The underlay technique is perhaps more commonly used worldwide, this technique is easier to perform, lower risk for lateralization, less time consuming, with more acceptable success rate even in the hands of less-experienced surgeons. In this technique, the graft is placed medial to the entire tympanic membrane remnant and also to the malleus handle and is more suitable for posterior perforations.8 This technique has disadvantages including a decreased mesotympanic space, medial displacement of the graft, synaechae formation between graft and promontory and lower success rate in subtotal and anterior perforations.6","PeriodicalId":316775,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Otolaryngology-ENT Research","volume":"129 15","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114065592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, people at high risk of heart attack take low dose of Aspirin daily1 as a mean of secondary prevention.2 With regard to its protective effects, Aspirin as an antioxidant appears to be neuroand otoprotective.3 However, studies show that administration of high doses Aspirin (325 mg) had an ototoxic effect leading to hearing loss.4 On the other hand, studies have shown that co-administration of Aspirin with gentamicin, which is considered to be ototoxic, had a protective effect against hearing loss,5 also animal studies have shown that NSAIDs in low doses can protect against cochlear injury due to noise and aging, but the effect on human is yet to be determined.6 In our study, we aimed to find out if administration of low dose Aspirin (81 mg) had a protective impact against hearing loss due to aging.","PeriodicalId":316775,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Otolaryngology-ENT Research","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116289455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of these post hoc analyses we re-evaluated these data to determine if differences in smell function between hyposmic men and women occurred after theophylline treatment and attempted to understand how these differences occurred.","PeriodicalId":316775,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Otolaryngology-ENT Research","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132482024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Clinical Case: Based on patients who consulted for disorders of smell, from October 2013 to October 2014, 30 patients aged 6-16 years were detected, 3 women under 15 years old; they had anosmia that were proven by olfactometry and absence of olfactory bulbs in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. One patient had lost of hearing too.
