Referring to the importance of MCS in mathematics problemsolving, this study was intended to analyze students' mathematical communication skills in solving a mathematics problem. This study employed a case study design with the participants of the study were 3 students of the eighth-grade of Junior High School in Indonesia. The data of this study was dug up through observation, documentation, and interview. The findings reveal that only 1 out of 3 students’ is able to express mathematical ideas; understand, interpret and assess or respond to mathematical ideas; and use terms, notations, and symbols to present mathematical ideas. This study implies that the students' mathematical communication skills are still needed to be developed. This study should be taken into account by the Mathematics teachers to not only teach mathematics but also stimulate the students' mathematical communication skills through creative and innovative learning activities.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126523568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It adopted a mixed method approach (QUANTITATIVE→ qualitative.). The population consisted of about 590 consisted of Iranian university and institute students out of which 147 were sampled. They were administered three questionnaires and five were interviewed. To gauge teachers’ assertive classroom management, we utilized a questionnaire developed by Shawer (2010). It includes 37 items measuring four components of teacher’s assertive classroom management (organization, teaching strategies, teacher-student relationship strategies, teacher’s punishment- reward strategies). To assess students' perceptions of classroom activities, a scale designed and validated by Gentry and Gable (2001) was utilized. It comprises 31 items and consists of 4 components (interest, challenge, choice, and joy). The students’ goal orientations were measured via ‘achievement goal orientation inventory’ designed by Midgley, et al. (1998). The inventory comprised three subscales (mastery-approach, performance-approach, performance-avoidance approach) and a total of 18 items. In the quantitative phase, the results demonstrated that teachers’ assertive classroom management strategies predicted students' perceptions of classroom activities exhibiting the highest influence on challenge and interest respectively. Mastery goal was influenced by teacher assertive classroom management The results of the quantitative phase confirmed the findings of the quantitative phase.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115908233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated the influence of peer pressure on sexual behavior of undergraduates in Kwara State. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study as well as multi stage sampling procedure. A total of 395 undergraduates participated in the study, four research questions were generated to guide the conduct of the study, while three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The instrument used for data collection for this study was a researchers-designed and structured questionnaire entitled “Influence of Peer Pressure Questionnaire” (IPPQ). The findings revealed that the influence of peer pressure on sexual behavior of undergraduates reveals that it leads students to erotic electro-stimulation, prostitution, risk of contracting Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and involvement in incest. There were no significant differences in the influence of peer pressure on sexual behavior of undergraduates in Kwara State based on gender and age. There was a significant difference in the influence of peer pressure on sexual behavior of undergraduates in Kwara State based on university attended. It was therefore recommended, among others that counsellors should enlighten the students on how peer pressure could be used to channel the students’ behavior towards positive activities, counsellors should inform the students about the positive and negative influence of peer pressure to enhance self-esteem and social skills rather than for abusive purposes to students of different gender and age and counsellors should look for underlying issues that may have led to exhibition of risk sexual behavior through peer pressure and try to identify the perpetrators so that the victims could be offered counselling on assertiveness skills, socialization skills and improving self-concept.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126466704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study also sought whether variables such as gender, religion and educational qualification would affect the respondents’ views. Descriptive survey method was adopted for this study. Using a three-stage sampling technique, four hundred respondents in Kwara State were selected to participate in the study. The data was gathered with the use of a researcher-designed instrument titled “Attitude of Parents towards Sexuality Education Questionnaire (APSEQ). The t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical tools were employed to analyze the formulated null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Results showed that the attitude of parents towards sexuality education for in-school adolescents in Kwara State is negative. Also, there were significant differences in the attitude of parents towards sexuality education for in-school adolescents in Kwara State based on gender and educational qualification, but no significant difference was found on religion. Based on the findings of this study, recommendations were made among others that counsellors should educate parents on the need and importance of sexuality education so as to develop positive attitude towards it. Parents should be made to realize that sexuality education will reduce unwanted pregnancies, prevent sexually transmitted diseases among many other advantages. It should be made known to parents that sexuality education is meant to curb risky sexual behaviours and not escalate it.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128110770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using computers and statistical packages, implementation of multivariate factor analysis and other multivariate methods becomes possible for researchers. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis are applied in different studies; however, exploratory factor analysis as one of the most important data analysis methods is not well understood. Despite the rising number of researchers who understand it many researchers in various fields still have a false view. This paper reviews methods based on reliable sources and provides a practical guide to conduct an exploratory factor analysis. This paper presents step-by-step of different stages of exploratory factor analysis using SPSS and Montecarlo software. This study could pave the way for students, researchers and teachers who want to use heuristic analysis in their studies of different types of questions, purpose, method of analysis and report writing.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133284732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Social emotional learning involves people obtaining and implementing knowledge, affect, and skills / abilities in order to manage emotions, achieve strength-based goals, show empathy, create healthy relationships, as well as make healthy choices. The five core competencies that embody social emotional learning include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. In addition to ensuring that students’ possess hard technical skills in order to be academically proficient and successful, school counselors are also encouraged to integrate social emotional learning components into their comprehensive counseling program to promote college and career readiness. It is imperative that upon graduation, all students are able to communicate, solve problems, resolve conflicts, regulate their emotions, manage time and stress, possess motivation, zest, optimism, as well as leadership skills, as these core skills are paramount in helping them to be college and career ready, as well as productive members of society at large.","PeriodicalId":314053,"journal":{"name":"Anatolian Journal of Education","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124587360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
