The person with heart failure faces biopsychosocial changes that impair their quality of life. It is necessary to know the relationship between self-care and quality of life, which can guide the nursing professional in the design of effective interventions. Objective. To determine the relationship between the capacity of self-care agency and healthrelated quality of life in people with heart failure who are treated in the multidisciplinary program of heart failure in a fourth level health institution in Bogotá, Colombia. Method. Descriptive study correlational, cross-sectional, made between May and August 2018; using the Appraisal of Self-care agency Scale Instruments and the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire; the sample corresponded to 107 patients, of legal age, with stage C and D heart failure. Results. The capacity of self-care agency was in high category with 63.55% and very high with 34.57%; the health-related quality of life was preserved, with an overall score of 73.33; the relationship between the two variables, according to the Spearman correlation coefficient, was 0.316 with a value p = 0.002, a weak but significant relationship. Conclusions. There is a relationship between the variables of interest, which is reaffirmed with the significant correlations identified between the dimensions that comprise them. Knowing and duly attending to the needs of a human being in the midst of his vulnerability, continues to be an ongoing challenge. Objective. Describe the transformation of “Attention to basic needs” in a moment of nursing care to favor the adaptation of the patient and their family caregiver during hospitalization, Universidad de La Sabana Clinic, 2018-2019. Method. is is a Nursing Methodology Research under the guidelines of the University of La Sabana Nursing Model that included four phases. Results. It is necessary that the attention to basic needs is supported by the best available evidence and in the human care. e description of this process helped the researchers to measure and improve it. Conclusions. To give humane and safe care, good intention is not enough, it is necessary to guarantee two conditions; the commitment required to support it in the best available evidence, improving the quality of care and the warmth or human tone; with respect and recognition of the dignity of people, favoring the bond with them, such as their autonomy, which in turn has a positive impact on the development of nursing. A diabetes como doença crónica, representa um grave problema de saúde pública a nível mundial, pela sua incidência, e pela elevada taxa de morbilidade e mortalidade com fortes repercussões na vida das pessoas. Objetivo. Conhecer efeito de programa de educação para a saúde sobre o conhecimento da diabetes, capacitação para o autocuidado e literacia em saúde no idoso diabético. Método. Estudo quasi-experimental de grupo único, com amostra de 40 participantes diabéticos tipo 2, com 65 ou mais anos de idade, autónomos. Instrumentos: Questionário Sociodemográfico e Clínico; Questionário de Avaliação de Conhecimentos (DKQ-24) (α = 0.83); Escala Atividades de Autocuidado com a Diabetes (α = 0.62); Questionário Literacia Newest Vital Sign (α = 0.76). Realizou-se uma análise estatística descritiva e inferencial. Resultados. Diferenças estatisticamente significativas no conhecimento sobre diabetes entre o 1º e 2º momento de avaliação. Nas atividades de autocuidado com a diabetes encontramos diferenças estatisticamente significativas nas atividades Alimentação, Alimentação Específica e Cuidados com os Pés. A literacia em saúde, na 1ª avaliação, situou-se a um nível de alta probabilidade de literacia limitada e após intervenção evoluiu positivamente, demonstrando um aumento do nível de literacia. Conclusão. Este estudo comprovou a importância dos programas de educação para a saúde como uma ferramenta potente para a capacitação da pessoa diabética. Objective: To describe the culture of patient safety from the perception of operating room nursing professionals. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study that collected the results of the anonymous patient safety culture survey prepared by the Agency for Health Research and Quality, adapted to Spanish in the post-congress course on Electrosurgery for Instrumentalists. e survey was conducted on a sample of 67 professional nurses who work at 10 operating rooms located in Havana (Cuba) to evaluate their perception. Positive and negative responses to the 50 items were analyzed, including an overall safety rating. Survey information was coded, collected, and processed in a database compiled in the Excel statistical processor, which was then converted for analysis to SPSS version 21.0 for Windows. Result: Of the 67 surveys analyzed, 100% of the respondents rated the overall degree of safety as positive. e dimensions organizational learning, management support, and teamwork between units were highlighted as strengths. e rest of the dimensions (except for the nonpunitive response dimension, which was classi ed as a weakness) were classi ed as opportunities for improvement. Objective: To describe the perception of men on having type 2 diabetes mellitus across the Colombian population. Method: Qualitative-descriptive study with content analysis based on an inductive categorization. Six participants who met the inclusion criteria (men, older than 30 years of age, with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and with a duration of the disease of at least one year in 2016) were included. Semi-structured interviews were conducted on their process and perception of the disease in their lives, which were then analyzed and coded using the Atlas.ti program. Results: e 7 categories obtained account for the perception of men regarding the disease. ese perceptions show an association of health with the absence of symptoms and pain. Objective: To assess compliance with ve dimensions that strengthen the hand hygiene strategy for biological risk prevention in healthcare settings. Method: Observational, cross-sectional study in ve institutions providing healthcare services with the application of descriptive statistics. e Median Test evaluated whether there were signicant differences among groups of professionals per health institution, considering a p ≤ 0.05 to be signicant. e analysis was completed with a discriminant analysis. Results: First-level hospital institutions showed representative results where the nursing staff, followed by physicians, had a better compliance with the handwashing protocol. is percentage was impacted by the lower compliance with the provisioning of supplies and infrastructure.ere is a perfect differentiation between the results of the municipality of Cali compared those of Caicedonia, and in contrast with the results of Popayán, Buga, and Buenaventura. First, the research question was dened to provide an answer for the objective; then, the selection criteria were established; and, nally, articles for the period 2007-2018 were found through a search in the Pub Med, Scopus, EBSCO, Web of Science, and OVID databases. Studies were then assessed and analyzed using EndNote and subsequently summarized to extract their corresponding theses. Results: A total 1,172 articles were identied across databases, out of which 15 studies were chosen and from these only 3 met the eligibility criteria and methodological quality. e sample shows that a lower EI leads to a more intense and frequent consumption of illegal substances, thus leading to greater difficulties in emotional management and regulation. Objective: To determine the burden of care on family caregivers and the level of functional dependency or chronic illness of their family member. Method: Quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study, carried out in the city of Medellin (Colombia) from November 2017 to September 2019. The sample was comprised of 494 people, as appropriate. The Zarit and Pulses instruments were applied, and sociodemographic variables were taken into account. Data were analyzed with the SPSS version 25 program. Measures of centrality and dispersion were applied to the quantitative variables. Frequencies were analyzed for qualitative variables. Results: 89.7% of the sample are female, with a mean age of 53.5 years; 39% are single; 75.6% studied until high school; 83.1% are in charge of household tasks and have been a caregiver for 8.6 years, and 87.9% are the main caregiver, with problems of the cardiovascular, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems. For 29.4% of the participants, the burden is severe, followed by moderate, and the level of dependency of the person they care for is severe in 71% of the cases. Conclusions: In our environment, the majority of caregivers are single women, housekeepers, and take care of a relative (father, son). Objetivo: Determinar la validez y confiabilidad del cuestionario Orientación ante la Vida de Antonovsky, en adultos con hipertensión arterial. Método: Estudio de tipo metodológico en el que se realizó la adaptación cultural y se determinó la validez facial, de contenido, de constructo y confiabilidad. En la adaptación cultural se siguió un proceso de traducción, consenso y retrotraducción. La validez facial y de contenido se cumplió mediante el juicio de expertos, utilizando las pruebas estadísticas de coeficiente kappa de Fleiss e índice de Lawshe modificado. En la validez de constructo y prueba de confiabilidad participaron 220 personas. La confiabilidad se calculó mediante la prueba estadística de alfa de Cronbach. Resultados: En la validez facial, el instrumento reportó un índice kappa de Fleiss mayor a 0,41, interpretado como un acuerdo moderado. El índice de validez de contenido fue satisfactorio con 0,87, el análisis factorial exploratorio reportó tres factores con una varianza total explicada del 36,21 %. El alfa de Cronbach fue de 0,82 para la escala total. Conclusiones: La versión en español del instrumento Orientación ante la Vida presenta un adecuado índice de validez de contenido y confiabilidad para uso en el contexto local.
