By-products from processing crops and food products have received much attention as feed alternatives because of their consistent and mass production, one of them is a waste of coffee. This research was conducted to evaluate the substitution effect of rice bran with coffee pulp meal on feed efficiency and viscera organs of broiler. The 100 broilers (Hubbard strain) and placed randomly into 4 treatments (R0 = ration with rice bran 21% + 0% coffee pulp meal; R1 = ration with 14% rice bran + 7% coffee pulp meal; R2 = ration with 7% rice bran + 14% coffee pulp meal; R3 = ration with 0% rice bran + 21% coffee pulp meal and each treatment consisted of 5 replications, five broilers each. The broilers were arranged by completely randomized design; a Tukey test was used to compare mean different of the treatments. Substitution effect of Rice Bran with Coffee Pulp Meal on ration had significant effect on decreasing feed efficiency and significantly increase the weight percentage of heart, gizzard, pancreas, and intestine (P<0.05) but had no significant on the weight percentage of caecum in broiler (P>0.05) Tukey test showed that the higher proportion of coffee hull meal the feed consumption and body gain non-significant to R0, R1 and R2. On the other hand feed efficiency of R3 significantly lower compared to R0, R1and R2. The higher the percentage of liver, gizzard, pancreas and intestine weight. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of adding binder toxin from different bentonite to feed contaminated with AFB1 on productivity, intestinal morphology, and liver toxicity in broilers. A total of 60-day old chick male broilers were placed in 12 pens. Each treatment consisted of three replicates, each replicate containing five broilers. Treatment in the study consisted of P0 (control, basal diet, without the addition of AFB1), P1 (P0 + 100 µg/kg AFB1 + 4 g/kg calcium bentonite Type A), P2 (P0 + 100 µg/kg AFB1 + 4 g/kg calcium bentonite Type B), and P3 (P0 + 100 µg/kg AFB1 + 4 g/kg calcium bentonite Type B + kerolite + saponite). Treatment diets were given to broilers from day 22 to 35 (finisher phase). The results showed that the toxin binder on AFB1 contaminated feed had no effect on feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion (p>0.05). Addition of toxin binder on AFB1 contaminated feed increased the relative weight of the duodenum (p=0.024), although P3 was not significantly different. Treatments had no effect on villus length, crypt depth, and ratio of villus length to crypt depth (p>0.05), but decreased villus width (p=0.013). The addition of toxin binder tended to decrease the villus area (p=0.055). SGOT and SGPT did not show differences between treatments. AFB1 contamination with the addition of toxin binder showed signs of toxicity on liver histopathological observations. Based on the research, it can be concluded that the addition of binder toxin in feed contaminated with AFB1 can reduce the negative effect on the development of intestinal villus and chemical effect to the liver. This study aimed to evaluate the reproductive success rate and changes in the BUN status of Garut ewes fed sorghum-Indigofera in Majalengka District – West Java, Indonesia. Twenty-eight multiparous Garut ewes with an average body weight of 30 kg, aged 2-3 years or parity from 3rd to 4th, and non-pregnant were separated into two feed treatment groups; divided field grass (FG) and sorghum-Indigofera (SI) mixed feed. This study was designed using a Complete Randomized Design (CRD). After one month of feed acclimatization, all ewes were served an estrus synchronization protocol and mated naturally. A pregnancy test was carried out on the 28th day after mating using ultrasonography (USG). Seven blood samples were taken (1 time in the pre-mating phase and three times each in the pregnancy and lactation phases), and the BUN parameter was analyzed. The results showed that SI feed increased the number of ewes pregnant and giving birth compared to FG (10 vs. 9 and 9 vs. 6, respectively). Meanwhile, the average value of the BUN content of ewes in both FG and SI treatments during the premating, pregnancy, and lactation phases did not show any differences (p>0.05). The concentration of BUN is still in normal condition even though it has decreased from pre-mating until the lactation phase. It can be concluded that Sorghum-Indigofera mixed feed could increase reproductive success. However, the average value of BUN in the two types of feed treatment experienced the same status change in all reproductive phases. Both can overcome the energy deficit problem if they have sufficient feed.","PeriodicalId":31305,"journal":{"name":"Buletin Peternakan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42362112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to containing anti-nutrients, rice bran has also a low storability. This research was conducted to study the impact of using hermetic packaging and a preservative containing calcium propionate (ProsidTM MI 208) application on the physical properties of rice bran during storage. The factorial completely randomized design (CRD), 3 x 4 with 4 replications was applied. The first factor was storage time 0 (W0), 30 (W30), and 60 (W60) days; the second factor was burlap sack + 0 ppm calcium propionate (P1), burlap sack + 160 ppm calcium propionate (P2), hermetic sack + 0 ppm calcium propionate (P3), and hermetic sack + 160 ppm calcium propionate (P4). The variables measured were moisture content (MC), bulk density (BD), tapped density (TD) dan true density (TDS). The obtained data were analyzed using if there was a significant difference, followed by Duncan's multiple range test. The results showed that storage time significantly (P<0.05) increased the MC and decreased the BD, TD, and TDS values. The increasing MC and the decreasing BD, TD, and TDS values of the rice bran during storage were higher (P<0.05) in the burlap sakcs than in the hermetic sacks packaging both with and without the addition of calcium propionate. The combination of using hermetic sacks with the application of calcium propionate could further increase to maintain of the physical properties of rice bran from the damage. The use of a hermetic sack and the application of calcium propionate could maintain the quality of rice bran and increase the resistance of rice bran to damage during 60 days of storage.","PeriodicalId":31305,"journal":{"name":"Buletin Peternakan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45646798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
