This paper outlines first our methodology for designing and implementing such flexible service business processes. Second, it discusses tools to ease the specification and re-use of flexible service processes. Finally, it presents the methodology process. This process is the result of applying a framework of business process management to our methodology. Our methodology and its process were developed in a consulting project. For our client, the proposed change was a radical development process reengineering, for which we identified the key success soft-factors first. Then we developed the methodology process, which we also applied up to a certain step ourselves in the consulting project.","PeriodicalId":312957,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Conference on E-Commerce Technology (CEC'05)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116976098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A case study explores Covisint, one of the automotive industry's major electronic markets, as an example of a sector-specific approach to standards setting. This approach eventually failed, and the reasons for this failure are identified and analysed. The committee-based approach to standardisation is subsequently discussed. Theoretical deliberations, together with the outcome of a survey, lead to a number of recommendations how more relevant standards could be produced, and how the role of SMEs in standards setting could be improved.","PeriodicalId":312957,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Conference on E-Commerce Technology (CEC'05)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125467759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A multi-channel strategy by retailers allows shoppers to leverage different channels, such as Web, in-store and catalog/call center, for superior shopping experiences and ultimately increased store sales. This paper takes a further step in answering shoppers' needs for collaboration/coordination amongst shoppers in a multi-channel shopping environment. There are commerce paradigms beyond the basic \"shop at the Web\" and \"pickup at a store\", where people need to interact with one another, while each is working with a different channel and in different stores. In this paper, we choose multi-channel gift registry as such a commerce paradigm, and use gift list creation, management and shopping as case study processes to illustrate issues of collaborative shopping in a multi-channel environment. The architecture of an actual implementation is also described for discussions.","PeriodicalId":312957,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Conference on E-Commerce Technology (CEC'05)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121464002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the computational cost of this approach is a major concern, since each iteration of the EM algorithm requires a new SVD computation. We present a novel algorithm that incorporates SVD approximation into the EM procedure to reduce the overall computational cost while maintaining accurate predictions. Furthermore, we propose a new framework for collaborating filtering in distributed recommendation systems that allows users to maintain their own rating profiles for privacy. A server periodically collects aggregate information from those users that are online to provide predictions for all users. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results show that this framework is effective and achieves almost the same prediction performance as that of centralized systems.","PeriodicalId":312957,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Conference on E-Commerce Technology (CEC'05)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128872037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective of this paper is to develop a modeling methodology for selected classes of typical cooperation problems. The decision to execute one specific work item implicitly postpones the execution of all other items. This may lead to disproportionately increased execution durations of the associated workflows, especially if fixed-date constraints are defined on succeeding tasks. In this paper, we show how to utilize a workflows control structure augmented with information about timing behavior to calculate what delay to expect when the execution of a work item is postponed to certain dates. This information can be used to assist the participant in order to increase the workflow throughput and avoid time-related escalations.","PeriodicalId":312957,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Conference on E-Commerce Technology (CEC'05)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132385272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The negotiation mechanism takes a supply-chain perspective to the construction of software services, attempting to co-optimize individual negotiations between services providers and service consumers along the chain. Parties negotiate acceptable ranges of values for either independent or multi-linked issues. This enables mediator agents to collect negotiation information throughout a supply chain and formulate it as sets of optimization objectives and constraints. Two examples are presented to demonstrate how the model operates.","PeriodicalId":312957,"journal":{"name":"Seventh IEEE International Conference on E-Commerce Technology (CEC'05)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124068784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
