The antenna includes a semicircle shaped patch, two semicircle ground planes and a CPW-fed excitation to cover the ultra- wideband frequency operation (3.1 GHz ~ 10.6 GHz). By modifying the U-shaped slot, the frequency band notch within the operating bandwidth can be easily changed. The measured results show a return loss bandwidth of 12.3 GHz (2.7 GHz ~ 15 GHz), omnidirectional radiation patterns and reasonable gain over the UWB operating bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115197956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper reveals that, within the FAST TCP protocol, the forward flow suffers performance degradation in asymmetric networks with bi-directional flows. We disclose the reason for the performance degradation, i.e., the queue delay measured by forward flow in one-way path is severely influenced by backward flow. A novel method is proposed to ameliorate this situation by using TCP time stamp option. Simulation results demonstrate significant performance improvement of forward flow.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127112437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A channel model can perform the function of producing the channel output parameters, such as multipath delays, and signal direction of arrival. Geometrically based channel models are introduced by defining a propagation environment with a specific geometrical layout. This work focuses on geometrically based single bounce elliptical model, GBSBEM and geometrically based single bounce circular model, GBSBCM because of their ability to produce spatial channel characteristics that are tied to the physical propagation environment. Simulations that represent and implement the geometry of the channel for both models are designed and analyzed using Matlab software. A thorough study of the channel output parameters AOA, TOA, and joint AOA-TOA probability density functions is carried out. The impact of the geometric channel parameters on adaptation of AOA estimation is illustrated..","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127908789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the 802.16 standard throws adequate light on aspects of bandwidth-request and subsequent grants as well as supported service types, it however does not discuss service scheduling. In this paper, we propose a new scheduling algorithm, referred as service criticality (SC) based scheduling scheme. The SC scheme offers fairness, efficiency and low-latency scheduling and facilitates QoS guarantees. SC is based on a dual of buffer occupancies at nodes and allowable latencies for a particular service. We compare SC scheme with round-robin and max-min fair scheduling schemes under different system loads. We observe that while round robin and max-min scheme does not guarantee QoS support at high loads, the SC scheme facilitates efficient scheduling even at heavy loads. Simulation based study is reported that considers a multitude of services using realistic physical and MAC layer models. Delay and blocking results are investigated. The SC concept shows betterment over conventional max-min scheme as well as round robin.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127913209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This requires the provision of seamless vertical handoff. This paper provides components of an adaptive multiple attribute vertical handoff decision algorithm that enables access network selection at a mobile node. A performance study using the integration of wireless wide area networks (WWANs) and wireless local area networks (WLANs) as an example shows that our proposed vertical handoff decision algorithm is able to determine when a handoff is required, and selects the best access network that is optimized to network conditions, quality of service requirements, user preferences, and service cost.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131936444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although, the recently proposed techniques are successful in achieving high degree of anonymity, there are some disadvantages associated with the proposed techniques. In this paper we analyze the flooding and packet drop attacks in mobile ad hoc networks that support anonymous communication. Then we propose a novel technique to deal with the flooding attacks. Our approach can efficiently identify and isolate the malicious node that floods the network. In addition, our technique provides a mechanism to identify the benign behavior of an expelled node and rejoins the expelled node back into the network. Furthermore, our approach does not require any additional packets to communicate the behavior of the flooding node and hence does not incur any additional overhead. Finally we validate the performance analysis of our technique through NS2 simulations.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128723325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
