However being operated by batteries of finite capacity, energy efficiency is still the major concern in the design of protocols in such networks. In this paper, we first introduce a new sensing scheme that allows variable accuracy to be specified by end users to achieve a trade-off between accuracy and energy efficiency. We then consider the connected active node selection for network lifetime prolongation problem under the proposed scheme by modifying the route weights in a pre-existing algorithm and introduce a new algorithm. The objective of this work is to allow trade-off between accuracy and energy efficiency in a sensor network and use only a subset of sensors to realize a given query, so that energy at inactive ones can be conserved. Extensive experiments show that the proposed sensing scheme and algorithms attain a longer network lifetime by selecting a subset of sensors to provide data at an accuracy determined by end users.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129826233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The contributions in this paper provide a framework for estimating the trust between nodes in an ad hoc network based on quality of service parameters. Probabilities of transit time variation, deleted, multiplied and inserted packets, processing delays are used to estimate and update trust. Functions which facilitate this are provided and evaluated. It has been shown that only two end nodes need to be involved and thereby achieve reduced overhead. The framework proposed is applicable and useful to estimate trust in covert unobservable and anonymous communications.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115793079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A channel with land mobile fading spectrum with the autocorrelation function introduced by Jake is considered for simulations. Normalized Doppler rate fN is actually the product of the actual Doppler rate fD and the duration of the transmitted symbol T. The discrete version of Karhunen-Loeve expansion is utilized to produce a complex Gaussian process in which each of its instant values is correlated to past values based on an arbitrary autocorrelation function. This expansion is also used to expand the channel matrix with each entry being a complex Gaussian process. This is a computationally efficient technique for statistical simulations to evaluate the ergodic capacity and can be used to avoid lengthy numerical computations.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"363 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114774432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This new architecture works across different positioning technologies (particle filters and GPS) and provides optimal position tracking in real time for an outdoor mobile user. A new adaptive SIP retransmission timer is proposed that is designed specifically for real time location tracking in an outdoor environment. This new retransmission timer is aligned with the motion model of the mobile user. We extend the architecture to allow other location based network information, such as that residing in quality of service (QoS) aware servers, to be seamlessly incorporated. The architecture we propose here, builds on our already deployed GPS-assisted particle filter tracking algorithms and our position-based QoS presence system.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134148046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach does not consider the multi-channel capability in the physical layer. The scalability of the design is limited. This paper discusses how to construct a multi-piconet network and improve the performance of UWB multi-hop WPANs in the existing 802.15.3 standard based on a bridge device (BDEV). BDEV is a member of all interconnected piconets. The coverage extension by BDEVs follows the 802.15.3 standard and it takes benefit from the space reuse. BDEV with only one network interface is cheap and simple to extend a flexible construction of ad hoc networking of WPANs. Furthermore, a distributed scheduling scheme on BDEV is proposed to improve the delay performance. Through detailed simulations, the proposed distributed BDEV scheduling scheme are shown to be effective to extend network coverage.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127359187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is widely used in human organization systems, technical decision-making systems, fault-tolerant systems, mutual exclusion in distributed systems, and replicated databases. The TVS comprises of n units, each of which provides a binary decision (0 or 1), or abstains from voting. The system output is 1 if the cumulative weight of all 1-opting units is at least a pre-specified fraction tau of the cumulative weight of all non-abstaining units. Otherwise, the system output is 0. In this study, an intuitive Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) was first developed to estimate the TVS reliability value. Then a new artificial neural network (called MCS-ANN) and a response surface methodology (called MCS-RSM) with the box-Behnken design (BBD) were created to find the approximated reliability function from the reliability estimated by MCS. The effectiveness of these two approaches were also compared using a benchmark TVS.","PeriodicalId":312921,"journal":{"name":"The 2nd International Conference on Wireless Broadband and Ultra Wideband Communications (AusWireless 2007)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128990711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
