Objetivo: Describir el perfil hormonal, metabolico y hematologico de los pacientes con VIH hospitalizados en una institucion de tercer nivel. Material y metodo: Estudio observacional de corte transversal, donde se incluyeron variables sociodemograficas, clinicas, hormonales, metabolicas y hematologicas de pacientes con VIH entre el 2013 y 2014. Resultados: Se incluyeron 52 pacientes, 34 hombres, con media de edad 39,7 anos (Ds 12,6, Min: 21 Max: 79). 23% habian cursado con tuberculosis, 13% con toxoplasmosis cerebral. 26 pacientes tenian historia de consumo de toxicos: cigarrillo (58%), alcohol (27%) y sustancias alucinogenas (15%). 14% de los pacientes recibian terapia antirretroviral al ingreso, los esquemas contenian principalmente inhibidores de proteasa. Otros medicamentos usados fueron: trimetoprim-sulfametoxazol (27.2%) y antituberculosos (15%). Las principales causas de hospitalizacion fueron toxoplasmosis cerebral (31%) y tuberculosis (15%). 52% de la poblacion presento sindrome de desgaste. El tiempo de diagnostico del VIH fue EnglishIntroduction: Data on the impact of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection on a hormonal, metabolic and haematological level in patients hospitalized in Colombia are scarce. Objective: To describe the hormonal, metabolic and haematological profile of HIV patients hospitalized in a third level institution. Material and method: Cross-sectional observational study, which included sociodemographic, clinical, hormonal, metabolic and hematological variables of patients with HIV between 2013 and 2014. Other mosquitoes can share the same geographic distribution with this mosquito, which justifies that they must be monitored. Objective: It is to know the dynamics of oviposition of A. aegypti , evaluate its gonadotrophic state and determine taxonomically the presence of other culicidae in the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga. Methodology: Oviposition traps (N = 960) were baited with hay infusion (10%) for one year in four locations (Norte, Girón, Piedecuesta and Floridablanca). The ovitraps were kept for five days indoors and outdoors, while larvae were collected in plants such as bromeliads and water reservoirs from each collecting site. In the month of May 2014, were captured with an electric aspirator and traps to catch females of A. aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus to which were estimated their gonadotrophic state. Environmental data such as precipitation and temperature were correlated with the collected eggs and their oviposition indices. Results: 25,254 eggs of A. aegypti were obtained (39.1% Girón, 36.8% Bucaramanga, 15.2% Floridablanca and 8.9% Piedecuesta). In general, oviposition rates were higher outdoors. As for the gonotrophic state, it was detected that females of A. aegypti can have for over two gonadotrophic cycles. In the active catch outdoors were found Culex spp., Culex quinquefasciatus , Limatus durhamii , Toxorhynchites spp and Wyeomyia davisi. {"title":"Effects of neuromuscular taping as an independent or complementary method to physiotherapeutic treatment in the management of cervical pain","authors":"Ximena María Villota-Chicaíza, J. There is, however, no evidence of the effectiveness of neuromuscular taping versus physiotherapy, or of their combined therapy. Objectives: To analyze: the effects of taping compared with those of a physiotherapy program; and the additional benefits that could be obtained if these two therapies were combined in the management of neck pain. Methodology: A total of 60 patients diagnosed with cervical pain were selected and a quasi-experimental pre-post parallel, four-arm simple blind design was utilized: physiotherapy alone; taping alone; physiotherapy plus taping; and taping plus physiotherapy. The effects were estimated, using fixed effects models, for pain at rest, on palpation and in movement. Results: The greatest intra-individual change was found with physiotherapy (β=−1.81; CI95%: −2.69 to −0.93), followed by the physiotherapy plus taping (β=−1.57; CI95%: −2.32 to −0.83), then taping plus physiotherapy (β=−1.29; CI95%: −1.98 to −0.60). Taping alone, however, achieved only a marginally significant reduction (β=−0.50; CI95%: −1.11 to 0.10). Regarding palpation pain, a statistically significant reduction was only observed for physiotherapy (β=−0.84; CI95%: −1.56 to −0.11) and physiotherapy plus taping (β=−0.52; CI95%: −1.09 to 0.04). Finally, for movement pain, a statistically significant reduction for physiotherapy was observed (β=−1.28; CI95%: −2.02 to −0.55) and very similar reductions were observed for physiotherapy plus taping and taping plus physiotherapy. Objective: Molecularly characterize circulating genotypes of Human Papilloma Virus in population of the north of Bucaramanga. Methods: cross-sectional study in women aged from 35 to 65 years with risk ≥3 points for develop cervical cancer determined by a standardized survey. In a cervico-vaginal self-sampling probe a molecular test was performed by HPV Direct Flow CHIP technology. Results: 810 women were interviewed, of these 435 (53.7%) performed self-sampling due to the risk calculated. The median age was 47.3 years (RIQ 41-53 years). Almost the entire population resides in poor conditions (stratum1 and 2) (98.8%) and most of them are from the Colombian subsidized social security system (87.2%). The prevalence was 10.6% (CI 95%: 7.8 - 13.8), for high risk genotypes it was 3.9% (CI 95%: 2.3 - 6.2), low risk of 3.5% (CI 95%: 1.4 - 5.6) and for indeterminate genotype of 1.9%. HPV-59 was the most common high-risk genotype and HPV-62/81 was a low-risk genotype. There was coinfection with high risk/low risk genotypes in five women and coinfection with two low risk genotypes in a woman. Conclusion: The prevalence of infection by Human Papilloma Virus in women living in vulnerable areas of Bucaramanga is lower than that reported in Bogotá and Cali (14.9% and 13%, respectively). No predominance of any particular high-risk genotype was found. Barranquilla es uno de los principales municipios receptores en el norte del pais. En esta ciudad, los asentamientos de zonas marginadas estan siendo habitados por migrantes venezolanos y colombianos de retorno, a menudo en condiciones de alta vulnerabilidad ambiental y social. Objetivo: El presente estudio realiza una exploracion rapida de las necesidades sociales y en salud del asentamiento de Villa Caracas, usando una tecnica semi-cualitativa de listados libres para explorar los dominios culturales asociados a tales necesidades. Presentacion de caso: Villa Caracas, se encuentra en el Suroccidente de Barranquilla y se cree que la ocupan alrededor de unas 100 familias de venezolanos, sumados a los colombianos de retorno y nativos que nunca se re-ubicaron. Sus habitantes se encuentran en condiciones de vulnerabilidad, pero no se conocen cuales son las problematicas mas relevantes. Metodos: Se aplicaron 96 listados libres en habitantes de Villa Caracas, a cada sujeto se les interrogo el sexo, la edad, la ocupacion, la escolaridad y su estado migratorio. Se hicieron tres preguntas para los listados libres sobre: problemas del asentamiento, problemas de salud, y puntos donde reciben atencion en salud. Se calcularon los indices de relevancia de Smith (IRS) para cada dominio. Resultados: En total participaron 96 personas, de los cuales 33 fueron hombres. La edad promedio fue de 31,2 anos (SD: 9,6; Rango: 18-65). Del total de la muestra, un 82,3% fueron venezolanos, 8,3% colombianos de retorno y un 9,4% manifesto tener doble nacionalidad. Todos los venezolanos participantes se encontraban en condicion migratoria irregular. Se encontraron como principales necesidades sociales percibidas las siguientes: alcantarillado (Indice de relevancia de Smith (IRS): 0,38), agua potable (IRS: 0,31) y fluido electrico (IRS: 0,30). Por otro lado, con respecto a los problemas de salud, resaltaron: infeccion respiratoria aguda (IRS: 0,39) y fiebre no especificada (0,20). Todos los habitantes refirieron no ser atendidos por ser venezolanos. Conclusiones: La aproximacion permite destacar las condiciones de vulnerabilidad de los migrantes siendo un punto de partida para un diagnostico mas detallado que permita el desarrollo de planes de respuesta del nivel local. En particular, sobre el saneamiento ambiental como el principal problema del asentamiento que genera un riesgo potencial para la transmision de diversas enfermedades infecciosas. Objetivo: Determinar la actividad insecticida de 12 analogos sinteticos de gingersohnina sobre ninfas del primer estadio de Triatoma dimidiata. Materiales y Metodos: Se tomo como referencia el protocolo de la OMS 2005. Ninfas del primer estadio de T. dimidiata fueron expuestas a los analogos por aplicacion topica y exposicion a superficies para determinar las dosis letales (DL50 y DL95) y verificar alteracion en la locomocion mediante el software Videomex V. Resultados: El analogo 6 presento la mayor actividad insecticida a las 72h con una mortalidad del 20,8% ± 3,57 para el tratamiento de topicacion 25% ± 0,00 para las superficies no porosas. Las dosis letales de la molecula 6 fueron: DL50 1036,8 ± 0,38 ng/insecto y DL95 3991,4 ± 0,50 ng/insecto respectivamente. Con respecto a la locomocion, el analogo indujo un comportamiento similar al insecticida comercial deltametrina. EnglishIntroduction: Analogs of the girgensohnine alkaloid, designed and synthesized to inhibit acetylcholinesterase enzyme, have presented an insecticidal effect on vectors insects of diseases. Objective: To determine the insecticidal activity of 12 synthetic analogs of gingersohnine in first stage nymphs of Triatoma dimidiata. Materials and methods: WHO protocol 2005, using exploratory doses, was used to determine the best molecule according to its mortality. First stage nymphs of T. dimidiata were exposed to different doses of the analogs by topical application and surface exposure. Lethal doses (LD50 and DL95) and alterations in locomotion using Videomex V software were determined. Results: Analog 6 presented the highest insecticidal activity at 72 h with a mortality of 20.8% ± 3.57 for topical treatment and 25%±0,0 for non-porous surfaces evaluation. Analog 6 lethal doses were LD50 1036.8 ± 0.38 ng/insecto and DL95 3991.4 ± 0.508 ng/insecto, respectively. El conocimiento adecuado por parte de los ciudadanos de esta estrategia terapeutica es un proceso clave para garantizar la aceptacion y la buena adherencia al tratamiento. Objetivo: Establecer la percepcion que tienen los estudiantes de pregrado de Quimica Farmaceutica, Tecnologia en Regencia de Farmacia y Medicina de la Universidad de Antioquia, en cuanto al uso de los productos de extractos de cannabis como tratamiento medicinal. Metodo: Estudio observacional de corte transversal, a partir de encuestas a estudiantes a traves de un formulario en linea. Resultados: Se aplicaron 374 encuestas, 232 (62%) estudiantes de pregrado de Quimica Farmaceutica y Tecnologia en Regencia de Farmacia y 142 (38%) de Medicina. De los estudiantes, 222 (59,4%) eran del sexo femenino, con una edad promedio de 22,5 anos, y 348 (94%) viven en estrato socioeconomico bajo y medio. El 60,2% de los estudiantes dicen tener un conocimiento inadecuado sobre la utilizacion de la marihuana medicinal, la utilizacion de cannabinoides medicinales, la reglamentacion y la seguridad. Relacionado con la opinion sobre la utilizacion medicinal, 356 (95,2%) de los encuestados estuvieron de acuerdo. Conclusiones: La mayoria de los estudiantes manifestaron un conocimiento inadecuado sobre la utilizacion de los cannabinoides terapeuticos. Ademas, gran parte de los estudiantes estan de acuerdo con la utilizacion de la marihuana medicinal. EnglishIntroduction: Cannabis sativa (marijuana) contains approximately 60 cannabinoids, of which, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the most studied component to be used for medicinal purposes. Adequate knowledge by citizens of this therapeutic strategy is a key process to guarantee the acceptance and the good adherence to the treatment. Objective: To establish the perception of undergraduate students of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Technology in Regency of pharmacy and medicine of the University of Antioquia, as regards to the use of cannabis extracts products as medicinal treatment. Method: Observational cross-sectional study, based on surveys to students through an online form. Results: 374 surveys were obtained, 232 (62%) from students of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in Regency of Pharmacy, and 142 (38%) from Medicine. 222 (59.4%) of the students that were female, with a mean age of 22.5 years, and 348 (94%) live in low and middle socioeconomic strata. 60.2% of students claim to have inadequate knowledge regarding the use of medical marijuana, the use of medicinal cannabinoids, regulation and safety. Related to the opinion of the medicinal use, 356 (95.2%) respondents agreed. Conclusions: Most of the students expressed inadequate knowledge about the use of therapeutic cannabinoids.
