Its inherent media features align seamlessly with effective means of leader-driven mobilization, facilitating the effortless acquisition of trust, the creation of information silos, the propagation of influential content, and most importantly, a profound impact on college students. This proliferation, however, carries with it latent risks — potential losses in control over educational discourse, risks related to content production, and threats of digital addiction. It also introduces new variables to the ideological and political education of college students. This situation demands that platforms accept their responsibility, that industry norms are observed, and education systems are adaptive and effective. Only then can these variables within mobile short video usage be converted into gains for the ideological and political education of college students.","PeriodicalId":31190,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research and Advances in Mathematics Education","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81965897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed leadership places teachers in different positions based on different times and tasks, and gives them different authority to engage them in the most valuable leadership practice tasks. The federal government encourages teachers across the country to take on formal leadership roles while also retaining their classroom status. This paper explores the practice of leadership using a distributed leadership theoretical framework by exploring two case studies such as H Middle School to gain insight into how leadership is achieved by individuals’ idiosyncrasizes and the context in which they are located.","PeriodicalId":31190,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research and Advances in Mathematics Education","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81799670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to investigate the effect of video subtitles on incidental vocabulary acquisition, a quantitative research was conducted with 90 Chinese university students. The research used an experimental research design in which participants were randomly divided into three groups: a no subtitle group, a Chinese subtitles group and an English subtitles group. Each group watched the same videos and completed pre-test and post-test vocabulary assessments to measure their incidental vocabulary acquisition. The results showed that both subtitled groups significantly increased vocabulary compared to the group without subtitles. In addition, the English subtitle group had the most significant effect, suggesting that English subtitles may be the most effective type for incidental vocabulary learning among Chinese university students. These findings have important implications for foreign language education in China, as they suggest that including video subtitles, especially English subtitles, can effectively enhance incidental vocabulary learning. Furthermore, the research’s use of an experimental research design strengthens the evidence supporting the effectiveness of video subtitling in language learning. Future research could further investigate the factors that influence the effectiveness of different types of subtitles on vocabulary learning, e.g., dual subtitles and keyword subtitles. In addition, exploring the effects of video with subtitles on other language skills (e.g., listening and pronunciation) is also worth considering.","PeriodicalId":31190,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research and Advances in Mathematics Education","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79151092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research critically discusses the main debates regarding the issue of gendered ECEC sector, including the core concepts of childhood, masculinity and ECEC, followed by the debates about the influences of more male practitioners on both children and ECEC workforce. Although there exist some arguments against the hypothesis about men’s benefits on children and ECEC workforce, the need to get men involved in the lives of young children is reflected by government policies across different countries, such as recruitment and retention initiatives for male preschool teachers. However, most of these strategies to remove the barriers male teachers encountered, and to incorporate men and fathers, received negative results. Therefore, by building upon the need to enhance the holistic quality of ECEC workforce, new perspectives, especially from children’s perceptions, on how to change the gender imbalance in ECEC are recommended, including both the top-down policy and bottom-up strategy.","PeriodicalId":31190,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research and Advances in Mathematics Education","volume":"53 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91006997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
