The purpose was to obtain a general version of the duality principle in Gabor analysis. It was shown that the R-duals cover the duality principle for tight Gabor frames and Gabor Riesz bases. In this paper we discuss the relationship between the R-duals and a variant, called R-duals of type III, introduced in 2014. In contrast to the original R-duals, it is known that the R-duals of type III generalize the duality principle for all Gabor frames, but we believe that a smaller and more convenient class will work as well. The purpose of the paper is to give a focussed presentation of the R-duals of type I and III that can trigger the research on this.","PeriodicalId":311830,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications (SampTA)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131160184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our ambition is to develop an algorithm that efficiently increases the resolution of an image without introducing artifacts or blurring, and without using any additional information, such as images of the same scene in different modalities or sub-pixel shifts of the same image at lower resolutions. The approach developed in this article is based on analysis of the directional features present in the image that is to be superesolved. The harmonic analytic technique of shearlets is employed in order to efficiently capture the directional information present in the image, which is then used to provide smooth, accurate images at higher resolutions. Our algorithm is compared to the standard superresolution method of bicubic interpolation. We test our algorithm on a remotely sensed image of Gulfport, Mississippi. Our results indicate the superior performance of shearlet-based superresolution algorithms, compared to bicubic interpolation.","PeriodicalId":311830,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications (SampTA)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126475785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm combines a greedy outer iteration that increases the rank and a smooth Riemannian algorithm that further optimizes the cost function on a fixed-rank manifold. While such a strategy is not especially novel, we show that it can be interpreted as a perturbed gradient descent algorithms or as a simple warm-starting strategy of a projected gradient algorithm on the variety of matrices of bounded rank. In addition, our numerical experiments show that the strategy is very efficient for recovering full rank but highly ill-conditioned matrices that have small numerical rank.","PeriodicalId":311830,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications (SampTA)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134484634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several transmit antennas send random pulses over some time-period and the echo is recorded by several receive antennas. The radar scene is resolved on an azimuth-range-Doppler grid. Sparsity is a natural assumption in this context and we study recovery of the radar scene via l-minimization. On the one hand we provide an estimate for the well-known restricted isometry property (RIP) ensuring stable and robust recovery. Compared to standard estimates available for Gaussian random measurements we require more measurements in order to resolve a scene of certain sparsity. Nevertheless, we show that our RIP estimate is optimal up to possibly logarithmic factors. By turning to a nonuniform analysis for a fixed radar scene, we reveal that the fine-structure of the support set (not only its size) influences the recovery performance. By introducing a parameter measuring the well-behavedness of the support we derive a bound for the number of measurements sufficient for recovery that resembles the minimal one for Gaussian random measurements if this parameter is close to optimal, i.e., if the support set is not pathological. Our analysis complements earlier work due to Friedlander and Strohmer where the support set was assumed to be random.","PeriodicalId":311830,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications (SampTA)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133820080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are systems with a family of generators {g<sub>j, P</sub>}<sub>jεJ, pεPJ</sub> ⊂ L<sup>2</sup>(G), where J is a countable index set, and P<sub>j</sub>, j ε J are certain measure spaces. Furthermore, for each j we let Γ<sub>j</sub>, be a closed subgroup of G such that G/Γ<sub>j</sub> is compact. A GTI system is then the collection of functions U<sub>jεJ</sub>{g<sub>j, p</sub>(· - γ}<sub>γεΓj, pεPj</sub>. Many well known systems, such as wavelet, shearlet and Gabor systems, both the discrete and continuous types, are GTI systems. We characterize when such systems form tight frames, and when two GTI Bessel systems form dual frames for L<sup>2</sup>(G). In particular, this offers a unified approach to the theory of discrete and continuous frames and, e.g., yields well known results for discrete and continuous Gabor and wavelet systems.","PeriodicalId":311830,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications (SampTA)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133606301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the values of the samples are encoded into sampling instants, this is a signal-dependent sampling scheme. By superseding the commonly used multitone model of the input signal with multiband stochastic model, the randomness of the sampling instants is obtained. This allows for the reconstruction of signal using compressive sampling methods without additional randomization hardware. Based on this model, we consider the regime where one has limited observations of a pairwise comparison matrix and wants to reconstruct the whole matrix from these observations using matrix completion. To do this, we adopt a recently developed alternating minimization algorithm to this particular matrix completion problem and derive a theoretical guarantee for its performance. In its current forms, the formula is only applicable to a limited class of signals in L1. However, this assumption on the signals is too strict for many applications in signal processing that require sampling of non-decaying signals. In this paper we generalize the PSF for functions living in weighted Sobolev spaces that do not impose any decay on the functions. The only requirement is that the signal to be sampled and its weak derivatives up to order 1/2+ ε for arbitrarily small ε > 0, grow slower than a polynomial in the L2 sense. The generalized PSF will be interpreted in the language of distributions.","PeriodicalId":311830,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications (SampTA)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131423022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this contribution we review recent results on a class of time-frequency transforms that adapt to a large class of frequency scales in the same sense that wavelet transforms are adapted to a logarithmic scale. In particular, we show that each transform in this class of warped time-frequency representations is a tight continuous frame satisfying orthogonality relations similar to Moyal's formula. Moreover, they satisfy the prerequisites of generalized coorbit theory, giving rise to coorbit spaces and associated discrete representations, i.e. atomic decompositions and Banach frames.","PeriodicalId":311830,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications (SampTA)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114144125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
