The belief in God is no exception, it must pass as well the litmus test of evidence as a measure of its rational justification. But what counts as evidence? Responding to this question and identifying the nature of the evidence that can be used to justify belief has become a point of contention among philosophers. While some evidentialists have denied the possibility of evidence for the belief in God, others have attacked the very basis of the evidentialist claim by promoting belief in God without evidence. The following paper aims at proposing an alternative way or approach to argue and to justify belief in God, that is, intuitive knowledge. To excute this aim, this paper tries at first to describe briefly those two currents of thought and, further, examines and criticizes them by discussing and analyzing the notion of innate concepts and presentational knowledge as known by an intuitive knowledge based on Mullā Ṣadrā ’s view. According to some philosophers, this type of knowledge, presentational knowledge, can be included as “ evidence” even from the evidentialist point of view which does not limit evidence to conceptual knowledge. By this, critical analysis will be applied here as a method to conduct the research. Abstrak : Pendekatan epistemologis paham evidensialisme meyakini bahwa sebuah keyakinan sepatutnya memiliki bukti atau berpijak pada fakta untuk dapat diterima (dibenarkan) secara rasional. Tidak terkecuali keyakinan atau iman kepada Tuhan, harus pula berpijak pada bukti sebagai tolak ukur justifikasi rasionalnya. Akan tetapi apa yang dimaksud dengan bukti/fakta? Menanggapi pertanyaan ini dan menjelaskan hakikat ‘bukti’ yang dapat digunakan untuk membenarkan keyakinan telah menjadi hal yang diperdebatkan di kalangan para filsuf. Sementara sebagian (filsuf) penganut paham evidensialisme telah menolak kemungkinan adanya fakta untuk membuktikan iman kepada Tuhan, sebagian lainnya telah mengkritik basis (landasan argumentasi) klaim penganut paham evidensialisme dengan mengajukan (argumen) iman kepada Tuhan tanpa [harus berlandaskan pada] ‘bukti’. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengajukan suatu jalan atau pendekatan alternatif untuk menjelaskan dan memberi argumen terhadap iman kepada Tuhan, yaitu pengetahuan intuitif. {"title":"Teori Gradasi : Komparasi Antara Ibn Sina, Suhrawardi Dan Mulla Sadra","authors":"Benny Susilo","doi":"10.20871/KPJIPM.V5I2.139","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.20871/KPJIPM.V5I2.139","url":null,"abstract":"Prior to Mullā Ṣadrā, the discussion of the gradation (al-tashkīk) was limited on the category of quality and that of quantity, both are known as the differential gradation (al-tashkīk al- tafāḍulī). In Ibn Sīnā’s point of view, the gradation occurs in the accidental matters (al-tashkīk fī al-‘araḍī) while in Suhrawardi’s, it occurs in the quiddity (al-tashkīk fī al-māhiyyah). Mullā Ṣadrā rejects both views and proves that essentially (bi al-dhāt) the gradation, in the specific sense, occurs in the reality of existence (tashkīk fī ḥaqīqat al-wujūd), while the gradation in the general sense just follows (bi al-ilḥaq) it. Using descriptive-analytical method and comparative approache, this article is aimed to show the meeting points as well as separating ones of the thoughts of the three philosophers concerning gradation; also, to point out that after proving the oneness in the reality of existence and asserting the differential gradation in it, Mullā Ṣadrā proceeds to elaborate two other kinds of gradation: (1) that which is more specific than the differential gradation, i.e., the causal gradation (al-tashkīk al-‘illī), and (2) that which is outside of the differential gradation, i.e., the accidental gradation. Pembahasan gradasi (al-tasykīk) sebelum periode Mullā Shadrā terbatas pada kategori kualitas dan kuantitas, atau dikenal dengan istilah gradasi diferensial (al-tasykīk al- tafādhulī). Dalam pandangan Ibn Sīnā, gradasi terjadi pada hal-hal aksidental (al-tasykīk fī al-‘aradhī); sementara menurut Suhrawardī, gradasi terjadi pada quiditas (al-tasykīk fī al-māhiyyah). Mullā Shadrā menolak kedua pandangan tersebut dan membuktikan bahwa gradasi, dalam makna spesifik, secara esensial (bi al-dzāt) terjadi pada hakikat eksistensi (tasykīk fī ḥaqīqat al-wujūd), sedangkan gradasi dalam makna umum terjadi tidak secara esensial melainkan hanya mengikuti (bi al-ilḥaq). He packed his mystical teachings in the form of poetry and verse, -to be more interactive and expressive- though his teachings are not different with his predecessors, particularly of those who inspired by the principle of mystical union; and Attār is among the Sufis who have managed to reach the highest peak in the mystical journey. According to Attār , there are seven valleys that must be passed by spiritual traveler ( sālik ) in his mystical journey, as mentioned in Manthiq al-Thayr . In this work he use the language of poetry to reveal the process of a servant to God through the stages ( maqāmāt ), and Attār gives the parable maqāmāt is like a bird -burung flying looking for the king. Attār call maqāmāt is the term valleys, of which there are seven valleys. Attār telah banyak memberikan kontribusi pemikirannya dalam khasanah keilmuan Islam esoteris (tasawuf). Ia mengemas ajaran tasawufnya dalam bentuk puisi dan syair, —sehingga tampak lebih menarik— meskipun ajaran-ajaran yang disampaikan kurang lebih sama dengan para sufi pendahulunya, terutama yang menganut paham mystical union ; dan Attār adalah di antara sufi yang telah berhasil mencapai puncak tertinggi dalam perjalanan mistisnya itu. Menurut Attār, ada tujuh lembah yang harus dilalui sālik dalam menempuh perjalanan mistisnya, sebagaimana disebutkan dalam Manthiq al-Thayr . Dalam karyanya ini, Attār menggunakan bahasa puisi dan syair untuk mengungkap proses seorang hamba menuju Tuhan melalui tahapan-tahapan ( Maqāmāt ), dan Attār memberikan perumpamaan maqāmāt tersebut seperti burung-burung yang terbang mencari rajanya. One of the earliest exponent to turn to this problem is Jābir bin Ḥayyān (Geber) (721 - 815 AD), known as the Father of Arabic and – indirectly – Latin Alchemy. Start on describing Jābir’s profile and his significance in Islamic philosophy, this article discusses the classification of knowledge according to him in his book “Kitāb al-Ḥudūd” (Book of Limits), in which he make his own classification of various knowledge. It finally deals with the philosophical basis of the classification and the intellectual perspective of its author. Abstrak : Artikel ini bertujuan untuk melakukan eksplorasi singkat terkait latar epistemologis dalam pengetahuan Islam klasik melalui analisis terhadap konsep klasifikasi ilmu pengetahuan. Salah satu eksponen awal yang berbicara hal tersebut adalah Jābir bin Ḥayyān (Geber) (721 - 815 M), dikenal sebagai Bapak Ilmu Kimia Arab dan – secara tidak langsung – Eropa-Latin. Diawali dengan penjelasan tentang signifikansi Jābir bin Ḥayyān dalam wacana filsafat Islam, artikel ini mendiskusikan klasifikasi ilmu pengetahuan dalam perspektifnya yang terdapat dalam karyanya, “Kitāb al-Ḥudūd” (Buku tentang Batas-Batas), yang membuat klasifikasi versinya sendiri dari berbagai macam ilmu pengetahuan. Departing from the trilemma among the demand of certain forms of reduction of concepts, propositions, and theories in the process of integrating two disciplines of knowledge or more; the Promethean man reductionism problem; and the essentialist framework of Aristotelian logic in Jawadi Amuli’s anthropology, the author explores some extent of possibility and certain forms of application of explanatory reductionism for such transcendent anthropology. By using the method of Ricoeurian hermeneutics that emphasizes distantiation, interpretation, and appropriation, the author conducts a qualitative literary research to arrive at a number of important conclusions as follows. First, Jawadi Amuli has implemented certain forms of an explanatory reductionism in integrating philosophy, 'irfan, and Quranic exegesis in his transcendent anthropology. Second, Mario Bunge’s explanatory reductionism can be applied in the integration of various disciplines of knowledge for constructing transcendent anthropology which is approached through the objective effects of human existence in the material universe. Third, explanatory reductionism principle could be modified into Sadrian psycho-physical reductionism and Sadrian immaterial composition reductionism. Fourth, the use of definitions need to be expanded to include those of loose definitions. Fifthly, the premises used in transcendent anthropology need to be expanded to include zhanni premises. Berangkat dari trilema antara tuntutan reduksi konsep, proposisi, dan teori dalam proses integrasi dua disiplin pengetahuan atau lebih; problem reduksionisme manusia Promethean; dan kerangka logika-esensialisme Aristotelian pada antropologi Jawadi Amuli, penulis menelusuri berbagai posibilitas dan bentuk-bentuk tertentu dari penerapan reduksionisme eksplanatif pada antropologi transendental. Dengan menggunakan metode hermeneutika Paul Ricoeur yang menekankan distansiasi, interpretasi, dan apropriasi, penulis melakukan penelitian kualitatif kepustakaan hingga sampai pada sejumlah kesimpulan penting berikut. Pertama, Jawadi Amuli telah menerapkan bentuk tertentu dari reduksi eksplanatif dalam mengintegrasikan filsafat, ‘irfan, dan tafsir Al-Qur’an dalam antropologi transendentalnya. His view concerning the human soul and its perfection can be applied as the basis of Islamic principles of psychology. Under the investigation on his philosophical writtings as well as his Quranic interpretation, such as Tafsīr al-Qur’ān, we are invited to understand human nature and its perfection. This article shows Ṣadra’s view about the value of knowledge as the basis of the achievement of happiness in human being. This paper also intended to show that knowledge about the reality of the human soul has a major influence on moral action of an individual. Mullā Shadrā merupakan salah satu filsuf yang memberikan perhatian yang besar pada kajian tentang manusia. Beberapa pandangannya tentang jiwa manusia dan kesempurnaannya bisa dijadikan sebagai basis prinsip-prinsip psikologi Islam. Melalui penelusuran terhadap beberapa karya filsafatnya termasuk juga kitab tafsirnya seperti Tafsīr al-Qur’ān al-Karīm, kita diajak untuk memahami hakikat manusia dan kesempurnaannya.Tulisan ini menunjukkan pandangan Shadrā tentang nilai pengetahuan sebagai basis capaian kesempurnaan jiwa dan puncak kebahagiaan manusia. Tulisan ini juga ditujukan untuk menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan tentang realitas jiwa manusia memiliki pengaruh besar terhadap tindakan moral seorang individu. The paradigm, so far, brings knowledge and science into mere instrumental goals. Scientism is the result of the paradigm which lost of its sacred as science. Therefore, it gets philosophical attack from both Western postmodern thinkers and indigenous scholars who already experienced Western colonialism and imperialism. One of the Moslem scholars who criticized the hegemony of Western thought to Islamic culture and civilization is Muhammad Iqbal. For Iqbal, for centuries, Muslim thinkers were unable to see Islam from Quran point of view because they perceive it from the eye of rational-speculative Greek philosophy. Islamic thinking had been under its hegemony for so long that need to be deconstructed. In the postcolonial perspective, Iqbal’s attempt to decolonize Western rational-speculative epistemology from Plato to Descartes found him in ambivalence. British colonialism experienced by Iqbal in India formed the hybrid culture in his project of reconstructing Islamic thought in relation to Western thought. Therefore, Iqbal’s attempt to bridge the gap between rational-speculative of Western thought and mystic- religious tendencies of Islamic thought is a process of seeking “the Third Space” through mimicry as consequence of cultural interaction between the colonizer and the colonized. Kata-kata Kunci : decolonization of epistemology, hybrid culture, Islamic epistemology, the Third Space. Abstrak : Hegemoni paradigma epistemologi Barat modern yang rasional positivistik berkontribusi besar terhadap perkembangan pemikiran modern. Paradigma tersebut sejauh ini, menggiring pengetahuan dan sains pada tujuan-tujuan yang bersifat instrumental. Saintisisme merupakan hasil dari paradigma positivistik tersebut yang kehilangan kesakralannya sebagai ilmu. Oleh karena itu paradigma ini mendapatkan serangan filosofis tidak hanya dari pemikir Barat pascamodernisme namun juga dari pemikir pribumi yang pernah mengalami penjajahan dan imperialisme Barat. Salah satu pemikir Muslim yang mengritik hegemoni pemikiran Barat terhadap kebudayaan dan peradaban Islam adalah Muhammad Iqbal. Bagi Iqbal, selama beberapa abad lamanya pemikir Muslim tidak mampu berfikir secara Qurani akibat cara pandang mereka yang melihat Islam dari kacamata filsafat Yunani yang cenderung hanya bersifat rasional-spekulatif. Pemikiran Yunani telah menghegemoni pemikiran Islam begitu lama sehingga perlu didekonstruksi. Dalam perspektif pasca kolonial (postcolonial), usaha Iqbal untuk mendekolonisasi epistemologi rasional-spekulatif Barat sejak Plato hingga Descartes, menghadapi sikap yang ambivalen.
