The first model takes advantage of the current bidirectionality of the Digital Terrestrial Television system and uses the existing interactivity of the system to generate alerts in case of emergency. The second model proposes developing an interactivity channel based on TV White Spaces destined only for alert signals transmission. In both cases, the transmitted information frame contains a specific identifier depending on the type of alert and the exact geographical location where it was tried. The identifier is created based on the existing administrative distribution in the Secretaría Nacional de Gestión de Riesgos y Emergencias (SNGRE) and in the ISDB-T standard. This proposal arises as an alternative to the acceleration of the analog shutdown and as a projection to take advantage of the use of DTT infrastructure. The proposed models allows a decentralized and immediate administration depending on the type of alert generated, improving the response by the agencies in charge of taking care of security. Both models are evaluated in function of theoretical advantages and disadvantage.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132259192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must therefore offer a reliable and cost-effective connectivity solution. VPNs are commonly based on static bandwidth allocation over MPLS tunnels, which cause over-provisioning and under-utilization of network resources. Software Defined Networking (SDN) appears as a solution to provide agile enterprise networking while reducing operators cost. This paper presents the design and implementation of a Hybrid SDN-based network application to provide dynamic services. Such an architecture enables combining centralized and distributed control with traditional VPN protocols to provision services through network slices. The application performs a flexible policy-based routing, selecting the access technology according to the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and the network conditions. The simulations executed over an VIRL emulated environment by Cisco show that the proposed network control enables the services to be efficiently provisioned without the need of over-provisioning the resources. Furthermore, a customized network slicing over legacy equipment guarantees the service requirements.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"29 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131892843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The power delay profiles obtained from field measurements in the 700 MHz band, were subjected to two filtering techniques: the CFAR (Constant False Alarm Rate) filtering technique and the proposed technique using artificial neural networks. The neural technique demonstrated to be a good alternative with 91.38% of average accuracy and more satisfactory filtering than the CFAR for the identification of valid multipaths. The results show the characteristic of the ANN technique in identifying a greater number of multipaths. The results of the temporal dispersion parameters Mean Excess Delay and RMS Delay Spread achieved by the new technique presented satisfactory values when compared with the CFAR and with the values described in the ITU-R (International Union of Telecommunications) standard P.1411-9.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125985070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evolution of Internet-based services needs to be agile and efficient nowadays. SDNs promise to bring the previous to next-generation networks, in order to cope with the demand of millions of interconnected devices, with an ever-growing demand of bandwidth for such services. From 5G wireless networks, WiFi6 and new Internet Service Provider (ISPs) backbones, the need for a flexible and fast way to create and test new protocols and applications, push the development of SDNs and its new way of thinking about networks. Like any new technology, SDN protocols and new applications need better test-beds that are close to real environments as possible so they can be tested thoroughly enough to be deployed in production environments. Various tools have been developed over the last years aiming to do the previous, but have lacked some distinct features, limiting the scenarios and results. Our experience and approach of using containers (Dockers) and being able to provide a tool that meets current and future needs, is our biggest contribution to the community. DockSDN is presented on this work, which proposed various benefits and advantages over other tools and provides fast deployment of SDNs scenarios and that is fully scalable through local hardware available or elastic through cloud services. The scientific community will be able to test current or new SDN protocols in environments that are close to real-world as you can get.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115062122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The offload of parts of a VNF into programmable data planes presents an alternative to mitigate this loss of performance. However, currently offload is only used locally on SmartNICs or in parts of an entire SFC, in a way that there are no platforms capable of offloading parts of a single VNF into programmable devices. In this paper we propose an architecture capable of managing the offload of elements of a VNF into programmable network devices. The architecture is composed of a VNF Platform with offload support, and a offload manager which communicates with the underlying infrastructure in order to allow the process. A prototype of the architecture was developed and evaluated, with results showing performance gains even in a completely virtualized test scenario, demonstrating the benefits provided by a offload platform.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124703929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Herein, one secondary user (SU) among a preselected pair of SUs provides relay assistance to realize communications between two primary users (PUs). In exchange for this cooperation, SUs can harvest energy from the radio-frequency (RF) signals of the PUs and enable their communications in the same license band. With the considered set-up, three phases are required to perform two-way end-to-end communications between the PUs and one-way communication between SUs. For making use of RF energy harvesting, a power splitting based receiver architecture is considered at the relaying SU. Moreover, the relaying SU follows an amplify-and-forward approach to broadcast the combined signals of PUs and SU. For performance analysis, we derive accurate expressions of the outage probability (OP) for the secondary system under Nakagami- $m$ fading by adopting a nonlinear energy harvester at the relaying SU. Further, we formulate achievable throughput of the secondary system. To validate the derived analytical framework and show the impact of different system parameters, analytical and simulation results are provided.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124275785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design and performance of the following transceivers architectures are taken into account: (1) downlink single-user multiple-input multiple-output with transmit beamforming (DL SU-MIMO TxBF); (2) DL SU-MIMO with spatial spreading (SS); (3) downlink multiuser MIMO (DL MU-MIMO); (4) uplink multi-user MIMO (UL MU-MIMO). The implementation of CC-HARQ protocol allows power gains between 3 to 5 dB over channels without Doppler spread. On the other hand, the performance of DL MU-MIMO transceivers has greater sensibility with Doppler spread and CSI feedback delay in relation to DL SU-MIMO TxBF transceivers. UL MU-MIMO transceivers have the greatest performance gains due to the implementation of CC-HARQ protocol and present no performance loss due to Doppler spread since the stations do not implement any precoding on the transmitted waveforms in the study cases analyzed in this industry-oriented research paper.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129268935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
