Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) (in particular Deep Learning - DL) can be leveraged as key enabling technologies for cyber-defense, since they can contribute in threat detection and can even provide recommended actions to cyber analysts. A partnership of industry, academia, and government on a global scale is necessary in order to advance the adoption of AI/ML to cybersecurity and create efficient cyber defense systems. In this paper, we are concerned with the investigation of the various deep learning techniques employed for network intrusion detection and we introduce a DL framework for cybersecurity applications.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124674628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to apply MRA, the Wavelets of Daubechies and Symlet are used. The effectiveness of this technique depends on the choice of the Wavelet, the decomposition levels of the signal to be analyzed and the threshold level used to eliminate the noise of the detail part. Finally, there is a significant noise reduction in the analyzed signal. To measure this reduction, we use the Mean Square Error (RMS).","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129239429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, in the secondary network, a secondary source sends its confidential information to a secondary destination in the presence of a passive eavesdropper, under the constraint imposed by the primary receiver in the primary network. Specifically, we derive the exact expressions of intercept probability and ergodic secrecy capacity (ESC) for the considered system under $alpha-mu$ fading channels. To extract more valuable insights, we also present the asymptotic analysis of intercept probability, which reveals that the system secrecy diversity order only depends on the fading parameters of the secondary source-secondary destination link, not on the fading parameters associated with the secondary source-secondary eavesdropper link and secondary source-primary receiver link. We also present some key observations for ESC when secondary source power with interference constraint is very large. The numerical and simulation results corroborate the validity of our analytical framework, and show the effects of channel parameters on the system secrecy performance.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130120629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Those clients could be hand-sets, sensors, or devices working in the Internet of Things (IoT) communication environment. Recently in 5G communication networks, multi-hop uplinks and device-to-device (D2D) communications are of major research interest due to its nature of massive data exchange and delivery delay intolerance,. In D2D, data loads are uploaded towards the Base Station of the Cellular Network gNodeB (gNB) using different algorithms with different (and considerable amount of) computations' complexity. The complexity of these computations are a heavy burden over the limited capabilities of the backhaul and small User Equipment's (UEs), sensors, etc. Reducing the computation complexity of these algorithms will directly enhance the network performance and its energy efficiency overall. This work attempted to use Game theory techniques (mainly, graph-coalition-formation game) where it obtained enhanced results in 5G-standards D2D uplinks environment, this is due to employing relatively lower complexity approach to this problem. Reduction of computation complexity is introduced here through applying a preparatory stage of validating the active links of coalition members first via a proposed approach of finding all the possible links between them first, then, omitting the non-candidate members of the computations steps. Thus, applying graph coalition formation game calculations - as merge and split algorithm - consequently reduced the order of calculations' complexity. Results obtained outperforms the system performance in the network behavior, uploading time, and energy efficiency in comparison with previously published work.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114859845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, deep learning-based methods provide a promising way to address this research issue. In this paper, we focus on exploring the optimal performance of the convolutional neural network (CNN) by making use of the grid-like topology of the channel information. Extensive comparative experiments have been conducted to compare the advantages of different deep learning methods in allocating power resources. It is shown that, under a similar training setting, on average the optimal value of objective function of CNN is about a quarter better than feedforward neural network (FNN). For several different optimization models, CNN acquired this desirable performance with only about 1 millisecond ultra computational time.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123643134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the adoption of larger antenna arrays (up to the hundreds, in massive MIMO systems) and millimeter waves, measurement campaigns require expensive equipment to be performed. An alternative approach is to use ray-tracing techniques to accurately obtain MIMO channel responses. For time-varying scenarios, the simulation can be very computationally expensive. An alternative method is to obtain SISO channel responses, and then use the geometric channel model to generate the full MIMO channel for uniform linear or planar antenna arrays. This works analyses the impact of this approximation in the estimated channel capacity and NMSE (normalized mean square error).","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124490878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A reduction of the distortions added to the video sequence by the video coding and through the channel can be achieved by selecting appropriate configuration parameters for both codecs. In this paper we address this problem from a bit-allocation perspective under the joint source-channel coding approach. We propose an evaluation methodology with a new metric that allows the measurement of the overall distortion of a video communication system. Experimental results, for a system conformed by High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and a channel coding with variable coding rate, demonstrate the procedure to evaluate the video communication system and to find a suitable parameter set to reduce the overall distortion of the video at the receiver. For the evaluated system, it was also found a bit allocation strategy between the video and channel codec that reduces the overall distortion. It gives less protection against errors from the channel while reduces the distortion introduced by the video encoder.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126644807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this scenario, PON customers may own single or multiple Optical Network Units (ONUs). Moreover, some ONUs belonging to a customer can be underutilized, while others suffer bandwidth starvation. An excess distribution policy allows the redistribution of unused bandwidth, which is vital for the efficient usage of bandwidth in such unbalanced scenario. This paper presents a performance evaluation of the Interleaved Polling with Adaptive Cycle Time with multi-ONU SLAs support (MOS-IPACT) algorithm combined with different bandwidth distribution policies considering traditional and multi-ONU customers. Simulation results shows that the MOS-IPACT algorithm efficiently distributes the excess bandwidth among the ONUs of multi-ONU customers. Moreover, results show that MOS-IPACT does not compromise the overall available bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121437899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present a novel multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission scheme called multidimensional media-based modulation (M-MBM) by redesigning the classical Alamouti's space-time block coding (STBC) scheme with MBM through the use of the additional dimension of channel states. The error performance of the proposed M-MBM scheme is theoretically analyzed for correlated and uncorrelated channel states and a union bound is obtained for the average bit error probability (ABEP). Moreover, through computer simulations, the superior error performance of the M-MBM scheme over the emerging IM techniques is demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127568341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
