Therefore, this work seeks to optimize the methodology of resource allocation in Edge Computing, seeking to improve the quality of service (QoS) to the user. For this, it was developed an algorithm for efficient resource allocation using grey wolves optimization technique, named as Resource Allocation Technique for Edge Computing (RATEC). The algorithm adopted the meta-heuristic technique to choose the best Edge when allocating the resources of user equipment (UE). In this work, it was considered that the UEs are composed of processing, storage, time and memory resources. The algorithm uses these resources to calculate the fitness of each Edge and decide which one to allocate, if available. The RATEC has been compared with two other policies and has managed to serve a number most significant of UEs, reducing the number of services refused and presenting a low number of blockages while searching for an Edge.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"31 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123443617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The above, with the purpose of determining the network performance, as both the order of the M-QAM modulation and the distance of the optical link are increased, considering that the performance of a radio over optical fiber system can be significantly degraded by nonlinear phenomena present in the optical link, as well as noise and distortion phenomena that affect the signal quality. In the results of the research, the increase in the order of the M-QAM modulation allows us to represent more bits per symbol, however, a higher transmission power is required. Finally, it is considered that it is possible to develop a robust OFDM-RoF converged network infrastructure for speeds in the order of 10 Gbps for the last mile services, since it uses the advantages of both wireless and optical technologies.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130547222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, users should be aware of the security risks associated with wireless technologies such as Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) which rely on nodes forwarding each other's packets. Then, without any security measures in place, any node is capable of compromising integrity of the data it forwards. In this paper, we integrated Hamming code into Compressive Sensing-Data Compression (CS-DC) scheme to detect and drop any malicious data quickly for protecting data integrity in VANETs and also, reducing the cost of communication overhead and avoiding Road Side Unit (RSU) deception. The performance of the proposed scheme shows the capability of protecting data integrity and the improvement of data transmission criteria and reduction of communication overhead in the presence of malicious nodes in VANETs.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114638936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the mmWave band will experience much more propagation loss than a low-frequency band. Conventional precoding techniques are impractical at mmWave scenarios due to manufacturing costs and power consumption. Hybrid beamforming, which combines large dimensional analog processing with lower-dimensional digital processing, is the most promising approach for reducing the hardware cost in massive mmWave MU-MIMO systems. The digital processing part can be designed from traditional MIMO methods, however, the analog processing part has to be carefully selected to produce a workable equivalent baseband channel. In this paper, we propose three hybrid processing designs based on MMSE, whose difference relies on their analog part. The considered strategies for designing the analog part are through singular value decomposition, an iterative method, and a recursive algorithm, where the last one highlights due to its robustness. Numerical results in terms of BER evidence that the proposed recursive algorithm reaches the best performance regardless of the scenarios and data detectors.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133606335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As processing is done with voltages, TIAs convert the current from the optical source into a voltage. In this paper, we propose a low-cost receiver for long-range visible light communications. The receiver is composed of a wide bandwidth TIA using an off the shelf operational amplifier (op-amp). The design process focuses on the calculations for feedback resistance and capacitance, and other op-amp stabilization techniques for the receiver. We test the proposed receiver along with the TIA using the National Instruments simulator tool Multisim to determine the optimum operational bandwidth. The proposed VLC system is developed and experimented on a testbed composed of the transmitter circuitry, designed receiver, and National Instrument's USB-6351 data acquisition board for analog-to-digital (ADC) and digital-to-analog (DAC) conversion operations. Random data bit stream at a bit rate of $50 kb/s$ is transmitted using on-off keying (OOK) modulation scheme. We study the bit-error rate (BER) performance for different transmitter and receiver distances up to 860 cm. The experimental results reveal that for a distance of 380 cm a BER of $9.76times 10^{-5}$ is achieved.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121695367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first wave was the ubiquitous mobile connectivity which gave way to the widespread adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm and its later incarnation: The Internet of Everything (IoE) wherein almost every device is endowed with network communication capabilities. However, from a singular device's resource standpoint, many of these devices may not be able to fulfill the requirements of applications that run on them. An effective way to achieve substantial computing capability is to offload the computation to devices over the network. In this work, we explore mechanisms to optimize offloading decisions while minimizing transmission power. Our simulations show that substantial gains can be achieved from this offloading mechanism.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124954975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It leverages the computational power of edge devices (i.e., mobile devices) to train machine learning models with distributed data sets on edge devices without uploading data sets to the cloud. The straightforward benefit is avoiding data security concerns. However, federated learning also encounters challenges, like stragglers (end-devices that respond slowly) among devices due to heterogeneity of devices. Most of the existing body of research tries to address the problem through training objects replication and information coding design such as maximum distance separable (MDS) code. In this paper, we propose a decentralized redundant n-Cayley tree (DRC-tree) for federated learning. Our proposal aims to explore the hierarchical structure of the n-Cayley tree to enhance the redundancy rate in federated learning to mitigate the impact of stragglers. In the DRC- tree structure, the fusion node serves as the root node, while all the worker devices are the intermediate tree nodes and leaves that formulated through a distributed message passing interface. the redundancy of workers is constructed layer by layer with a given redundancy branch degree. The optimality of the proposed architecture is theoretically analyzed and simulated experiments are also conducted through CloudLab with synchronous stochastic gradient descent (SGD) implementation. The experimental results show that the proposed DRC-tree architecture reduces the errors caused by stragglers compared with the state of arts.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114779911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we propose a double-stage solution to mitigate the PH. In the first stage, we use Neyman-Pearson binary hypothesis testing to develop a low-cost PH detection algorithm, in which a likelihood ratio test is designed, and the optimal detection threshold is analytically calculated. The proposed PH detection scheme entails small real-time computations while using the existing pilot symbols in the system. Hence, no extra pilot overhead is required. In the second stage, the maximum likelihood (ML) estimation is used to develop a PH correction scheme. In particular, the phase noise and the PH are jointly mitigated by solving an ML estimation problem. By applying the proposed correction scheme, the number of remaining erroneous symbols due to PH (if any) is within the error correction capability of modern forward error-correcting codes. Numerical results verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in detecting and correcting the PH.","PeriodicalId":309189,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications (LATINCOM)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121342315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We perform link-level simulations with complete transmitter and receiver signal processing chains to evaluate the performance of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and single-carrier quadrature amplitude modulation (SC-QAM) in millimeter wave channels using QuaDRiGa tool for the channel generation. Results from Urban-macro line-of-sight (UMa LOS) channels and the impact of phase noise and faulty elements in 2D antenna-array transmitters are evaluated.
