LIDAR data have high potential of automation; though they have such disadvantages as low resolution and no texture. On the other hand, generally, a resolution of the aerial images is higher than that of LIDAR data. The extraction of buildings from aerial images in dense urban environment is easier from aerial images than from LIDAR data. However, the fully automated 3D modeling of buildings from aerial images in dense urban environment is not successful. The objective of this research is to develop a methodology to automatically generate 3D modeling of buildings. The generation of 3D buildings data is done by integrating high resolution air-borne linear CCD, low resolution DSMs (created from LIDAR) and existing 2D digital maps. The detail representation of roof shapes such as gables is created by using the knowledge of buildings.","PeriodicalId":308988,"journal":{"name":"2003 2nd GRSS/ISPRS Joint Workshop on Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133588912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to deal with the high complexity of this type of scenes, we integrate detailed knowledge about roads and their context using explicitly formulated scale-dependent models. The knowledge about how and when certain parts of the road and context model are optimally exploited is condensed in the extraction strategy. Special focus is on the extension of our previous road extraction system to full multi-image capability. To exploit information from multiple views, a fusion strategy for road objects (e.g. lanes) has been developed. It is based on internally computed quality measures and embedded in the system's concept of self-diagnostic extraction algorithms. The analysis of the final results show benefits but also remaining deficiencies of this approach.","PeriodicalId":308988,"journal":{"name":"2003 2nd GRSS/ISPRS Joint Workshop on Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133104777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To monitor and solve traffic problems on the long ranges, the intelligent transportation systems, ITS, are emerged simultaneously. The important and prevalent one of sub systems of ITS is the road monitoring by remote sensing techniques from both airborne and spaceborne sensors because image by remote sensor distributes a top-view and wide-area observation compared with other side-view sensor installed along the road such as video camera etc. and thus by remote sensor, nowadays, high-resolution images are available and distribute their merit for traffic problems in a variety of cases including the illegal parking. Especially, image from airborne sensor is the way to resolve without a problem of cloud-covered images with good weather and good visible time selected for image taking. Recently, three line scanner or TLS, novel airborne sensor, has emerged. Three line scanner imaging systems consisting of three-parallel one-dimensional CCD cameras mounted on the imaging plane with a stabilizer for shaking reduction during imaging flight. It obtains seamless high-resolution images (5-10 cm on the ground) with three viewing directions (forward, nadir, backward direction) simultaneously accurately with RTK-GPS and INS. With centimeter-order ground resolution and seamless imaging capability along the road, TLS image is very suitable to analyze traffic problems in the urban area of the mega city. Therefore the TLS application of the vehicle detection on the street in Mega City, here Tokyo has been developed under the advantage of three line scanner image and thus the framework of this research that, has been created, consists of three processing stages mainly: pre-processing, vehicle detect","PeriodicalId":308988,"journal":{"name":"2003 2nd GRSS/ISPRS Joint Workshop on Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114803805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method can be described as a multi data sources method for the validation of old image classification in order to measure the scattered urbanisation process as it uses three kinds of data: satellite images, GI vectorial covers, and digitised paper maps. The hypothesis is that the satellite image allows to map the exact borders of homogeneous patches, while small scale vector GI cover provides the exact content. That is why satellite images are used to increase the precision of the GI cover. However, the content of homogeneous patches detected on the images is not totally unknown, as absolute radiometric values and visual texture analysis on coloured band combination gives some information.","PeriodicalId":308988,"journal":{"name":"2003 2nd GRSS/ISPRS Joint Workshop on Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132913228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two landscape metrics and a patch size metric. These metrics were chosen as they characterize both the size and distribution of the patches of land use. Land use was classified into vegetative and nonvegetative patches using the normalized difference vegetative index (NDVI). {"title":"Automatic car detection in high resolution urban scenes based on an adaptive 3D-model","authors":"Christian Schlosser, Josef Reitberger, Stefan Him","doi":"10.1109/DFUA.2003.1219980","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/DFUA.2003.1219980","url":null,"abstract":"This article introduces a new approach to automatic car detection in monocular high resolution aerial images. The extraction is based on a 3D-model that describes the prominent geometric features of cars by a wireframe representation. Furthermore, vehicle color, windshield color, and intensity of a car's shadow area are included as radiometric features. During extraction, the model automatically adapts the expected saliency of these features depending on vehicle color measured from the image and the actual illumination direction given a priori. Car extraction is carried out by matching the model \"top-down\" to the image and evaluating the support found in the image. In contrast to most of the related work, our approach neither relies on external information like digital maps or site models, nor it is limited to one single vehicle model. Various examples illustrate the applicability of this approach. However, they also show the deficiencies which clearly define the next steps of our future work.","PeriodicalId":308988,"journal":{"name":"2003 2nd GRSS/ISPRS Joint Workshop on Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128059510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
