In the 1980s, Borges directed the editorial collection of the Biblioteca Hyspamerica in Argentina, where he included three works by Italian authors: Dino Buzzati’s Il deserto dei Tartari, Giovanni Papini’s short stories and Saggio su l’«Orlando Furioso» by Attilio Momigliano. The analysis centers on the work of an intellectual who enabled the modern reader to rediscover classic as well as forgotten works. The aim of the essay is to shed light on Borges’ role as a letterato editore and as a prologuista. {"title":"Entre Cervantes y Borges: Góngora y Darío, renovadores del lenguaje poético","authors":"Laura Repovš","doi":"10.4312/VH.25.1.269-284","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4312/VH.25.1.269-284","url":null,"abstract":"Between Cervantes and Borges – important narrators but also poets – two profound renewals of Spanish poetic language took place: one by Luis de Gongora and the other by Ruben Dario. The first one occurred in the Iberian Peninsula and the other in America. Both represent, along with Garcilaso’s revolution in the Renaissance, the most significant transformations of the Spanish poetic language. Our intention is to show, discussing one poem by Gongora and one by Dario, the essential contribution of these authors to the evolution of poetic expression in the Castilian language, as well as to emphasize the need to consider Hispanic poetry written on both sides of the Atlantic as a vast unity of meaning. We conclude that the poetic work of both poets has decidedly marked poetic sensibilities in Spanish and has had a great influence on in the Spanish speaking world on both sides of the Atlantic. Solana","doi":"10.4312/VH.25.1.117-132","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4312/VH.25.1.117-132","url":null,"abstract":"The aim of this paper is to examine, from a strictly linguistic perspective, a phenomenon that has been gaining ground in recent years, especially in the field of politics and social activism: the use in Spanish of feminine forms with an extensive value (referring to beings of both sexes) as a strategy to make women more visible, and as a stylistic alternative to the simultaneous use of both the masculine and feminine form. After comparing the underlying assumptions of the feminists’ position with some linguistic principles, we analyze the conditions under which the generic interpretations of feminine forms take place in ordinary language. We then present the problems that the generalization of the phenomenon can give rise to: limitation of «displacement» capacity (Hockett, 1960), poor processing effort / cognitive effect ratio, and difficulty in accomplishing the communicative function of language. This brings us to the point that the generic feminine is most unlikely to become established in general uses of Spanish; it also seem not to be feasible to achieve a free alternation of masculine and feminine forms as a means of expressing gender neutralization. The article examines the presence and the selection of Spanish and Hispanic American literature in Slovene secondary schools between 1945 and 2017, taking into account sociopolitical, cultural and didactic factors. The analysis is based on all syllabuses for Slovene during this period and all text books for literature used and edited since the end of the second world war in Slovenia. Therefore the role of literature written in Spanish is analysed for two different sociopolitical contexts: Yugoslavia and the independent Republic of Slovenia. The aim of the article is to find out whether the presence and the role of Spanish language literature in Spanish has increased or decreased during this period and which are the authors and literary works which 19-year-old Slovenes who complete grammar school and continue their studies at the university are/were acquainted with. Contribucion a la lexicalizacion de la deixis social propone ya desde el titulo un enfoque diacronico que engloba varios puntos de vista: el morfosintactico, el semantico-lexico y el pragmatico-discursivo. La obra se inscribe asi dentro del creciente interes en la linguistica actual de unir, si no conciliar, el enfoque historico con el enfoque discursivo como dos ejes imprescindibles para estudiar la lengua en su complejidad. Segun nuestra opinion, alli estriba uno de los mayores meritos de este libro, puesto que supone la union de las dimensiones explicativo-discursiva, que muestra como los factores pragmatico-discursivos motivan y originan determinados cambios linguisticos, con la dimension historica, por medio de la cual se aclaran el origen y el cambio de los fenomenos discursivos contemporaneos. Estamos pues en el ambito del enfoque frecuentemente denominado Pragmatica Historica (Andreas Jucker 1995) o Analisis Historico del Discurso en palabras de Laurel J.
