We seek to understand, on the one hand, how the writer conceives an intratextual conection between his own narrative work and “La historia interminable” and, on the other hand, how he establishes an intertextual dialogue with Borges’ La biblioteca de Babel. La historia interminable maintains a thematic continuity with Liscano’s entire narrative production with the leitmotiv of how to match life with writing and does so in two ways. First it creates a series of characters who in turn multiply infinitely, which can be read as reflecting a human need to create a potentially infinite literary corpus as means of attaining “immortality through writing”. Second, the short story offers a reflection on the human obsession with absolute knowledge and the desire to know everything and to narrate everything and indeed seems to present a critical re-elaboration of this obsession; in the story, the identity of the writer dissipates after his death, precisely because nobody can cover all his work. Writing, in this case, becomes merely a “store of experiences” that no one can use.","PeriodicalId":30803,"journal":{"name":"Verba Hispanica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46103244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most controversial problems of this debate is whether a finite clause, can be a part of this repertory of elements that can function as a predicative expression. The aim of this article is to assess the contrasting views on predicative sentence structures and to illustrate the different theories with examples of diverse types of dependent clauses. The study focuses on sentences introduced by ser, estar and parecer, verbs commonly accepted as copulative verbs par excellence that usually allow the pronominalisation of the predicative. Apart from the main groups of dependent clauses, the article also analyses two types of syntactic emphasis: cleft sentences and oraciones ecuandicionales.","PeriodicalId":30803,"journal":{"name":"Verba Hispanica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49139861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We seek to define the disappearance of the subject engendered by the writing process itself with reference to individual poems by Pizarnik. As a result of the continual disappearance of the subject and of the inadequacy of language, the act of writing can be understood as an unrepeatable experiment as well as a reflection of a failed attempt by the poet to merge the corporeal and the word as well as life and poetry as a post-death experience, since the subject alienates its own corporeality by writing as if deceased. This conceit has the effect of enabling poem to be seen as an eternal invocation of the absent.","PeriodicalId":30803,"journal":{"name":"Verba Hispanica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41619058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Contemporaries and both residents of Gorizia who moved in different cultural and national circles, they nevertheless had a common interest: Cervantes’s Quijote. The oldest edition of Don Quixote in Castilian currently present in Slovenia is located in the library of France Bevk in Nova Gorica and dates from 1671. The library acquired it in 1955 and recently we have know that the book was a part of the Silverio de Baguer museum in Dobrovo (Dobra). It is after this event in particular that many Spaniards imitate Italian speech, introducing many Italianisms, both lexical and morpho-syntactic. It may be assumed that the high prestige of Italian at that time also contributed to the adoption of Italian polite linguistic customs in Spanish, among which we find forms of address. The aim of the present paper is to analyse the interference of Italian in Renaissance and Golden Spanish in forms of address. Using the Corpus Diacronico del Espanol (CORDE) we have sought to identify those formulas which shows either the direct or indirect influence of Italian.","PeriodicalId":30803,"journal":{"name":"Verba Hispanica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44172959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cognitive grammar-based instruction draws on the pedagogical approach developed by Ruiz Campillo (1998), Radden Dirven (2007), Castaneda and Chamorro (2014) and Montero (2014a). From this approach, article selection can be managed using a minimum of operational values that are prototypical in nature, and that in turn may allow learners to produce an unlimited number of utterances. In terms of the methodology selected the processing instruction in VanPatten (1996, 2002, 2004, 2007) has been chosen, and an instructional model is proposed with both interpretative activities (focused on structured input) and productive activities (focused on structured output) based on Alonso Raya et al. In the representation of these tensions the concept of the nation has often played a relevant role while also undergoing continual periods of crisis. Labelled by some as “The End of History”, the postmodern condition (Lyotard) is for many nothing but a signal of a post-historical, post-ideological, post-colonial and post-metaphysical era, a sign of loss, a symptom of a new political order that Habermas and Hardt-Negri have termed, respectively, “postnational constellation” and “empire”. It constitutes an unprecedented global version of sovereignty and domination that differs from modernity’s colonial imperialism in lacking a localized centre or clearly defined territorial boundaries. In this (inter/post)national scenario literature has recovered much of the freedom that it had been deprived of by nationalist tendencies in the past.","PeriodicalId":30803,"journal":{"name":"Verba Hispanica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70588986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Episodes and Symbols. This text, intense and poetic, tells the story of the meeting between the author and the great Rabbi and Sephardic playwright of Bulgarian origin Sabetay Djaen which took place in Madrid during the period of the Second Republic. The work discusses not only the meeting between the two writers but also the process of reconciliation between the Spanish and the descendants of the Spanish Jews, expelled in 1492, from different, though partially convergent, cultural spaces and experiences. Here the Castillian Spanish space, represented by the writer Cansinos Assens, whose Jewish origin is acknowledged, and the Bosnian space, represented by the work of the playwright Sabetay Djaen, whose literary development tool place partly in Bosnia, come together. Some characteristics of Cansino’s Jewish works are highlighted in the story and the dramatic work of Sabetay Djaen is also presented through the critical readings of his work by some contemporary intellectuals and scholars in Bosnia.","PeriodicalId":30803,"journal":{"name":"Verba Hispanica","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70589250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
