Brillouin Time Domain Reflectometry (BOTDR) was used to monitor the deformation. The principle is based on the measurement of the stimulated Brillouin scattering. The whole experiment was carried out during the construction of the motorway tunnel in Slovakia. As part of the construction of the tunnel, the standard optical telecommunication fiber was attached to the primary tunnel beams that was subsequently used as a sensor for the BOTDR system. The sensor allows monitoring and analysis of the load on the highway tunnel to ensure the safety of the structural load. In total, there were 6 measurement days, which were scheduled in 5 months of tunnel construction.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129767075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Initial measurements were performed on a Heckert FP 10/1 press. Based on these measurements, a prototype of a bending sensor for vehicle detection was designed. This prototype is intended primarily for static vehicle detection, where the magnitude of attenuation is proportional to the weight of the car. When measuring on this prototype, we tested 4 types of ethylene propylene diene methylene (EPDM) grooved rubber that pressed on an optical fibre located on smooth EPDM rubber base. Based on the measurements, we chose the EPDM rubber cover for which the detector had the greatest sensitivity. These initial results indicate that this can be a life-capable structure with a possible extension to a static weight sensor and, partly, to a WIM (weigh in motion) dynamic weight sensor.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"150 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122253427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The distinctive behaviour of ECC, makes it ductile as compared to brittle nature of conventional concrete. Ductile nature of ECC, makes it applicable in seismic resistant, repairing and retrofitting areas and blast resistant structural elements. In the present investigation, two types of polymer fibers (i.e. polyester (PET) fiber and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber) have been used in hybridization with different percentages (2+0), (2+0.5), (1.75+0.5), (1.5+0.5) for making ECC. Also fly ash, 55% of the total cementitious material, has been used for making sustainable concrete. The compressive, flexural and tensile tests were performed to evaluate the mechanical behaviour of hybrid fiber reinforced cementitious matrix. The test results revealed that PET fiber and PVA fiber in combination enhanced the strength properties of ECC by bridging effect of hybrid fibers.","PeriodicalId":307663,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Transportation Engineering (ICCSTE'19)","volume":"7 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123278733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
