{"title":"ANALYSIS OF THE TRAFFIC LOAD–INDUCED STRESSES OF EMBANKMENT","authors":"Mindaugas Zakarka","doi":"10.3846/mla.2022.15179","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3846/mla.2022.15179","url":null,"abstract":"This article represents traffic loads on the road structure distribution and evaluation of the vertical and horizontal stresses formation in the soil embankment. This evaluation allows to predict the depth and intensity of the propagation of additional stresses resulting from traffic loads. The calculations were performed in accordance with four normative documents applied in Lithuania, which define the loads on the road structure. The obtained results showed that the area to which the load is distributed has the greatest influence on the intensity of stresses and the distance of propagation. The maximum horizontal stress in the embankment was found to be no more than 70 kPa and the maximum stress propagation depth did not exceed 0.9 m. The results can be applied to a triaxial test apparatus to restore horizontal stresses in the embankment. It is recommended to select a lateral pressure from 20 kPa to 70 kPa for tests provided with triaxial test device. Rogoža","doi":"10.3846/mla.2021.15275","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3846/mla.2021.15275","url":null,"abstract":"When modernizing apartment buildings, heating appliances are replaced or old ones are left, high thermal temperatures are usually maintained, thus limiting the increase in the DH system’s efficiency. In the article, in order to evaluate the impact of the reduced thermal temperature of the building on space heating when the radiator area remains constant, 3 alternatives have been analyzed. They include cases when after the building modernization old heating appliances are left, but the temperature of the heat carrier is reduced up to 60/40/20 °C in one case or even up to 45/25/20 in another alternative. There has also been examined the possibility of reducing the heat carrier temperature of the heating system without modernization of the building. An hourly data analysis of the heating system model for two typical months of the heating season has been performed. Two alternative rejuvenators have been selected aromatic oil Nygen 910 and soft road bitumen V12000. PMB 45/80-55 bitumen, which is used in the upper and lower layers of asphalt pavement, was investigated. During the life time of the asphalt pvement, due to the effects of solar UV radiation, temperature and oxygen, of all the layers of the structure asphalt top layer reaches the highest degree of aging. Short-term and long-term aging were performed to simulate the aging of the bitmen under laboratory conditions. To determine the optimal amount of rejuvenator experiments were performed with 8%, 10% ir 14% rejuvenator by bitumen mass. The effect of rejuvenators were evaluated by studying the main physical properties of bitumen: penetration and softening temperature. The certification of buildings sets mandatory requirements for higher energy efficiency buildings’ level of airtightness. However, a bigger problem lies in existing older residential buildings, which are energy inefficient and do not require certification. The unused potential for energy savings observed here is related to the airtightness of single and double apartment residential buildings and energy efficiency related to airtightness of them. Therefore, this work analyses the airtightness of energy class D and lower buildings based on actual airtightness measurements and evaluates the possible energy saving potential associated with the application of airtightness measures based on the example of one inefficient single apartment building. This paper analyses the energy performance gap between actual energy consumption and energy demand obtained during the dynamic energy simulation and building certification. To identify the energy performance gap, an existing office of energy efficiency class B was selected as a case study. The simulation program IDA Indoor Climate and Energy was used to create a dynamic energy model, based on the designed documentation and the actual indoor climate parameters recorded by the building management system. The results of the case study showed that the accuracy and reliability of the results presented by the dynamic energy model of the building directly depend on the assumptions. The possibilities of installing heat pumps in DH systems are very wide, but most often the main purpose of their application is to increase the temperature of the supplied heat carrier at the heat substations of individual consumers or their groups. This paper describes a study that analyzed the possibilities of integrating an individual heat pump at a heat substation in a building to reduce the temperature of the heat carrier in the return line. Many countries are investing heavily in public transport to make it not only greener, but also more convenient, more attractive, faster, more competitive and more accessible. In order to promote a sustainable environment, private, public and non-motorized transport must functionally complement each other to form balanced integrated systems. There are currently two main forms of organizing public transport: a government-oriented service and a market-oriented service. Positive changes in the field of public transport are possible if in the process involves not only state and municipal institutions, but also infrastructure planners, passenger carriers and inhabitants. Public transport must be seen as a means of developing cities and regions. The aim of the article is to analyze the existing models of public transport organization and management, to compare them and submit a proposal, on the basis of which management model it would be possible to submit proposals for the improvement of the organization of Lithuanian public transport. Good foreign countries practice in the management and organization of public transport shows that in some countries public transport is already organized not by individual municipalities but by regions. Based on the achievements of foreign countries, municipalities are recommended to cooperate and share experience in creating a common public transport network. One such rapidly spreading technology is heat pumps. However, the use of air-to-water heat pumps in countries where the cold season is cold and humid has unfavourable conditions for the operation of this equipment during the heating season. As a result, the performance efficiency of the equipment decreases. This article presents the simulation results of an air-to-water heat pump operation in Lithuania using the TRNSYS modelling tool; its nominal heating capacity is 6.55 kW. The model was calibrated using real data obtained at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University when measurements were performed under heat pump freezing conditions. The seasonal performance factor of the heat pump heating mode was determined during the calculation. Parametric analysis of the model was also performed, when sensitivity of the model to the initial climatic data was observed. The student must describe the processor with the external components necessary for its operation in the specified HDL (hardware description language) language according to the provided specification during a certain number of projects. The weakness of this approach is that the basis of such projects is a processor of one specific architecture, so the lecturer faces the issue of individualization of projects. This article proposes a solution based on dedicated processors instead of one programmable processor of a specific architecture. It’s shown here that the issue of project individualization is easier solvable in the proposed way, and it does not deviate from the theory of computer architecture, because the programmable processor is a generalization of a dedicated processor. The article describes project design ideas based on dedicated processors and gives some examples. It is used for packet filtering, load-balancing, and many other manipulations with network traffic. Netfilter based packet filter iptables has been most common firewall tool for Linux systems for more than two decades. Successor of iptables – nftables was introduced in 2014. It was designed to overcome various iptables limitations. However, it hasn’t received wide popularity and transition is still ongoing. In recent years researchers and developers around the world are searching for solution to increase performance of packet processing tools. For that purpose, many of them trying to utilize eBPF (Extended Berkeley Packet Filter) with XDP (Express Data Path) data path.
