Most of the actions we take and the processes around us are time-varying. ANNs with dynamic properties allow processing time-dependent data and solving tasks such as speech and text processing, prediction models, face and emotion recognition, game strategy development. Dynamics in neural networks can appear in the input data, the architecture of the neural network, and the individual elements of the neural network – synapses and neurons. Unlike static synapses, dynamic synapses can change their connection strength based on incoming information. This is a fundamental principle allows neural networks to perform complex tasks like word processing or face recognition more efficiently. Dynamic synapses play a key role in the ability of artificial neural networks to learn from experience and change over time, which is one of the key aspects of artificial intelligence. The scientific works examined in this article show that there are no literature sources that review and compare dynamic DNTs according to their synapses. To fill this gap, the article reviews and groups DNTs with dynamic synapses. Dynamic neural networks are defined by providing a general mathematical expression. A dynamic synapse is described by specifying its main properties and presenting a general mathematical expression. Also an explanation, how these synapses can be modelled and integrated into 11 different dynamic ANNs is shown. Moreover, structures of dynamic ANNs are compared according to the properties of dynamic synapses.","PeriodicalId":30324,"journal":{"name":"Mokslas Lietuvos Ateitis","volume":"5 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135390711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, nutrient recovery from wastewater and sludge has received much attention from regulators, academia, industry, and the general public. Institutions and governments around the globe are now seeking innovation to implement a “circular economy” for sewage sludge usage. The development of cost-effective and environmentally friendly disposal processes is necessary to meet political demands. In developing countries, common approaches to the treatment such as incineration and landfilling, cause unwanted secondary pollution. The study aims to determine sewage sludge biochar’s physical and chemical properties and its preparation for wastewater treatment. The chosen chemical properties of sewage sludge biochar were electrical conductivity (EC), total organic carbon (%) content, physical properties were volatile solids, ash content, and also conducted phosphorus leaching experiment. It was determined that by increasing the pyrolysis temperature, the electrical conductivity (from 665 µS/cm to 277 µS/cm) and total organic carbon (from 29.03% to 17.25%) measurements decreased. By increasing the pyrolysis temperature, the ash content (from 50.07% to 69.45%), and volatile solids (from 53.61% to 74.55%) measurements increased.","PeriodicalId":30324,"journal":{"name":"Mokslas Lietuvos Ateitis","volume":"2011 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135826449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An important part of Lithuania’s energy sector is the natural gas sector and its transmission network, including the gas distribution stations (GDS). It is the GDS that has an unexploited potential for energy recovery, as the gas pressure is reduced through the use of gas pressure regulators, where the potential energy in the highpressure gas is not utilized in a useful way, and the necessary heating of natural gas is carried out through the use of natural gas boilers, with additional environmental pollution. The aim of the study is to analyse the gas distribution station, to find the areas of the station where potential energy is not being used and the environment is being polluted, and to propose reasonable solutions. Following a literature review, alternative technical solutions are selected: turbine-expander, conversion of the gas preheating system from gas boilers to a geothermal heat pump, use of solar collectors, photovoltaic solar cells. In order to assess the potential of technological solutions to improve the efficiency of the DSS and reduce emissions, a multi-criteria analysis of the proposed solutions is carried out, where the measures under evaluation are analysed in energy, economic and environmental terms. The energy assessment analyses the energy consumption, the economic assessment calculates the net present value (NPV) of the investment for each solution and the environmental assessment examines the environmental impact of the proposed measures over their life cycle. Based on the results of the multicriteria analysis, the systems best suited to the object of study (GDS) are recommended.","PeriodicalId":30324,"journal":{"name":"Mokslas Lietuvos Ateitis","volume":"85 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80484544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The growing number of intrusions requires more sophisticated methods to protect computer networks. Various machine learning algorithms are used to detect network intrusions and anomalies, but their accuracy is limited. In this research, we address the problem of improving network-level intrusion detection by applying hybrid machine-learning algorithms. The paper proposes three new hybrid machine learning methods and investigates their accuracy using two publicly available datasets CSE-CIC-IDS2018 and NSW-NB-15. In order to increase the accuracy of the classification models, hyperparameter optimization was performed. The iteration method and the Chi-square χ2 test were used to identify significant features of the data set. Analyzing the research results, it was found that the highest network anomaly recognition accuracy of 99.34% was achieved by applying a hybrid algorithm consisting of a decision tree, naive Bayesian, and multilayer perceptron algorithms. Achieved result is 3.13% higher than the best accuracy achieved by individual machine learning algorithms. In order to comprehensively evaluate the studied machine learning algorithms and their suitability for detecting intrusions in a computer network, the algorithms were ranked using the SCR, DR, FR ranking methods.","PeriodicalId":30324,"journal":{"name":"Mokslas Lietuvos Ateitis","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75175247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because these gases are toxic to human health, cause corrosion, and damage the combined heat and power (CHP) engines and other metallic parts after burning. Hence, the following requirements must be met by a biogas purification method: 1 – high H2S removal efficiency (RE), 2 – stability over a long period of time, 3 – low cost, 4 – minimal biogas dilution, and 5 – straightforward structure. There are various physical, chemical, and biological technologies, which can be undertaken to meet earlier mentioned criteria and efficiently remove H2S from biogas. In this study, electrochemical oxidation, adsorption by zeolite, pressure swing adsorption, adsorption on activated carbon, adsorption on metal oxides, adsorption on nano-particles, metal sulfide precipitation, water scrubbing, membrane separation, organic solvents (amine), microaeration, and purification by sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (anoxic, aerobic, anaerobic), will be introduced, while their pros and cons are compared and discussed in detail.","PeriodicalId":30324,"journal":{"name":"Mokslas Lietuvos Ateitis","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76253640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on their chemical composition, dyes are divided into anionic, cationic and non-ionic dyes. In this work, the physical method of wastewater treatment – adsorption – was studied. This is a method in which various natural substances called sorbents are used. Materials used in the adsorption process should be nontoxic, environmentally friendly, cheap, and their use should not cause secondary pollution. The idea of using sorbents made from waste in experimental studies, which can even be used several times in the adsorption process, promotes the sustainable use of resources. The study compared different sorbents: aerogel, devulcanized rubber granules and sewage sludge. It was found that the highest values of adsorption efficiency were characterized by sewage sludge granules that were pyrolyzed at 500 °C. Using 500 °C pyrolysis sewage sludge, the adsorption efficiency reached 28.14–53.73%. Granules made from devulcanized car tire rubber had the lowest adsorption efficiency values: the adsorption efficiency value reached 12.92%.
