This paper presents the application of KF-Adaline Algorithm for estimation of power system harmonics and shunt active power filter with hysteresis current controller based on space vector modulation for perfect elimination of harmonics. The space vector modulation (SVM) based hysteresis current controller (HCC) combines both the advantages of SVM and HCC. This controller determines a set of space vector from a region detector and then applies a space vector according to the Hysteresis current controller. Reference current extraction is done by the synchronous detection technique which is compared to the actual current and the error current is fed to the Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF). Shunt Active Power Filter manages to provide better compensation signals to eliminate the harmonics for power quality improvement which is fed to the distribution system. Simulation results are provided to verify the better performance of SAPF due to the proposed controller.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128952512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Faults in power transmission lines cause transients that travel at the speed of light and propagate along the line as travelling wave. The fault is generated in a simple two bus system within the MATLAB Simulink program. Clarke's transform has been applied to convert the fault current into their modal components. Aerial mode is only applied in the analysis. Daubechies4 wavelet transform has been applied to decompose the Aerial mode into Scale 1 and Scale 2 wavelet coefficient.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"288 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124579693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thermal area is provided with single reheat turbine and generation rate constraints (GRC) of 3% per minute while CCGT system is provided with GRC of 5% per minute. Several classical controllers such as Integral (I), Proportional-Integral (PI) and Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) are considered separately in the system for secondary, air flow and temperature controllers. The gains of the controllers are optimized using Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm. Dynamic responses corresponding to these controllers are compared. Analysis reveals that the performance of PID controllers is much better than the others. Sensitivity analysis reveals the robustness of the optimized PID controller gains of the two area system to wide changes in inertia constant (H), system loading condition and other system parameters.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123916325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Self excited induction generator (SEIG) is selected as a good candidate to extract electric power from wind. In this paper transient performance of SEIG during short circuit fault has been studied. Though SEIG is capable to protect itself from faults, but it is also necessary convey the message to operator about the fault. DS algorithm utilizes the Brownian-like random-walk movement used by an organism to migrate. Prime focus of ELD is minimization of fuel costs of thermal generators, involving different constraints such as power balance, ramp rate limits and prohibited operating zone etc. The performance of DS algorithm for solving ELD problems is evaluated and examined by simulating two different small and medium test systems and one large test case system. Simulation results for different test systems show that the computational times and fuel costs obtained by DS are much lesser than many other algorithms reported in the previous literatures.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124151617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to meet the rising electrical power demand, reliability, service quality and pollution reduction, the existing power grid infrastructure should be developed into a Smart Grid that has the flexibility to allow interconnection with the distributed generation. Although the expansion of DG has positive impacts on voltage profile in Grid system, the introduction of DG affiliated with distribution network makes the voltage profile of buses in a fluctuating state and hence makes the system unstable. An attempt has been made to demonstrate the FACTS device to make the grid connected system stable and more reliable. In general FACTS devices are voltage-source converters which act as either a source or sink of reactive AC power to an electricity network. The paper presents a comparative study of voltage profile improvement of a grid connected distributed generation (DG) with the help of UPFC and SVC. Simulation results are provided to confirm the above said statements.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123082603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A detailed modeling of solar photovoltaic (SPV) system, a wind energy system (WES) and a micro hydro system (MHS) and their integration and eventual connection to a common AC bus feeding power to three-phase load is presented. Along with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system, the SPV system has a DC-DC converter to obtain a regulated DC output. The voltage source inverter (VSI) performs DC-AC conversion, the AC output being smoothen by means of an LC filter. The WES consists offixed pitch angle and a variable speed wind turbine model which acts as prime mover to a capacitor excited asynchronous generator (CAG) meant for generating the rated voltage. Similarly the MHS is modeled with a CAG assuming a constant input power. The integrated system is modeled in Matlab Simulink environment and the simulated results are presented for different three-phase loads. The inferences are drawn and adequately explained.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115713979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the presence of non-linear loads in the utility grid will ultimately result to generation of the current and voltage harmonics and this in turn will hamper the power quality of the whole power system. Recently, the utility grids are accommodated with mixed energies which results in increase of complexities and various instabilities. The present paper is based on the improvement of power quality with hybrid power generating system comprising of both Wind and PV system. An improved fuzzy logic based MPPT is implemented for the hybrid system which provides maximum power and helps to attain a stable and reliable power from the generation system both for the loads and the utility grid, thus improving both the steady and dynamic behaviors of the whole generation system. A grid-connected control strategy is proposed keeping in view of the problems, which is based on the model of a hybrid system with load parallel in large system. The control strategy can not only make the full use of photovoltaic (PV) power, but can also maintain a synchronous voltage with a fluctuant reactive load. Two different P and Q based inverter control topologies are designed to provide a closed loop for both active and reactive power control for the hybrid system and maintaining an accurate synchronization of power quality of the utility grid. Thus, the inverter can be utilized as power converter which will inject the power generated from the renewable energy source to the grid and can also compensate the power quality disturbances and the load reactive power demand.","PeriodicalId":301088,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Energy, Power and Environment: Towards Sustainable Growth (ICEPE)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128142712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
