The study of the energetics of the Nb2O5/organic solution interface was performed by means of a non-destructive optical technique, photocurrent spectroscopy. By means of this technique, it was possible estimating the value of the flat band potential and locating conduction and valence band. A more cathodic value of flat band potential in respect with acidic solution was found in organic medium. From impedance spectra, the electrical circuit that gives best fitting values is constituted by two resistances in parallel with two constant phase elements and in series with the resistance of the electrolyte. On considering the exponential coefficient, the constant phase elements model distorted capacitances.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"1165 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121047574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pre-planned OBS routing strategies can be applied as static routes in normal network operation without the need for resource-update signalling messages, combined with dynamic contention resolution schemes, or when the network tries to recover from a congestion state. In this paper, we discuss the applicability and performance improvement, when compared with shortest path routing, of two path selection strategies, taking into account different network topologies and strategy parameters.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114910422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A genetic algorithm (GA) optimization approach is employed to solve this complex and multi-constraint problem under heavy load demand matrices employing the COST239 test bench. Simulation results demonstrate that the GA is efficient to establish both bandwidth and propagation delay optimization lightpaths.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122172309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performances comparison of the three family codes, for coherent and incoherent source, shows that the EQC codes offer better results on term of Bit Error Rate (BER) than the two others family codes. In fact this family codes presents the better correlation properties. Moreover, we demonstrate that by controlling the optical bandwidth of the encoders/decoders, we can improve system performances in the case of incoherent source.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117015441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two applications are studied, the home network and local area network. For the different applications, the quality of transmission depends on the system parameters that must be selected by precision. From numerical simulation results, it is confirmed that as the bit rate increase as the system parameters selection becomes more critical. The lasers used in these systems have a high power output and good directivity which minimize the loss of the link in comparison with the classical emitters utilized in the infrared wireless optical communication links. Our system can give a good quality of transmission with a bit rate until 40 Gbit/s.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114832905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Coumarines and their analogues are well-known for their reversible photoinduced cyclodimerisation properties, leading to cyclobutane-based dimers (scheme) [2]. This equilibrium can be tuned according to the wavelength which is applied, and the resulting systems are of course dramatically structurally and electronically different. Therefore, the coumarine system offers a unique opportunity for applications in various fields involving conjugated molecular frameworks. In the area of photonics and nonlinear optics one of the great advantages of functionalized materials lies on the photochemical properties of the polymer. In the present work, homo- and copolymers built from the free radical polymerization of methacrylic monomers incorporating a coumarin side-group have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Results of photochemical and optical activities of the corresponding polymers will be presented.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134166068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It presupposes the substitution of photons by ballistic electrons, but it also requires a simple and robust concept to assemble the analogues of basic electronic and optical components on such a tiny length scale. Here, one of the most promising candidate schemes employs graphene as a basic nanosubstrate. We elucidate the suggested behaviour of graphene as an electronic metamaterial [1], and show that other desired electronic or optical functionalities may be obtained through a patterning with sub-nanometer sized boron clusters [2].","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132257470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The images captured from different layers have a different contrast: the images obtained from the deeper layers of the specimen will have a lower contrast and will present a certain degree of blur in respect to the images obtained from the topmost layers. The main reasons responsible for the effects described above are light absorption and scattering by the objects and particles that are present in the volume through which the light passes. Also light attenuation can be caused by the inclination of the observed surface. In the case of the surfaces that have a steep inclination the reflected light will have a different direction than the one of the detector. We propose a technique that can be used to compensate the effects of light attenuation based on histogram operations. We will consider two types of histogram operations: histogram equalization and histogram specification. A discussion of the results that were obtained using the two types of operations will be presented.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"348 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116318115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
