The computation of each acoustic mode supported by the fiber structure allows us a deep and detailed investigation of the characteristics of the Brillouin gain spectrum. We focus our attention on optical fibers acting as acoustic antiwaveguides where the biggest contribution to the Brillouin response often comes from very high-order modes but it is sometimes overlooked because of computational issues. Our analysis clearly highlights their role and their dependence on the physical and geometrical structure of the fiber.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122103093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Network providers and content providers will be able to deploy applications that contain materials such as high definition video, audio, and high quality graphics for which high bandwidth is required directly into the layer 1 network. Next generation SONET utilizes virtual concatenation (VCAT) to split a circuit into multiple smaller circuits and is expected to improve network utilization. However, there is a time delay limit that VCAT requires for it to split and combine the circuits without jeopardizing the content of the stream. We associate this time limit as the quality of service (QoS) the L1VPN network needs to meet in implementing VCAT in multi-domain environment. In this paper, QoS implementation is taken into consideration in order to achieve optimal network utilization when network performance is measured. The results show that VCAT implementation in multidomain environment with QoS consideration improve the network performance.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133263705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the third-order nonlinear optical response of nanometer thick Au films and Au nano-island films, both deposited on transparent dielectric substrates, are going to be presented and discussed. In addition, the nonlinear optical response of Au nano-clusters encapsulated in block copolymer micelles will be also presented and compared with the other nanostructures. In all cases, the influence of the morphological characteristics of these structures on the nonlinear optical response will be discussed.","PeriodicalId":298995,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd ICTON Mediterranean Winter","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127034399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
