With coloured overlays, it also helps to improve reading speed. The aim of this research is to focus on identifying and assessing visual stress associated with reading speed and most preferred colour overlays during routine eye examination. An experimental study was conducted on 40 MSU students. They were identified using a set of questionnaire designed to accomplish the aims of this study. The detailed questionnaire consisted of 19 questions enquiring on ocular history. Question 2 until 6 shows strong indicator of binocular vision problem while question 14 until 19 shows strong indicator of visual stress. The questionnaire was introduced by Sylvia Moody to differentiate whether the subject is having binocular vision problem or visual stress. Next, we proceed with visual stress assessment. The patients were given a computer screen as a reading material and reading speed was taken before and after using coloured overlays. Data was entered on SPSS version 22.0. It is indicated that more than half of the subject are having visual stress (52.5%). The common symptom reported were eye tired due to reading (76.2%), eye distracted when reading (76.2%), and uncomfortable due to fluorescent lighting (76.2%). There is a significant difference in reading speed before and after using coloured overlays (p-value <0.01). The most preferred colour overlays is Aqua (23.8%), Grass (23.8%), Magenta (19%) and Purple (19%). There are benefit of using coloured overlay if the subject is having a sign and symptoms of visual stress. The pre-formulated ophthalmic dye was tested in 9 mice’s as an animal model for corneal ulcer which is induced by direct contact facilitated with 0.9%NaCl for growth of staphylococcus aureus and 3 mice’s serves as control. The degree of irritancy was also considered by doing “Draize-Eye Irritation Test”. The proposed alternative diagnostic dye was compared to the synthetic fluorescein dye in terms of staining, yellowish-green hyper-fluorescence, draining mechanism, and potential ability to localize area of ulcerations. Ophthalmic parameters was also compared based on the range of concentrations and intensity of yellowish green hyper-fluorescence was analysed through absorption spectrum of wavelength in UV-Visible spectroscopy. All results were gathered and analysed for cause-relationship effect. The study showed that the pre-formulated alternative diagnostic dye can potentially replace the synthetic fluorescein dye in the market. Since, the result of studies revealed that it has a good staining affinity in corneal epithelium, drains through physiological mechanism, can localized corneal ulcerations and practically non-irritant at pH: 4.70. But have less fluorescence due to possible interference in the binding of the curcumin and polyvinyl alcohol, pH level, solvent used, concentrations and presence of other functional groups present in turmeric extract. Thus, requires further studies on how to enhance the yellowish-green fluorescence of curcumin presence and adjustment in some parameters in the formulation of the alternative diagnostic dye.","PeriodicalId":297643,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Optometry, Eye and Health Research","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134512187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Measuring the suitability of the measure of visual impairment from contact lenses and spectacles is not enough to be assessed from visual acuity and visual field measurements alone, but also needed subjective patient-based visual function assessments, namely the VF-14 questionnaire. A total of 40 students were involved in this study. All of the participants were given the VF-14 questionnaire twice: for visual function using contact lenses; and visual function using spectacles. The mean VF-14 score among contact lenses and spectacles wearer were 90.63±2.96 and 93.04±2.45respectively. There were significant differences visual function between contact lens and spectacles wearer (p = 0.00) especially in reading small print activity; reading signs; watching TV; playing table games; cooking; driving during the day; and recognizing people at distance. Thus, it can be concluded that participants with low and moderate myopia, both contact lens and spectacle users, had visual function with mild and minimal disturbances. The visual function of spectacles is better for distant viewing activities and detailed work, while contact lenses are better for viewing activities at medium distances.","PeriodicalId":297643,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Optometry, Eye and Health Research","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127068188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Neuro- Optometry is one of the expanded specialty field of vision care that combines neurology and optometry to assess how the brain processes information sent from the eyes. The main purpose of this study is to determine the applicability of Neuro- Optometry Vision Questionnaire among patients who suffered from cerebrovascular accident. Such knowledge will significantly be used in designing a management plan to improve the visual conditions of the respondents, thereby increasing their productivity in work and at home. This study employed the purposive-quota sampling technique to determine the respondents of the study. First, the researchers interviewed the 40 selected respondents and then their visual manifestations were assessed using the Neuro-Optometry Vision Questionnaire. On the second part of examination, Neuro-Optometric Clinical Evaluation was conducted as pre-requisite procedures. The data collected are subjected to different statistical measures. Frequency – Percentage was used to determine the number and percentage of the respondents based on their visual clinical profile,refractive condition, and status based on the result of Neuro-Optometric Clinical Evaluation.Weighted Mean, for a more intensive evaluation of the visual manifestations of respondents and T-test to determine if there is a significant difference in the responses of the two groups of respondents using Neuro-Optometry Vision Questionnaire. It was found out that there is a significant difference on the responses between the non-cerebrovascular accident respondents and Cerebrovascular Accident Respondents using the Neuro-Optometry Vision Questionnaire. Furthermore, the incidence of ocular–visual defects or difficulties was found to be less than on non-cerebrovascular accident respondents because of most their responses could be associated with the aging process while many cerebrovascular accident survivors report vision difficulties, decrease in balance, decreased depth perception and reading problems. In spite of this fact, ocular and visual disorders were found to be significantly associated with stroke in the study. Also, all cerebrovascular accident survivors should receive a comprehensive screening and Neuro-Optometric examination to assess visual disorders in the early days following a stroke as they may warrant referral for a specialist’s assessment and targeted treatment specific to their type of visual impairment.","PeriodicalId":297643,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Optometry, Eye and Health Research","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134638084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Overall, vision impairment (VI) among children is estimated 4% of the world's impaired vision. VI refers to visual acuity (VA) less than 6/120). One-third of the vision impairment and blindness globally are recognised to vision problems from childhood. Visual Impairment (VI) prevalence among Malaysian children is still lacking, but it is predicted to increase in years to come. This study aimed to explore the association of uncooperative behaviour during an eye examination with prevailing VI in Malaysia. A modified Frankl scale method was used to evaluate the uncooperative behaviour in pediatric patients during eye examinations.
