Determinants of Refractive Error among Primary School Children in Kuala Lumpur
Introduction: Uncorrected refractive error is the leading cause of visual impairment. This is an importantissue because a lack of awareness of the factors that cause refractive errors will influence vision in the earlyyears. Objective: The objective of this study is to find out what are the determinants for refractive erroramong school children. Methodology: In this study, 244 primary school children were selected from twoprimary schools in the Wangsa Maju district. The mean age for respondents was 10.40 ± 1.22 years. A crosssectional study was done using questionnaires to respondents. Data analysis was done using Chi-square.Results: From the findings, there was no relationship between lifestyle, genetic factors, eating habits, personal achievement, and machine dependence with refractive error. Conclusion: It is essential to createawareness among the public, emphasising the effects of untreated refractive error using social media, massmedia and other sources
