Contact lenses were used to improve vision in the form of thin and clear plastic. The aims of this study were identified and compared the condition of anterior eye segments users and non-users of contact lenses students in Tasikmalay. A total of 58 students consisted of 24 female users and 24 non-contact lens users were involved in this study. The results showed that the conditions of superior and inferior eyelids for contact lens wearers were mostly in Grade 2 and non-contact lens wearers in Grade 0. Palpebra and bulb conjunctival conditions for contact lens wearers were mostly in Grade 2 and non-lens wearer contact at Grade 0; and corneal conditions in both groups were in Grade 0. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the condition of the anterior eye segment of non-contact lens wearers is better than contact lens wearers. The use of a slit lamp is highly recommended for further research data collection.","PeriodicalId":297643,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Optometry, Eye and Health Research","volume":"234 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124289895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Spectacle correction is the most prevalent method of managing myopia. This study investigated the factors influencing myopic patients to choose spectacles compared to other methods. A questionnaire consisting of 25 questions using a Likert scale was developed and administered through an online Google form survey for data collection. The Cronbach's Alpha test was used for reliability and validity testing. A total of 150 participants (Age=25.82±7.26; Female=74.7%) completed the survey. The reliability and validity test showed that the questionnaires had good reliability and validity (Cronbach's α=0.881). Five factors were identified that indicated that myopic patients preferred spectacle compared to contact lenses and other methods. The five factors were practitioner's recommendations, quality, style preference, choice, and cost. The practitioner's suggestion scored the highest (80.4%) for myopic patients to choose spectacle correction followed by quality (78.5%), style preference (73.2%), choice (64.5%) and cost (50.7%). Patients did not wear contact lenses because they may cause possible infections (71.3%) and complications (66.6%). Conclusion: This study reveals that six factors influenced the decisions of myopic patients to choose spectacle correction compared to other methods, and the practitioner’s suggestions and style are the main factors. Practitioners could use these factors to improve their services to match the needs and expectations of their patients for myopia management.","PeriodicalId":297643,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Optometry, Eye and Health Research","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130587542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to determine the significance of refractive error changes among educators as impact of online teaching before and after Covid-19 in Shah Alam. A quantitative study design was done by administrating a purposive sampling technique that was applied to 24 educators aged between 30 – 50 years old, representing non-presbyope, pre-presbyope, and presbyope population. The data collection was done by performing the refractive assessments including retinoscopy, visual acuity using the Snellen chart at distance, Snellen near chart and subjective refraction. A total of 24 educators (16 females and 8 males) were enrolled in this study; out of which 19 (79.2%) were having myopia, 1 (4.2%) having hyperopia, 4 (16.7%) were emmetropic and 18 (75%) were found to have astigmatism. The significance of refractive error of emmetropic shift (-0.50 to +0.50D) was about 6(25%), myopic (>-0.50D) was high 17 (70.83%) and the hyperopic shift of (> +0.50D) were low about 1 (4.17%) after the Covid-19. Pre-presbyope and presbyope educators developed CVS symptoms, dry eyes, eye strain, blurry vision, and headache was reported by 66.6%, 58%, 50% and 45% of this study population. In conclusion, there is a negative effect on the educator’s vision due to myopic changes happening among non-presbyope, pre-presbyope, and presbyope. This should prompt the educational authorities to improve knowledge and awareness to prevent CVS symptoms among lecturers during online learning.","PeriodicalId":297643,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Optometry, Eye and Health Research","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132478313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a convenientsampling method, a cross-sectional study was conducted among 480 students in a private university inShah Alam using a self-administered online questionnaire. The data were analysed using SPSS software.Analysis was collected from 480 respondents (female 282 and males 198); showing 443 respondents(92.2%) spend more than two hours on screen despite the international guidelines recommending youngpeople limit their recreational screen time to less than 2 hours per day (Babic M J. et al. 2016) and 246respondents (51.2% ) spend more than 9 hours on screen. Among 480 respondents, 62.6 %, 69.4%, and46.5% experienced mild to extremely severe depression, anxiety, and stress. This research found that thereis no association between screen time with depression and stress. However, there is a significantassociation between screen time and anxiety, p-value < 0.05. Post hoc analyses on anxiety revealed thereis no significant difference between the duration of screen exposure. This study has revealed theassociation between screen exposure and anxiety. However, the difference within the duration of theassociation is not significant. Therefore, the current generation needs to be aware of their risk towardanxiety irrespective of screen time exposure. ","PeriodicalId":297643,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Optometry, Eye and Health Research","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123759936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, photopolymerization type II was usedto create a hybrid material made of gelatin and polystyrene. For this purpose, firstly gelatin nanofiber (GNF)was synthesized by the electrospinning process. Then, by adding styrene monomer on the gelatinnanofiber, it was bonded to the gelatin nanofiber simultaneously with styrene polymerization by thephotopolymerization type II. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy was used to characterize thechemical structure. Thermal degradations were investigated with thermogravimetric analysis. The surfacemorphologies were searched with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and wettability properties wereinvestigated.","PeriodicalId":297643,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Optometry, Eye and Health Research","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125907222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
