The paper will also show that how classroom learning can be enhanced by making available to learners the classroom lecture in audio /video/pdf format from anywhere and at all times on demand, referred as the lecture-on-demand technology. This technology enables the distant, absent and those students who have lost concentration in the classroom, the experience of the class room environment beyond the physical classroom. In this method, the students can concentrate on learning and not be distracted by having to take notes in the classroom. For instructors, the technology is as easy as writing on transparencies. The legacy classroom lecturing is preserved in this technology except the lack of visual feedback. The method requires minimal training in transition for both the teacher and the learner. Technology is the result of integration of Microsoft Power Point (tablet version) and a third party software for capturing and embedding the audio and video parts of the lecture. The course includes three components: a) content, b) virtual laboratories and c) project. The course content contains enabling technology, deployment in networking infrastructure and the management of optical networks. The virtual lab is based on the pioneering simulation-based online virtual laboratories in fiber-optic communication and networking, developed and commercialized by ATeL, LLC. The labs are designed for a new, so called digital generation of learners and cater to varied and newer learning styles. The students are required to prepare the design of an optical network for a local area in the vicinity of the campus, taking into account local terrain and the networking needs specific to the area. Project design is the capstone activity involving literature search and application of multiple learned concepts and techniques. This course is being taught as a senior/graduate level class. Industries are mainly depending on electrical energy, but unfortunately the sources for electrical energy are depleting and hence the gap between the supplier and the load is continuously increasing. The work presented in this paper gives the results of application of a few DSM techniques along with batteries applied to an industrial customer. The work presented in this paper is lowering the maximum demand during peak hours and savings in the energy bill has been achieved by avoiding the penalty charges on MD. Application of few DSM techniques and batteries results in clipping down the peaks and filling the valleys that flattens the load curve of a milk industry, hence a great improvement in the load factor and savings in the energy bill for the consumers.","PeriodicalId":295946,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 8 International Conference on Computational Technologies in Electrical and Electronics Engineering","volume":"237 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116296663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each of these wireless nodes can be equipped with multiple radios, called a multiradio/multichannel node, and each of the radios can be configured to a different channel to enhance network capacity. All wireless nodes cooperatively route each otherpsilas traffic to the Internet through one or more Internet Transit Access Points (TAPS), which are gateways to the Internet. Nodes may also communicate with each other directly through the mesh network without going through TAPS. Supporting communication among mesh nodes and TAPS requires the use of routing protocols that must be combined with a routing metric to determine which route among all possible routes between a pair of nodes will be used. The design of effective routing metrics, however, depends on the specific characteristics of the target network. For example, the severe energy constraints of sensor networks demand the design of energy efficient routing, while the mobility of nodes in ad hoc networks demand the design of protocols that can efficiently maintain connectivity. The unique combination of static nodes with the shared nature of the wireless medium in mesh networks also imposes specific requirements for the design of routing metrics. In this paper it was analyzed the proposed IPRA (Intelligent Portal Routing Algorithm) protocol and its performances in comparison with those offered by the AODV (Ad-hoc on Demand Vector) and DSDV (Destination Sequence Distance Vector) protocols.","PeriodicalId":295946,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 8 International Conference on Computational Technologies in Electrical and Electronics Engineering","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128246600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This leads to poorly damping oscillations. To damp these oscillations several methods can be used. This paper compares, using a detailed simulation program, four active damping systems that inject on the rotor a damping current in order to damp stator-flux oscillations. The purpose is to evaluate which damping method provides the best damping using less additional rotor current. For damping transients originated on the stator, e.g. voltage dips, all the methods analyzed need high values of rotor damping current. The two axis damping method that uses variations of state variable is the method that uses lower values of rotor current for the same damping action.","PeriodicalId":295946,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Region 8 International Conference on Computational Technologies in Electrical and Electronics Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133899173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
