This article compares and contrasts Western logic in the conventional sense of the term with those doctrines and concepts of logic that are equally representative of the development of Eastern intellectual history, as measured through a comparative lens of East and West. Specifically, it focuses on the similarities and differences between Eastern and Western logic. Ancient Chinese logic continued to exist in its own right. It developed byaccording to the traditional Chinese philosophical tradition, even though it diverged from the path formal logic took in the West during its development. The Mohists, the Ming School, and later Buddhist Logic were the primary places where it was first observed making its appearance. To varying degrees, these schools or schools of thought investigated dialectics, linguistic analysis, and logical reasoning; they were instrumental in laying the groundwork for developing ancient Chinese logic. The Named Schools, Mohist, and Buddhist logical systems are all forms of ancient Chinese logic that reflect the development of Chinese logic. These schools’ investigations into argumentation techniques, linguistic analysis, and conceptual definition undeniably influenced subsequent generations of Chinese philosophy in their pursuit of philosophical and logical understanding. This is even thoughthese schools diverging significantly from conventional Western logic regarding methodology and application domains.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"80 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141376614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two works are considered pioneering greatly because female characters are of vital importance, breaking the narrative traditions. The paper, capturing this mutual transcendence, examines the two works through a feminism scope, and explores how social background influences feminism ideals by introducing the measurement “feminism applicability” for evaluation of Daiyu and Elizabeth’s respective feminism, and aims to argue that society determines, both shapes internally and affects exteriorly, applicability of feminism. By applying the comparative analysis method, the writer finally concludes that Ming-Qing and British Enlightenment triggers females’ recognition towards self, which contributes to their mutual emotionality; however, demand for rationality, females’ rights of speech and prevailing ideologies differentiate in two societies, thus their strength of need for self-judgement and autonomy is differed, resulting in different levels of feminism applicability.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"50 s252","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141377390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To better understand how Chinese college students learning English as a second language choose their vocabulary learning strategies, this study explored the impact of major orientation and academic level inequalities. 338 questionnaires were gathered from a common undergraduate university in China to finish the diversity study. The statistical analysis findings indicated that while a student’s major did not significantly influence the choices of vocabulary learning strategies, their academic level significantly impacted the use of memory and determination strategies. It was evident from the results that educating students to employ memory strategy and motivating them to learn with determination will help them perform better in English competency.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"132 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141376120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Against this backdrop of societal upheaval, the characters grapple with profound identity crisis and uncertainty. This paper contends that Li’s novel reflects the challenges posed by nationalism and the ensuing crisis of self-identity. The study explores the characters’ responses across various transitional phases: from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republican Era, from Japanese colonial rule to Communist Party governance, and the period preceding Hong Kong’s return. Additionally, the paper analyzes how the complex relationship between protagonists Duan Xiaolou and Cheng Dieyi borrows thematic elements from the original Peking Opera play. Furthermore, it examines the fluctuations in the evolution of traditional Peking Opera plays amidst the rise of anti-feudalism. By exploring the anxiety and uncertainty prevalent among the populace leading up to Hong Kong’s return, the novel’s adaptation amplifies the theme of self-identity ambiguity. It heightens the sense of historical significance compared to its truncated film version. The study selects Li’s text as its primary source due to its comprehensive exploration of the themes of identity crisis and belongingness, which can be triggered by ideological shifts enforced by colonial powers or domestic politics. Despite being set in 20th-century China, individuals with analogous experiences may still find domestic and international resonance in contemporary times.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"6 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141380605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given its importance, linguists are intrigued by effective methods of second language acquisition. They have put forward some opinions about the impact on the impacts on both first language (L1) and second language (L2) acquisition. To have a further exploration of the impact on L2 acquisition, this research focuses on the age-related factors in L2 learning in Chinese children and adults. The author picks out three representatives from different age groups to interview about their experiences of L2 learning. Through their answers, the authors found that self-cognition plays an important role in learning L2. Furthermore, adults‘ L2 learning is more significantly influenced by various limitations. To develop suitable methods for learners of different ages, it is essential that learners proactively engage with L2 learning. Additionally, high school teachers should ensure students have ample opportunities to practice.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"130 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141377016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plentiful research has found that L2 grit can be positively affected by teacher support. However, the current study does not explain the correlation between their sub-dimensions. Therefore, this study collected Chinese university EFL learners’ L2 grit and teacher support data and analyzed it through factor analysis and correlational analysis to explore the relationships between the sub-factors of L2 grit and teacher support. In this study, perseverance of efforts and consistency of interest are extracted from L2 grit, and academic support, emotional support, and progressive support are extracted from teacher support. Results show that L2 grit and teacher support are significantly positively correlated. However, regarding sub-factors, only the positive correlation between PE and academic support, PE and emotional support, and CI and emotional support are significant. This study supports the importance of teacher support in cultivating learner’s L2 grit. Meanwhile, it emphasizes the role of emotional and academic support in evoking learner’s positive emotions and helping them develop grit traits.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"11 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141381549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The psychological and behavioral changes of the female protagonist in the text touch people’s hearts and drive the continuous progress of their relationship. This article applies the concept of personal space in environmental psychology and its following effects to analyze the reasons for Elizabeth’s psychological and behavioral changes. This opens up new analytical perspectives, establishing the connection between Elizabeth’s personal spatial changes and her psychology and behavior. Her first impression of Darcy causes a large personal space. The reaction to repeated violations of her personal space becomes stronger. And then, when Darcy is proved innocent, causing a dramatic change in her personal space, ultimately resulting in a positive outcome. It reveals the specific content of equality, mutual respect, independence, sincere communication, and adherence to principles based on love in Elizabeth’s views on marriage and love. This article also analyzed the connection between the author Jane Austen herself and the influence of 18th-century British social factors and provides inspiration for contemporary views on marriage and love.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"21 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141379160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By comparing the differences between prose style and traditional poetic translation, the thesis reveals the unique advantages of prose style translation in conveying the deeper meanings, emotions, and cultural connotations of the original works. In particular, by analyzing Su Fuzhong’s translation, the thesis demonstrates how prose-style translation can effectively overcome linguistic and cultural differences and enhance the readability and acceptance of Shakespeare’s works among Chinese readers. In addition, the thesis analyzes in detail the strategies and techniques used in prose-style translation and discusses how to effectively reproduce and recreate the rhythmic beauty of poetry in prose-style translation. Although this study has its limitations, it successfully opens up new research avenues in the field of poetry translation and provides innovative perspectives and methods for future practical and theoretical explorations of literary translation. These findings not only enrich our knowledge of translation strategies but also promote a deeper understanding of the application of prose-style translation in the field of literature.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"88 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141378388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

China is also noted for having a large number of English language learners. Still, the majority of them have foreign language speaking anxiety (FLSA) while conveying their ideas verbally in the language. Although scholars and educators have conducted extensive and numerous studies to investigate this issue, particular attention to Chinese college learners’ perspectives on the main causes and effects of speaking anxiety is still needed. Students’ anxiety is a complicated notions that arise from a range of educational, sociocultural, and individual aspects. By synthesizing existing literature, this paper provides a comprehensive insight into the effects of FLSA, especially focusing on Chinese college learners for improving academic performance and students’ well-being. This study provides valuable insights for future research on designing effective interventions and support systems to mitigate speaking anxiety among Chinese college students, thereby contributing to their holistic development and academic learning.","PeriodicalId":294483,"journal":{"name":"Arts, Culture and Language","volume":"101 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141376297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
