Taking content and discourse analysis as a reference, the objective of this article is to analyze the construction of the conservative discourse of the extreme right in relation to the issue of homosexuality, considering Jair Bolsonaro's positions on Twitter during the election years (2018 and 2022) and his government (2019-2022). From the analysis of the tweets, it was possible to understand a little the transversalities and complexities of the construction of a discriminatory and hateful discourse that sought to provoke moral panic in Brazilian society, as a strategy to increase its engagement on social networks and effectiveness in electoral campaigns.","PeriodicalId":294448,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mídia e Cotidiano","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139446647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Drawing on the theoretical framework developed by Patrick Charaudeau (2017), we focus particularly on his insights concerning ethosin political discourse, especially in connection with discursive formation as outlined by Pêcheux (2011). One notable finding presented in this article, among other elements, is the discussion on the \"fight against corruption.\" The semantic effects generated by this rhetorical aim to convey a sense of political change. However, the conditions of discourse production present in Bolsonaro's inauguration speech do not necessarily substantiate this representation of change.","PeriodicalId":294448,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mídia e Cotidiano","volume":"29 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139446299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methodology employed is a natural language processing analysis, aiming to identify themes and perceptions. The controversy emerged after ACM Neto self- identified as “pardo” (mixed race) and appeared with a tan in an interview, raising questions about IBGE criteria. The results reveal a heated debate on Twitter, questioning his representativeness and accusing him of political opportunism. The analysis exposes a public discourse about ACM Neto's sincerity, political stances, and opportunism concerning the racial topic, underscoring the increasing significance of race and ethnicity dimensions in electoral political debates.","PeriodicalId":294448,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mídia e Cotidiano","volume":"3 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139447015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We will use the methodological assumptions of the case study and criticaldiscourse analysis and, as a corpus, we chose pieces of disinformation that focus on allegations of fraud in the electronic ballot boxes published on Twitter (now X) and Telegram (with circulation in other digital and networked environments) and in (supposedly) journalistic companies such as Jovem Pan, during the first and second rounds of the presidential elections. We observed the use of six different discursive strategies -some of them also used in journalism -in which the aim is to lend credibility to misleading and fabricated content.","PeriodicalId":294448,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mídia e Cotidiano","volume":"51 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139447132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This transformation is caused, I claim, by a process of normalisation, an accommodation to the, sometimes also extreme-right, agenda of formerly right-wing populist parties such as the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ). The election campaign of both the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) and the FPÖ focussed primarily on migration and refugee politics, based on a politics of fear and resentment. After first attempting to define the phenomenon of right-wing populism, I trace how tabooed and extreme right contents slowly became acceptable, as soon as the ÖVP shamelessly integrated some (not all) aspects of the FPÖ’s election program.","PeriodicalId":294448,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mídia e Cotidiano","volume":"57 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139447234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite their internal differences, Brazilian evangelicals form an important political force, thanks to efforts that have lasted decades. However, little has been studied about its internet ecosystem and its role in reproducing divisive political positions. We identified evangelical websites shared by influencers on Facebook between April and October 2021, complementing the database with other previously known websites found on the platform. We evaluate these sites according to the typology constructed and present an analysis of the political narratives commonly supported by them. We demonstrate that these sites often reinforce an imaginary permeated by a political- cultural war waged against Christians, whose identity is redesigned by the threat of widespread persecution and the collapse of their values.","PeriodicalId":294448,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mídia e Cotidiano","volume":"26 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139446914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Produced by “Brasil Paralelo”, the audiovisual work was intends to “prove” the fasehood of the environmental cause. More than misinforming, it organizes beliefs, ideas and discourses of the anti-environmentalist agenda in Brazil, offering an ideological ammunition for the dismantling of environmental protection and the advance of extractivism. Although the movie presents itself as a defense of “the Indians” [sic] and the national sovereignty, Smoke Screen bases itself on an inherently colonial rationality, which reduces the environment to resources to be claimed and indigenous peoples to subjects who need “to evolve” and “to progress” as \"us\".","PeriodicalId":294448,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mídia e Cotidiano","volume":"32 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139446193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
