Thus, building pedestrian areas becomes one of priorities in developmental program of city. In order to ensure the success of program, social media is used to communicate development and maintenance program of pedestrian areas to people. However, local government of Bekasi seemed failing to relay those messages to people. Thus the present research aims to analyze how Bekasi government used social media to relay development and maintenance news related to pedestrian areas in Bekasi. The present research used a descriptive qualitative method through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data reduction and triangulation were conducted using Nvivo 12 software. The latter was used to perform data coding and form main categories using theories and concepts. The results show social media accounts such as Facebook and Instagram have been used to communicate their programs such as initial development of pedestrian areas, development process, and maintenance to people. However, their usage was not maximized as Bekasi’ government was considered less responsive when answering questions regarding pedestrian areas. This led to a speculation that social media is only used as a ‘smoke and screen’ for government’s events. The present research recommends Bekasi’ government to commit in renewing their messages continually and answering questions quickly as people will think their government as more communicative and caring people when the responses are given quickly.","PeriodicalId":294098,"journal":{"name":"Procedings of the 1st ICA Regional Conference, ICA 2019, October 16-17 2019, Bali, Indonesia","volume":"447 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134312208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The geographical position is the opposite of that in Southeast Asia. However, the number of similarities between the two countries does not necessarily make the relations between the two harmonious. After the 2000s, Indonesia-Malaysia relations often underwent ups and downs. The problem of territorial disputes, cultural claims, migrant workers, as well as the fog due to forest and land fires illustrates the ups and downs of the relations between them. The mass media that have often reported on Indonesia-Malaysia relations included institutions which influenced the perception of the society on Indonesia-Malaysia relations. How the society gives meaning to the relation between the two countries will depend on the integrity of the facts told by the media. This paper attempts to discuss how the media carry out the process of verifying facts in reporting the polemic of the Malaysian national anthem and the song Terang Boelan. This study employed a qualitative analysis using visual social semiotics. The findings of this research show that the Indonesian mass media, in this case, Metro TV and Kompas.Com, still have to put harder attempt to fully present what has happened regarding the polemic between the two songs.","PeriodicalId":294098,"journal":{"name":"Procedings of the 1st ICA Regional Conference, ICA 2019, October 16-17 2019, Bali, Indonesia","volume":"5 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124994174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the contemporary Indonesia, the advancement of information technology has enabled the propagation of intolerant values, specifically among youth. As an internet-based social media platform, facebook plays an important role in the circulation of intolerant values. This research will focus on how intolerance-related facebook contents shape intolerant attitudes of the youth in Desa Ciasmara, Bogor. The random sampling method as well as ethnography (in-depth interview) were utilized to measure to what extent intolerance has been practiced by the youth of Desa Ciasmara. The radio broadcasting industry has developed, including the private, public, community and subscription broadcasters. Coupled with the era of the rise of the internet and digital revolution, it results in a variety of significant changes in the radio broadcasting industry. For example, changes in broadcasting technology innovation, broadcasting regulation, globalization, listeners’ desires, and etc. At that time, the radio industry in Indonesia was developing and building itself into a media suitable and decent for listeners in the midst of the intense competition with television. When the radio industry was still developing and pushing themselves to exist, they were confronted with the presence of new media and the inevitable digitalization. In this case, the radio industry as a senior media has homework for its management organizations to prepare for these changes. One of the things that must be faced by the radio management is media convergence. It involves the convergence of technology, functions, and the industry structure itself. In Jakarta, there was a radio broadcasting media which strives to exist in the current era of convergence named Bravos Digital Radio Jakarta. In their broadcasting activities, they combined internet technology to broadcast their superior programs. They chose to continue to exist in the current digital era by performing specific strategies determined by their management. This study aims to explain the strategies performed by the management of Bravos Digital Radio in facing the convergence era. This study was done in a qualitative manner with a case study of Bravos Digital Radio which used a strategy to incorporate internet technology into their broadcast activities. Innovation diffusion theory were used to elaborate the case. The theory could help explaining the Bravos Digital Radio management's readiness in facing the digital era and the strategies taken by the radio management. The primary data was obtained through observation, in-depth interviews with the management of Bravos Digital Radio Jakarta, and related literature studies.","PeriodicalId":294098,"journal":{"name":"Procedings of the 1st ICA Regional Conference, ICA 2019, October 16-17 2019, Bali, Indonesia","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132454807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Politeness is a norm in society that functions to maintain harmony between individuals in the society. Currently, the development of information and communication technology enables a shift in social interaction from direct human interaction to online interaction through a media, like social media. Without politeness, there will be a chaos, and one of which that appears more often nowadays is cyberbullying. The politeness phenomenon in this online interaction can be seen from the interactions that occur in social media, with Instagram as one of the platforms that increasingly more popular recently. In the context of the use of social media, it appears that the number of female users is higher than men. Not only in term of the number of the user, women also be found as more crowded in social media than men. This study aims to explore how politeness representation, specifically relates to Face Threatening Acts (FTA) in online interactions among female users of Instagram accounts. The politeness theory by Penelope Brown and Stephen Levinson is used as a basis for dissecting the phenomenon that is being studied. Politeness theory explains how small variations in the way we say something are related to the wider features of social relations and social contexts. This helps us understand how individuals create and interpret messages and also offer accounts for the use of the language of the speaking community. In this matter, the term positive face and negative face established, which lead to FTA. Politeness theory consists of various strategies for committing FTA which are Bald-on-record strategies and Off-record strategies. It is a descriptive qualitative study about FTA in online interaction, particularly between women Instagram users. It is a literature study that is hoped can enrich the conceptual study about politeness in online interaction using social media. The data collection techniques in this study is document studies, with the source of data are reference about the research topic from journal articles or handbook. The expected findings from this study are the presence of FTA patterns on social media, especially among women. The implication of this study is that there are guidelines for further conducting studies that are able to find the background and reasons why female Instagram users apply or not apply the FTA.","PeriodicalId":294098,"journal":{"name":"Procedings of the 1st ICA Regional Conference, ICA 2019, October 16-17 2019, Bali, Indonesia","volume":"242 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121295413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
