The precise SOC estimation confirms the safety and reliability of EV. Nevertheless, SOC is influenced by numerous factors which cannot be measured directly. RFR is suitable for SOC estimation due to its robustness to noise, overfitting issues and capacity to work with huge datasets. However, proper selection of RFR architecture and hyper-parameters combination remains a key issue to be explored. Hence, a differential search algorithm (DSA) is employed to search for the optimal values of trees and leaves in RFR algorithm. DSA optimized RFR eliminates the utilization of the filter in data pre-processing steps and does not require a detailed understanding and knowledge about battery chemistry, rather only needs sensors to monitor battery voltage and current. The developed approach is validated at room temperature using two types of lithium-ion batteries under a pulse discharge test. In addition, the proposed model is verified under varying temperature settings under EV drive cycles. The experimental results demonstrate that the DSA optimized RFR algorithm is superior to other optimized machine learning approaches in achieving a lower error rate which illustrates the suitability of the proposed model in the online battery management system.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129738258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous underfrequency load shedding (UFLS) protection scheme could shed load properly to undergo many N-1 contingencies. However, due to surplus generation capacity, Nangan-Beigan power system was operated under half generation ratings for a long time, and was inclined to trigger consecutive generator tripping N-1-1 contingencies which led to several complete blackouts in Nangan-Beigan power system. To mitigate the negative effects of under half rating operation, system operators sometimes operates single generation unit over 70 percents of rating, but unfortunately such an operation also increases the risk of complete blackout. This paper describes the refinement of generation schedule and UFLS protection scheme for Nangan-Beigan power system that can avoid complete blackout. In addition, the refined UFLS protect scheme is superior in that it can shed load less than the previous one. Moreover, the refinement considers generation schedules that can satisfy not only normal operation but also when Nangan-Beigan power system performs over 70 percents rating operation. Comprehensive computer simulations and practical operating records are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the refinement. The experience gained in the refinement can assist power engineers in designing UFLS protection scheme.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130646295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A set of fuzzy rules are developed for the controller which in turn shift the loads from main feeder to preferred feeder with quality power resolving fault interruption or voltage sags. The voltage and the current control loop generate signal to the fuzzy control block to provide on or off pulse for the switches upon activate fuzzy rules in the interference engine. In this study, a compilation of 30%, 50%, 70%, and 100% fault are created to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy controller towards detecting fault level and transferring power to the desired feeder. It was found that the proposed fuzzy logic controller detects fault and transfer power within 5 ms which is faster and reliable compared to the existing literature.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":" 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132094519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, a significant rise in distributed generation (DG) penetration in the distribution network made the OPF problem a greater computational burden. As a result, the centralized OPF formulation is facing more challenges. In this paper a fully distributed approach has been proposed that utilizes the convergence proper of alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) and split the central OPF problem into small problems of regions. All the regional OPF problems are parallelizable and computationally cheaper than the centralized approach. The non-linear, non-convex AC-OPF problem in this approach uses SDP relaxation to convexify. The proposed approach is tested on the modified IEEE 123 bus system to prove it’s scalability.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128995312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are used as a climbing robot or as industrial grippers allowing the manipulation of flat plates [1] . Recently, this technology has been used with success in the application of electrostatic separation of a mixture containing conductive and insulating particles [2] - [3] . Indeed, an electrostatic force can be created between the electro-adhesive actuator and a conductive or insulating material when a high voltage is applied to the actuator electrodes. However, to achieve the electrostatic separation, the electrostatic force must be controlled so that the conductive particles attach while the insulating material detaches from the surface of the electro-adhesive actuator. Thus, the principle of electrostatic sorting using this technology consists of attaching the metal particles by electro-adhesive force and moving the polymer particles by mechanical vibration or centrifugal forces.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125435384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, the leakage inductance distribution of planar coupled inductors is further studied. The influence of different winding structures on the leakage inductance of coupled inductors is analyzed. An optimized three-end planar coupled inductor is designed for building a low-voltage stress high-frequency DC-DC converter based on the Y-source impedance network, and realized low leakage inductance in order to reduce voltage spikes and oscillations. However, this paper found that the traditional definition of modulation ratio cannot be applied to Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC), because it is derived based on three unacceptable simplifications, and fails to describe the characteristics of modulation signals. Then, a new concept is proposed in this paper: Dynamic Modulation Ratio (DMR). Comparing with the traditional modulation ratio, the value of DRM can dynamically change according to the variation of operating conditions. Thereupon, the widely-used and newly-proposed definitions of modulation ratio are comprehensively studied under various operating conditions. It is concluded that, in the MMC, the traditional definition of modulation ratio is only accurate under a few situations; in contrast, the DRM can accurately reflect the characteristics of modulation signals under all situations. Finally, the analyses and conclusions are verified in the Zhangbei HVDC project in China based on the RT-Lab platform.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128043026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
