The developed model gives the boundaries of protection settings when the system is fed from the onsite generation source only. The mathematical model is developed which can produce the range of settings from the knowledge of system, equipment size and cable length only. In an experiment using real exhaust gas, a biased AC high voltage was applied to the discharge electrode attached on the glass surface intermittently so that the potential was 0 V at the discharge electrode and a at certain positive value on the glass surface. This variation in the potential along the surface generated electric fields that led particles selectively to the glass surface, avoiding their adhesion on discharge electrode. As a result, a PM removal efficiency of 0.64 (1.0 means 100%) was obtained for 42 NL/min of exhaust gas. Numerical simulation was performed to find charged particle trajectories in the PM reactor. The results on particle adhesion area and removal efficiencies obtained agreed with those in the experiment.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123166295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The charging side consists of a push-pull circuit equipped with a three-winding transformer. The primary side of the transformer contains two windings. Thus, the system is able to generate positive and negative high voltage pulses from a relatively low DC voltage supply. This generator is capable of increasing the voltage gain due to the transformer turn ratio. Moreover, the proposed generator increase the voltage gain by the resonance between the leakage inductance of the transformer and the capacitor. Beside of satisfying these purposes, the work concentrates on reducing the circuit elements in comparison with former topologies. Here, a DC voltage and one common capacitor are applied to generate unipolar or bipolar high voltage pulses. The generator operates in the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) which fortify the system efficiency by enabling the generation of full positive and/or negative waves and deduce the conduction losses. Operation intervals of the pulse generator are explained in details and compared with the traditional topologies. Finally, the simulation results will illustrate the superiorities of this topology over the previous models. The experimental verification of the proposed topology is currently underway.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117339185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the interconnected Water and Power Systems (WaPS) stands out, urgently in need of joint and cooperative operation to maximize the economic benefits during normal operating conditions and resilience services during emergencies. The inter-dependency of WaPS is crucial for emergency response to High Impact Low Probability (HILP) incidents, the frequency and intensity of which have been recently on the rise. While contingency analysis is used to assist the system operators in gaining knowledge of the system's static security, such understanding is more challenging to achieve in the case of integrated WaPS. This paper proposes a novel optimization model for under-emergency operation of the integrated WaPS, considering contingencies in both networks. In order to ensure the delivery of water demand, the proposed formulation considers the hydraulic constraints of the water networks, which is naturally a nonlinear model. The proposed nonlinear model is approximated using a piece-wise linearization approach to convert the optimization model into a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) formulation. The proposed analysis is applied to a modified IEEE 24-bus reliability test system that is jointly operated with two commercial-scale water networks. The proposed model is evaluated using various disaster severity levels, revealing significant resilience benefits.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126156532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper is a continuation of the authors’ previous papers, which showed that a facade with asymmetric reflection can be obtained when using only ordinary materials with diffuse reflection. The method consists in the use of horizontal decorative micro-profiles, with dimensions that are easy to achieve technologically. The optimization of the geometry of these profiles is the objective of this paper. For optimization, generalized modeling of light reflection in MATLAB is used, through original scripts. These scripts also automatically generate the mesh necessary for the discretization of the facade, for profiles whose angle is modified for the whole range of technologically feasible values. Based on numerical simulations, an optimal domain is identified, based on which the experimental program of effective measurements of the luminance of the facade is optimized, by using imaging methods.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122805845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As power systems are usually vulnerable to inevitable external and internal noises, it is required to design a proper controller that can return the system to its original state after the source of noise is cleared. Back-stepping controllers have received increased interest due to a number of advantages such as a systematic way of deriving the control law, guaranteed global performance, high robustness, and satisfactory transient characteristics. In this paper, a Nonlinear Backstepping approach is utilized to design a controller that stabilizes a Synchronous Generator connected to an Infinite Bus system by injecting a reactive current. The objectives of this controller are to stabilize the rotor angle and improve the transient stability, and mitigate any oscillation that may occur in the system, such as faults or mechanical disturbances. Therefore, the model considered herein utilizes shunt compensating impedance to represent the amount of reactive current to be injected into the grid in order to meet those objectives. Correspondingly, a third-order model of a constant flux synchronous generator connected to an infinite bus, with reactive power compensating device, is presented. With the goal to maintain the stability of the rotor angle under any circumstances, the controller is designed to incorporate the effect of uncertainties in the model. Simulation results prove that the controller is capable of stabilizing the generator rotor and suppressing transient oscillations that arise under abnormal conditions.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114365589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is assumed that the command control action is received by the EV aggregator with constant delay and the power system experiences uncertain parameters. A novel effective iterative algorithm, direct search, is proposed for the time-delayed system to design the gains of a proportional-integral (PI) controller. The proposed direct search algorithm can find a feasible solution whenever at least one solution lays in the space search. Thus, by choosing a wide space search, we can expect that the PI controller assures the closed-loop stability, theoretically. The proposed approach has low conservative results over the existing approaches. For the uncertain time-delayed system, a robust PI controller is designed, which is resilient against the system uncertainties and time delay. Numerical simulations are carried out to show the merits of the developed controller.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122042628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The developed protection is based on defining a survivability index ΓIMD, which is formulated in terms of the change in power created by a dynamic event experienced by a 3ϕ IMD. The determination of ΓIMD provides an accurate tool to detect, identify, and respond to unsurvivable dynamic events. The efficacy and validity of the survivability-based protection for 3ϕ IMDs are verified through simulation and experimental tests. These tests are conducted for 10hp 3ϕ IMD under various types of dynamic events. The technique is basically used to minimize the peak current stress while maintaining required amount of power flow with soft switching. For optimizing the current stress at different voltage conversion ratio, multi-objective, multi-constraint Jaya algorithm is used. This algorithm basically uses unified current stress as the objective function with mathematical expression of unified power flow is the equality constraint and phase shift boundaries are inequality constraint. This control flow not only provided unique selection criterion for phase shift with minimized current stress but also the phase shift selection considers soft switching performance under all loading conditions. It shows the simulation as well as experimental results on a 1.5 kW designed system. The results are taken with voltage conversion ratio ‘K=V1/NV2’ varying from 1 to 0.28 under different loading condition. From obtained results it is shown that when voltage conversion ratio is K=1, then no extra increment in peak of series inductor current. When K=0.28 there is slightly increment in peak of series inductor current. A detailed Simulink control flow model is shown with its closed loop DSP experimental implementation.
