The use of energy storage with high power and energy densities and fast response time at ports with high power demand equipment such as different types of cranes ( STS, RTG, RMG) and electric trucks as well is one of the main factors for peak reduction and economic benefits. Peak shaving can balance the load demand and facilitate the participation of small power units in generation based on renewable energy resources. In this regard, many approaches are introduced such as energy management strategies, modern technologies, and installing high-tech devices such as Battery Energy Storage (BES), Ultracapacitor (UC), and Flywheel Energy Storage (FES) acting as Energy Storage System (ESS). Therefore, this paper deals with an investigation for an integrated vision and a combination of ESSs application in the ports’ cranes. The statistical results show that the integration of ESSs can provide peak shaving, energy saving, cost reduction and also maximize self-consumption in the green ports.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123861590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed controller consists of combining linearizing feedback control with disturbance observer. Specifically, the feedback controller is designed considering the nominal model with a view to ensure closed-loop stability, while the disturbance observer is employed to compensate for model uncertainties and unknown disturbances. Thus, zero steady-state error is guaranteed under the composite controller. The asymptotic regulation is achieved due to the integral action property characterizing the disturbance observer. However, the integral action can deteriorate the transient response during control saturation, even destroy the closed-loop stability, due to the integrator build-up. This problem is solved in this paper by considering control saturation in the observer design. After mathematical manipulation, it turns out that the composite controller reduces to a dynamic state feedback control plus an anti-windup scheme to mitigate the effect of control saturation during transients. The performance of the proposed controller was verified by simulation tests. The simulation results demonstrated the ability of the proposed controller to achieve good transient and steady-state performances.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124139609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hilbert transform and the support vector machine (SVM) multi-classification method are applied to improve the sensitivity of fault identification and eliminate the interference of the environmental electromagnetic noise. In order to increase the diagnosis accuracy in different applications, the grid search (GS), the genetic algorithm (GA) and the particle swarm algorithm (PSA) are employed for the parameter optimization of the SVM classification prediction model. The technical implication of electrical engineers is increasingly to promote a methodology of development, growth and progress towards the innovations of electrical technologies with the eco-design of the power systems. It has to combine energy saving and rational use of energy with the exigencies of service continuity, energy quality and electrical safety. The methodology of the growth and development of electrical systems with the satisfaction of electrical needs in order to contribute to real progress requires a unitary and coordinated vision of the other non-electrical needs that scales the weights of the various sectors for the global solution without being bullied. This paper assumes as reference the IEEE empirical model that compares with the proposed spherical model of the incident energy emission and classifies the deviations. The suggested new model allows a physical approach to the phenomenon, to identify characteristic parameters as the arc flash intensity, the body surface area. In fact, it analyzes the distribution of the incident energy applying the \"point by point\" method on flat surfaces exposed to arc flash, as a simulation of the human body. Generally, there are different methods to obtain the speed and position of PMSM drive using non-linear control techniques, such as, modal based high-speed method. The present method is using Back Electro-Motive Force (EMF) for the estimation position and speed of the PMSM drive. By using a sigmoid function in place of a signum function, HSSMO exemplifies robustness and reduces the time-delay problem that occurs due to signum function. HSSMO technique is validated its stability by using the Lyapunov Candidate Function (LCF). Simulation results are presented to verify HSSMO method. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically validate and calibrate the microgrid models to maintain the security of power system. However, instead of calibrating the problematic parameters that differ from their true values, the existing model calibration methods normally adjust the selected sensitive parameters. The accuracy of mode calibration results is still in doubt. To solve this problem, a novel parameter calibration method considering problematic parameters was developed in the paper. First, sensitivity and correlation analysis are employed to select the Potentially Problematic Parameters (PPPs), which have large sensitivities and could be stably estimated. Second, the energy distribution of PPPs and model errors are contrasted in frequency-domain to confirm the problematic parameters. Finally, with the application of Hybrid Dynamic Simulation (HDS) based parameter estimation technology, the values of problematic parameters are adjusted. The simulation results demonstrate the outstanding performance in parameter calibration of a real microgrid.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134062996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The discharge electrode was a circular plate with sawtooth spikes. The collection efficiency was analyzed via simulations using three geometric parameters: the outermost diameter of the discharge electrode, the distance between the electrode plates, and the number of spikes. Among the cases considered for the discharge electrode geometry optimization using the Taguchi orthogonal array, the parameter combination with the highest collection efficiency was selected. The simulation result was verified by building electrostatic precipitator geometry before and after its optimization and subsequently measuring its collection efficiencies. The collection efficiency of an ESP with the discharge electrode of the optimal geometry was higher by 15% than that of its reference geometry. It is expected that the collection efficiency of other types of ESP can be maximized using a similar discharge electrode geometry optimization.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132875229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
