Each component block, derived from physical laws, interacts with other blocks according to block connection. In this series paper, detailed combustion modeling is presented among several engine subsystems. In the engine modeling framework, combustion is represented by a spherical flame propagating from the spark plug, and the burn rate is correlated to combustion chamber geometry, laminar flame speed, and turbulence. To accurately predict the burn rate, the quasi-dimensional model requires tuning. The combustion model has been computationally validated in a previous study and will be experimentally validated with real engine test data in the next series paper.","PeriodicalId":289245,"journal":{"name":"Evolutions in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122910212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These power sources have conventionally been controlled by a rule-based algorithm or optimization-based control. Besides these conventional approaches, reinforcement learning-based control algorithms have actively been studied recently. Reinforcement learning, which is one of three machine learning paradigms, has the capability of determining optimal control actions to maximize a vehicle’s fuel economy without the vehicle model nor a priori driving route information. To provide a useful reference to researchers interested in this technology, this article reviews reinforcement learning-based energy management strategies for HEVs with their advantages and disadvantages.","PeriodicalId":289245,"journal":{"name":"Evolutions in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133716037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance, different concepts and approaches for measuring interpass temperature are introduced and discussed. The advantages and setbacks of IR pyrometry in comparison with other techniques are presented. Based on experimental results and by using potential solutions for emissivity determination and mitigation of interferences from arc/pool radiations, it is shown that IR pyrometry can be considered as a feasible technique for non-contact interpass temperature measurement with high spatial resolution (small spot size), with promising potentials towards control implementation.","PeriodicalId":289245,"journal":{"name":"Evolutions in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131100906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lower control arm is subjected to various loads. Due to this type of loading, there are chances of bending of control arm. Hence failure of lower control arm occurs. Weight reduction of vehicle component is one of the main concerns. The aim of the paper is to analyze and optimize the lower arm using finite element analysis. The model of lower control arm is done in CAD software. Static analysis of lower control arm is carried out in analysis software. Topology optimization of lower arm is performed for weight reduction. After topology optimization static analysis of optimized lower control arm is carried out. Results obtained from analysis where studied to check whether the design is within the yield strength. Cost analysis of existing and optimized lower control arm has been carried out to know the cost effectiveness. The purpose of automobile suspension system is passenger comfort and vehicle control. The lower control is one of the important parts of suspension system.","PeriodicalId":289245,"journal":{"name":"Evolutions in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126354564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A suitable configuration of hybrid power train should not only meet the requirements of vehicle kinematics and dynamics, but also meet the requirement of fuel economy and emission. For this purpose, a hybrid power train system should contain multiple power sources so that the speed and torque of the power sources can be properly distributed to achieve high system efficiency. To achieve optimal distribution of speed and torque, the system should have more speed DOF and torque DOF. Therefore, the hybrid power train system can be analyzed based on the viewpoint of degrees of freedom.","PeriodicalId":289245,"journal":{"name":"Evolutions in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"46 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133138465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First proposed around 1930, FPEs were in use in the period 1930-1960 as air compressors and gas generators and provided some advantages over presenttime conventional combustion engines and gas turbine systems[2]. They are known to have a greater thermal efficiency (40-50%) than an equivalent and more conventional reciprocating engine (30-40%)[3]. A driving force behind the interest in free-piston engine generators is the automotive industry’s increasing interest in hybrid-electric vehicle technology. Much work has been undertaken by number of research groups worldwide, including the authors’ group, to explore the operation characteristics of FPEs[4,5].After initial investigations and development of freepiston related products during the early to mid-20th century, recent advances in control and real time actuation systems have enabled the technology to become a viable alternative to reciprocating technologies, and as such, research is now being carried out by number of groups worldwide [3,6-9]. Modern applications of the FPE concept have been proposed for the generation of electric and hydraulic power, typically in hybrid electric vehicles[10-15]. Known FPE applications include electric generators, hydraulic pumps and air compressors[2], which are summarised in the Table 1 below. Boudiaf","doi":"10.31031/eme.2018.01.000501","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31031/eme.2018.01.000501","url":null,"abstract":"Civilization is the advanced social development that is believed to owe its origin to human interaction in cities. But cities do not always have a civilizing effect. In history, the size of a population has corresponded to the availability of resources, particularly food and water. Ever since the Age of Agriculture, the stability of food supplies and the relative security of group settlements have decreased mortality rate and increased fertility. The consequent increased demand leads to exploitation of resources, which invariably exceeds the accessible supply. As a result, a cyclical population decline occurs, through starvation, disease, social and economic declination, migration and war (Facing The Future: People and the Planet 1997). Historical examples abound: recurring famines, the Black Death, colonization, the two World Wars. As cities have historically been a place of gathering, of diversity and culture, trends in city planning are redefining the structure of cities into segregated zones separating the haves and the have-nots. Classified by political theorist Michael Walzer as “single-minded” spaces, most metropolises today comprise distinct business districts, industrial zones, shopping arcades, uptown residences, and lower class or racial ghettos. In contrast to “open-minded” spaces that interweave multiple functions for the masses, single-minded spaces, along with automobile dependency, promote social isolationism, in which city residents tend to minimize interaction with and within the city and the diversity thereof. In addition, the decentralization of megacities to a greater urban sprawl spring a number of design issues, including the harmonization of new business districts, mix-income residences, and land allocation for green areas. At present, urban development continues to follow the piecemeal approach, where districts are designed as an isolated project. Furthermore, infrastructure such as roads and public transportation must be considered with the environment and population density. In most of the countries (since the industrial revolution for some European countries) and in the beginning of the 1960’s in South America and Africa, it had been noticed a huge and unexpected migration from the rural to the urban areas. The attraction and migration to the urban areas can be explained by the search for a diversified environment (different ethnics, multitude of activities) offering many opportunities (in terms of jobs, leisure, health, communication, etc.) with the hope to change the social status, offer a better education to their progenitor. Certainly, this attraction has some positive aspects (amenities offered, well-being, increase of knowledge, etc.) but it has also some negative aspects from the environmental and psychological (anonymity, noise, aggression, vandalism, pollution, robbery, crimes, etc.). These negatives aspects led to a social and physical segregation of the city, usually the areas with a high-rise buildings or o","PeriodicalId":289245,"journal":{"name":"Evolutions in Mechanical Engineering","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127991702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
