The study of genre specificity of fiction works of modern literature is important in connection with the actualization of domestic genres of mass literature. The name of saga genre is actively used by creators of women’s novels, in particular by E. Kolina. It seems necessary to examine the transformation of the attributes of the saga genre in the context of such novels. \u0000Purpose. The article reveals the specificity of the family saga genre in E. Kolina’s novel The Saga of the Poor Goldmans. \u0000Materials and methods. The material is a novel by E. Kolina The Saga of the Poor Goldmans (2007). In the framework of the family saga genre the analysis of the novel by E. Kolina was based on the method of narrative and theoretical analysis which was completed with the methods of psychoanalytic approach to the understanding of the main character’s specificity. \u0000Results. The analysis of E. Kolina’s work showed the specifics of the saga genre in the novel The Saga of the Poor Goldmans. It was pointed out that E. Kolina’s saga does not always realize the traditional features of the genre, namely, historicism and equality of moral values in choosing characters’ life guidelines. It is shown that the image of home and family in the novel does not correspond to the principles of the genre, as home and family in the novel of E. Kolina’s novel no longer symbolizes the ancestral nest and strong family ties. The representation of the actual and retrospective image of the family in the novel is described. The motif of growing up in the novel is presented as the main one in highlighting the theme of childhood, realized in the motif of getting rid of teenage complexes based on envy of one sister to another. \u0000Practical implications. The author studied the basis development of philosophic ideas in the period of the ancient philosophy applied to idealistic conception of world understanding the definition of beauty. \u0000Materials for research are based on works of ancient philosophers and scientific publications on the topic of research as well. \u0000The method of research is a comparative analysis that allows synthesizing theoretical and conceptual basis of definitions; the interpreting method of scientific and fiction philosophy works; synthesis method and analogy of receiving data for systematization and definition patterns of world view ancient philosophers positions’ conceptual basis. \u0000Results. The definition of beauty is examined consequently with words “soul”, “body”, “good’, so, it is morally oriented in the ancient philosophers’ work. It is used with strong relationship with idea about beauty in surrounding material and spiritual world. The conception of beauty was analyzed and generalized in the ancient philosophers’ treatises and arguments. The author evaluated aesthetics aspect of the idealistic conception of beauty. \u0000The period under consideration characterized by rising and formation of anthropological aesthetics replaced cosmological theory and made a great impact on the definition of beauty in nature and art. The author examined idealistic and subjective approach to the definition of beauty. The conclusion is that ancient philosophers enrich the definition of beauty in art and nature, focusing their statements on subjective side of the relationship between a person and surrounding world. {"title":"DISCOURSE MARKERS IN THE STRUCTURE OF MEDIATION DISCOURSE","authors":"O. The purpose of this article is to describe the peculiarities of functioning discourse markers in the institutional format of mediation discourse. \u0000Methodology. General scientific methods and specific linguistic methods (contextual analysis, continuous sampling method, pragmatic analysis of discourse) were used in this research. \u0000Results. This study deals with discourse markers as a tool of mediation discourse structuring. Particular attention is paid to the specificity of using certain groups of discourse markers at different stages of the interaction of the conflicting parties. Destructive and constructive fragments are distinguished in mediation discourse. The functional potential of discourse markers at the conflict stage of mediation is represented by evaluation markers with negative connotations and markers of interrupting dialogue. The constructive stage is characterized by the use of positive evaluation markers, markers of desemantised evaluation and etiquette indicators of the end of the dialogue. The research shows that the variety of discourse markers in the speech of parties in conflict serves as a trigger for a gradual, as a rule, positive transformation of the disputing participants in the mediation continuum. \u0000Practical Implications. On the material of the Russian machine translation of an informational brochure, potential difficulties were identified. The author points out the mistakes in machine translation and offers ways to solve them. A particular attention is paid to the translation of special terminology of the psychological semantic field. \u0000Background. Machine translation programs are often used as a way of getting texts translation. On the one hand, it is an available inexpensive way to get a quick translation. On the other hand, there is no guarantee of translation adequacy. The basis of quality translation analysis was a machine translation of scientific text. \u0000Purpose. On the basis of the text made by the machine translation program some mistakes are revealed and analyzed, some ways to solve them are offered. Special attention is paid to the translation of terms in the field of psychology. \u0000Materials and methods. The research material was a machine translation of the brochure “Anxiety Disorders in Children” written by the American Anxiety Disorders Association (the translation is from English into Russian). The translation was made with the help of the online program Google Translator. \u0000Results. Scientific texts on psychology have become popular in the world, but as the analysis showed, their translation is still difficult for online translation programs. Machine translation is not the way to get an equivalent text, but it does make the translation process easier. At the same time, an interpreter should spend time on further text editing. One type of mistakes is connected with the translation of terms. The article is devoted to the analysis of intuitively similar, but different in content concepts related to sports activities and underlying ethical principles. The purpose of the article is a semantic analysis of the concepts of “competitiveness” and “agonality”. The material for the study was scientific and methodological publications on the topic of the study, available in the public domain. The lexico-semantic method was used in the analysis of the material. The results of the study showed that these concepts differ significantly from each other. Thus, competitiveness defines the essence of sport as, first of all, competitive activity, and ensures the achievement of the maximum possible sports results. Competitiveness can be considered as a principle of organization of competitive activity, providing for equality of starting opportunities of competitors. Agonality is understood as a competition organized according to certain rules, based on one’s own worldview, realizing a competitive desire in a person and having a non-gaming character. It is the latter that makes this concept not applicable to the characteristics of modern sports, one of the characteristics of which is entertainment. To determine the criteria for selecting texts for teaching translation within the framework of didactic principles developed by Ch. Nord. \u0000Materials and methods. The main research methods are the analysis of the scientific literature of Russian and foreign scientists on the problem, the theoretical analysis of works on the issues under study, observation, analysis of texts and generalization of experience. \u0000Research results. In the course of the study, based on their own translation experience and based on the didactic principles of K. Nord, the criteria for selecting educational texts for translation were determined, including pragmatic, conventional, linguistic, and normative problems. \u0000Practical implications. The traditions existing in Russian lexicography on the representation of the emerging nomenclature of terms can also be projected into the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation. However, at the present stage, the corpus of special words showing certain aspects of education reform has not been reflected in the dictionaries of the Russian language and requires further research. This includes a wide range of new terms, as well as those related to the documentation support of the unified state exam, as well as the procedure for its conduct. \u0000Background. A significant number of neologisms that have entered the field of education in recent years require reflection in special dictionaries of the Russian and Ossetian languages, since this terminology is used in the professional activities of a large number of people, and its significant part is used in the educational activities of the young, being a social group. \u0000Purpose. Analysis and classification of the nomenclature of terms related to the field of education, to the procedure for organizing and conducting the unified state exam, for their inclusion in special and bilingual dictionaries. \u0000Materials and methods. The material for the study was regulatory legal acts concerning the procedures governing the organization and conduct of the unified state exam. The main research methods are content analysis and continuous sampling. \u0000Results. The nomenclature of terms covering a significant part of society is determined for inclusion in both dictionaries and national corpus of the Russian and Ossetian languages. The thematic classification of special vocabulary is carried out taking into account the logical and semantic connections and the technological process of the state final certification. \u0000Practical implications. In the changing extra-linguistic reality, there is a need to rethink existing lexical units, and therefore the constant maintenance of new words requires nomination in the language system. \u0000Purpose. The purpose of the study is a theoretical and practical substantiation of entering and functioning of neologisms in modern English. \u0000Materials and methods. The practical material for the study was the texts of Internet periodical publications, data from bilingual and explanatory dictionaries. To achieve the research goal, the following methods of scientific research were used: analysis of scientific literature, continuous sampling method, method dictionary definition, descriptive method. \u0000Results. The study is determined neologisms origin as well as the way they reinvigorate language. It was determined that over time many new words have entered common use due to developments in social and political life, science and culture. Most of the neologisms appear in those spheres of social life that are experiencing the strongest rise in media reality. At the same time, the ways of forming new words and the ways of their semantic content are already subject to the internal laws of language development. It can be concluded that the main reason for entering common use of neologisms is to satisfy the social and communicative needs. \u0000Practical implications. The results of the study can be used in the further study of the neologisms. The research material was the original text of the Holy Quran, namely the metaphor “Waalssubhi itha tanaffasa”, and its translations into English (M.M. Pickthall, A.Y. Ali) and Russian (Abu-Adel, E.R. Kulieva). The methods of scientific research are the method of theoretical analysis, descriptive and comparative methods. \u0000The result of the study is the classification of translations of the Quranic metaphor “Waalssubhi itha tanaffasa” into Russian (Abu-Adel, E.R. Kuliyev) and English (M.M. Pickthall, A.Y. Ali). The basis of the classification is the methods of translation of P. Newmark’s metaphor, used by the authors in the process of translating the text under study into English / Russian. \u0000Practical implications. Its subjects, key functions and concepts were considered. The grounds for discourse typology were identified. The relevance of the study is explained by the fact that the communicative environment of German entertainment discourse is little researched, and the need for a more detailed analyzing of its constitutive features and strategies. \u0000Purpose of this study is to describe lexico-semantic and syntactic means, verbs of various types, used to implement the attention strategy in German entertainment discourse. \u0000Materials and methods. The material of this study was the “star” interviews texts posted on the websites of the German publications “Der Spiegel” and “Die Zeit”. The methods of continuous sampling and generalization, as well as the method of semantic analysis, were used in the work. \u0000Results. The entertainment attraction, their ability to diversify people’s lives, contributed to the modification, modernization and continuity of many traditions and customs. The paper deals with the types and genres of entertaining discourse, its subjects, and the originality of communicants’ conversation. It is emphasized that one of the most frequent strategies used by participants in the entertainment discourse is the attention strategy.
