As this change takes place, it is important to understand the potential impacts of EVs on the distribution grid. There must be a plan for grid flexibility quickly given the additional grid costs and concerns about how these costs can be reduced. Previous estimates are based on inconsistent surveys or consist of small, non-representative samples of households with electric vehicle meters. In this study, a scaled estimation of electric vehicle home charging in Turkey is presented. Fixed effects methods are used for panel data to estimate the effects of electric vehicle adoption on electric load. The average electric vehicle increases the overall household load by 3.1 kWh per day (the majority is concentrated during the night-time hours), well below the amount assumed by network regulators. With the results implying that electric vehicles travel less than expected on electric power, the issue of how to integrate electric vehicles into the energy system is a major concern as their uncontrolled charging could adversely affect the functioning of distribution grids.","PeriodicalId":288300,"journal":{"name":"2023 5th Global Power, Energy and Communication Conference (GPECOM)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115733918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Harmonics are essentially sinusoidal signals at frequencies that are multiples of the fundamental frequency, and they can occur when nonlinear loads such as variable speed drives, electronic ballasts, and computer power supplies are connected to the grid. The integration of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems into the electrical grid has led to an increase in harmonic distortion, which can affect the stability and reliability of the grid. In this paper, we use ETAP software to analyze the impact of large-scale PV integration on the harmonic distortion in the grid. A model of the PV system is created in ETAP, and a harmonic analysis is performed to determine the harmonic content of the system. The results show that the large-scale PV system generates significant levels of harmonic distortion. To mitigate the impact of the harmonics generated by the PV system, various mitigation techniques are analyzed. Passive filters were sized, implemented in the electrical network, and tested using ETAP as well as capacitor banks to mitigate the resonance impact.","PeriodicalId":288300,"journal":{"name":"2023 5th Global Power, Energy and Communication Conference (GPECOM)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122062409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper presents a technique for the optimization of the leakage reactance of a transformer with multiple windings on the high-voltage side using the finite element method. The analysis of the influence of the number of sections on the leakage reactance on the transformer was performed based on a three-dimensional model of the transformer. Yet, there is no consensus in the set of metrics to evaluate resilience. Hence, this paper presents a comprehensive and unified resilience analysis framework based on the operational performance of the distribution feeders. A set of resilience sub-metrics are proposed with each one capturing a specific aspect of resilience like worst performance, resistivity to disruptions, recovery rapidity and accumulated loss. Moreover, a unified resilience metric is devised including all the sub-metrics to provide an integrated assessment of resilience for the distribution system. The proposed framework is tested on an 85-bus distribution feeder (Feeder-85) to assess its resilience towards adverse weather events. The original feeder is then provided with various reinforcements and their contribution to the feeder’s resilience is evaluated. The results clearly indicate capability of the proposed metrics to quantify power system resilience and provide directions for optimally reinforcing the system against adverse weather events.","PeriodicalId":288300,"journal":{"name":"2023 5th Global Power, Energy and Communication Conference (GPECOM)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114222161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this paper is to propose an EMS to effectively regulate the energy flow from the energy sources, minimize the fuel consumption, and ensure the propulsion power of the vehicle under complex driving conditions. The proposed EMS is based on fuzzy logic control (FLC), which generates the reference power of the PEM fuel cell for each level of Li-ion battery state of charge and the required vehicle power. Three standard driving cycles, namely the New York City cycle (NYCC), the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), and the Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule (UDDS), were implemented to validate the proposed EMS. The conventional model predictive control strategy suffers from distorted input current and polluted power. Thus, a high sampling frequency is necessary to satisfy the utilization standards. However, the selection of a high sampling period demands significant computation power. Motivated by the drawbacks of the traditional model predictive control strategy, the modulation stage is added to the control loop and releases the trade-off between high sampling frequency requirement and total harmonic distortion to achieve good current quality. Fully benefits from the advantages of predictive model control, such as ease of implementation and high-speed dynamic response, are exploited while ensuring an acceptable power quality on a lower sampling frequency. The theoretical framework to support evidence-based practice is comprehensively explained. The proposed closed-loop design methodology is analytically revealed, and critical aspects of the proposed method are discussed. Numerous simulations work, including steady-state and transient operations, are performed to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method by comparing it with the traditional model predictive approach. Finally, experimental validation is conducted to prove the feasibility of the proposed modulated predictive control method in real time.","PeriodicalId":288300,"journal":{"name":"2023 5th Global Power, Energy and Communication Conference (GPECOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132473904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the intricacy of selecting the appropriate values for the design parameters and location presents a challenge when integrating CSP-PT DG. Further, insufficient efforts were made in CSP DGs that consider both financial aspects and system improvements. Thus, this study utilized Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II), a multi-objective evolutionary approach, in identifying optimal parameters and integration site for CSP-PT DG with and without TES in the IEEE 37-bus system, minimizing the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) and system losses. Precisely matching plant parameters and the location of the DG improves system performance and determines economic viability. Lower LCOE and fewer system losses are achieved in the system with TES at the expense of higher installed costs.","PeriodicalId":288300,"journal":{"name":"2023 5th Global Power, Energy and Communication Conference (GPECOM)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134266473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
