This study aimed at developing computer-based interactive self-learning modules (SLM) or programmed text materials on major functions of development management such as leadership, motivation, team development and stress management; validating them and assessing the impact of the modules in enhancing the managerial skills of extension professionals. These modules were evaluated and assessed for effectiveness with the help of 25 extension professionals drawn from various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs). An instrument to evaluate the effectiveness of suitability of the programmed text was developed and content validated with the help of experts. Data were collected from 25 extension professionals in respect of effectiveness of the contents, perceived utility, and usefulness of programmed text in comparison to ‘conventional text’. The extension professionals perceived the overall contents of the programmed text as having a high level of effectiveness with an overall average score level of 4.06. Perceived study of programmed text was also studied and it was found that the usefulness ‘to improve professional competency'received the highest level of overall average score of 3.92. Adequacy and appropriateness of sequencing of contents of the text’ received the maximum overall average score level of 4.17.","PeriodicalId":286963,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Communication","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124704481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted in five villages of Tarapur Block of Munger District of Bihar, India. The villages were denoted by V1, V2, V3, V4 and V5 of a given district and as many as 30 farmers, 10 each from marginal, small and large farmers categories called groups, were selected from each village randomly and were represented by G1, G2 and G3 of a given village, respectively. The 30 farmers forming the experiment group in the villages were trained to seek the information/message and were closely monitored while under exposure through e-extension. On the other hand, under e-based Management of Agricultural Technology (e-MAT) treatment, the group was exposed to the technology packages through e-extension well mixed with all the three extension methods. Lectures, visit, pamphlets, charts, banners, specimens, etc., which were commonly used with the first three methods were also used with all the five methods in this experiment for consecutive two years. As a result, it was seen that e-MAT is an effective extension method. There were significant differences in the mean knowledge scores, attitude scores and adoption quotient of trained and untrained farmers about the package of practices of high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice. The trained farmers had significantly higher knowledge scores, attitude scores and adoption quotient about the package of practices of high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice than untrained farmers.","PeriodicalId":286963,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Communication","volume":"16a 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128186975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internet-enabled mobile phones have applications for various usages. A large part of these applications is being developed and marketed with an eye on the young generation as a customer and user. Technology also has two sides to it-a positive and negative side-and it is true for mobile applications also. Thus, an effort has been made to study the utilisation pattern of mobile applications by the students. A survey was conducted with 200 students, consisting of 150 undergraduates and 50 postgraduates, of Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University. Self-developed questionnaire was used to collect data, which were then analysed by using frequency, percentage, mean and z test. Findings show that all the students were using either one or more mobile applications. Students have accounts with WhatsApp, Hike, Instagram, WeChat, Line, Telegram and IMO; they showed a clear preference for WhatsApp and Hike. They were using these applications for various purposes like chatting, calling, entertainment, sharing notes, picture and videos. Although these applications helped students in group studies, getting new information, sharing notes, and so on, they also reported some negative effects such as health problems, loss of concentration during lectures, distractions in completing assignments, waste of money, misuse of photos, videos and documents and phone number, and even addiction and depression. Overall, these applications affected students positively as well as negatively.","PeriodicalId":286963,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Communication","volume":"751 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132480455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Women's empowerment is not only about their economic betterment and reduction in dependency but also about gaining greater control over lives and claiming the rights and entitlement for them. Hence, a study was undertaken with the objective to find out the contribution of factors towards the women empowerment by participating in different income-generating activities. The study was carried out in the Bogra District, which is located in the north-west part of Bangladesh. Four hundred thirty-seven women who are the beneficiaries of Gram Unnayan Karma (GUK) were selected for data collection from seven unions under the Upazila, namely, Sariakandi and Gabtoli from this district. A pre-tested interview schedule was used to collect the data from the respondents from December 2014 to April 2015. Out of four dimensions in relation to women empowerment, economic access of the women is the highest in position with lower access into political dimension. Data indicated that the majority of the respondents (64.76%) were in the medium empowerment category, whereas 18.76% and 16.48% of them were in the low and high empowerment categories, respectively. The Pearson correlation test depicted that out of 20 variables, 11 had significant positive and one had negative relationship with the empowerment. Result of stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that eight variables, namely, knowledge (KNG), attitude towards GUK (ATG), cosmopoliteness (COS), fatalism (FAT), duration with GUK (DWG), income (INC), education (ED) and training (TR) contributed significantly, which as a combination explained 68.56% of the total variation to women empowerment. Path analysis indicated that these eight variables had both direct and indirect effects on empowerment. Beneficiaries of GUK women who had more KNG, had positive attitude towards the GUK/NGOs, were more cosmopolite, educated, had training (TR) experiences, had high income and were for a long time with NGO were found to be highly empowered in the society.","PeriodicalId":286963,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Communication","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129981231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
