Images from an object are taken under different viewing angles in a synchronized way by the camera and processed in order to allow the reconstruction of object shape in a very simple way. It works well for convex objects. Extensions to other complex objects are being studied.","PeriodicalId":286814,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Reports have shown that a great deal of the crashes at intersections and head-on collisions could be avoided if the driver had an additional half-second to react, and that inattentive drivers are the cause of most crashes. Therefore, this is an interesting field for the investigation of computer vision techniques. Within this context we are concerned with the automatic detection and classification of traffic signs in images acquired from a moving car. In order to reduce the amount of information to process, we employed a bottom-up visual attention mechanism to locate only the most promising points within each frame. Given a set of interest points, another module tries to match previously learnt traffic sign models against image regions centred on these points via a neural network approach. This paper focuses on the design aspects and preliminary results of the attention mechanism.","PeriodicalId":286814,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. This kind of distortion represents intrapersonal variability. This paper reports interpersonal and intrapersonal variability influences in a software approach based on a hidden Markov model (HMM) classifier. The experiments have shown error rate variability considering different forgery types, random, simple and skilled. The mathematical approach and resulting software also report considerations in a real application problem.","PeriodicalId":286814,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The main application is to eliminate points that are not structured on surfaces. Points classified as organized can be the input for other processes. An accumulation process infers the organization of each input element. The tensorial fields used in our method act as three-dimensional structuring elements. They define normal orientations in space indicating possible surface continuations.","PeriodicalId":286814,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Speckle removal provides a better interpretability of SAR images if the technique performs the filtering without loss of spatial resolution and preserves fine details and edges. This work aims to redefine the neighborhood areas around the noisy pixel and in this area the local mean and variance are computed to estimate the Maximum a Posteriori (MAP) filter parameters. The proposed modified MAP algorithm improves the ability to filter the speckle noise without blurring edges and targets by applying the MAP estimator in the current adaptive window that is controlled by a measure of homogeneity in the area around the noisy pixel. This adaptive windowing was also incorporated to the classical Kuan et al. (1985) and Frost et al. (1982) filters in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The effectiveness in reducing speckle by the modified MAP filter is evaluated in terms of qualitative and quantitative aspects such as line and edge preservation and the improvement of the signal to noise ratio. The tests were performed in real SAR images.","PeriodicalId":286814,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The challenges to collaborative modelling are related mainly to four aspects: user interaction with the virtual modelling environment, 3D object concurrent editing, consistency maintenance among client terminals and real time rendering of the modified 3D objects. The use of Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) surfaces accelerates the rendering process since a small number of control points are used to represent the objects, resulting in a large data compression. Nowadays a number of technologies has either emerged or evolved to support 3D environments, such as: X3D, Java3D and MPEG-4 MU. This paper shows how the emerging MPEG-4 MU standard can be used to support real-time modelling through NURBS in a shared virtual environment among multiple client terminals.","PeriodicalId":286814,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
