Such knowledge is important for improving the current performance of tapes for their use in superconducting applications. The elucidation of the phase equilibria in the ceramic core and especially at the silver interface is vital if high-critical-current density (J/sub c/) tapes are to be manufactured. Transport and structural measurements have been used by carefully controlling and systematically changing the annealing temperature and time, we have been able to ascertain the complex phase equilibria and show future improvement for operation at 77 K.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Confidence in the use of the Internet for business purposes, both business-to-business and business-to-consumer transactions relies on effective authentication and intruder detection processes. Regrettably, the triumph of the Internet design for global information access and sharing is at risk of being tarnished as a ubiquitous open trading environment by unscrupulous and vindictive attacks. Information security is thus the overarching concern of Internet businesses and users! A general security goal is to prevent intrusions. However, no prevention measures can provide adequate security assurance, unless the organization also has an effective strategy for handling intrusion dynamics that include Preparation, Detection and Response. The scope of this paper focuses on the preparation, detection and response phases. The paper also covers, albeit briefly, pre-intrusion planning requirements, hacker perspectives and aims, risk judgements and associated technical methods, such as, foot-printing, scanning, enumeration and then gaining access into the network.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Eigenfaces are applied to extract the relevant information in a face image, which are important for identification. Using this we can represent face pictures with several coefficients (about twenty) instead of having to use the whole picture. Neural networks are used to recognize the face through learning correct classification of the coefficients calculated by the eigenface algorithm. The network is first trained on the pictures from the face database, and then it is used to identify the face pictures given to it. Eight subjects (persons) were used in a database of 80 face images. A recognition accuracy of 95.6% was achieved with vertically oriented frontal views of a human face.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The system consists of an array of independent processing elements and no inter-processor communication overheads. The system may or may not require code fetches for the execution of different tasks. The CHSA receives different tasks with a variable probability distribution over time. The CHSA attempts to increase the average processor utilization of the system, reduce the code fetch time overhead by attempting to cluster similar tasks and reduces power consumption across the system by attempting to keep as many processors as possible unutilized, thereby allowing them to be kept in a low-power mode.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The paper aims at elucidating the requirement for such a tool suite for the current technologically fast paced environment. The structure and constructs of the language, which supports cycle accurate description of DSP, is also explained with the help of examples to give a clear picture of the utility of the language as a generic processor definition language. The C++ like syntax is highlighted and results of the tests that have been run on a simulation of TMS320C4x are also described.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Increasing the data rate by using larger constellations has brought a revolution in digital communication systems. Consequently, there is a need for efficient techniques of implementation of QAM, both in software and the hardware. This article presents an efficient technique for implementation of QAM transmitters for any sampling rate. Moreover, this approach isolates the design of the major blocks of the transmitter from the operating frequency of the digital to analog converter. The computational gain becomes substantial when a certain desirable set of carrier frequency and data rate is encountered. The technique has been implemented. in software and the results are presented. The approach can be generalized for any kind of QAM transmitter.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The objective of this work is to evolve a design based on modeling and simulation of an orbit controller for a satellite orbiting into a circular orbit. This involves a good understanding of the system dynamics. Once a satellite is launched in a desired orbit, it never remains in that ideal orbit. The external forces present in space cause perturbations to this ideal orbit. To bring back the satellite into the desired orbit, on-board thrusters provide in-orbit propulsion. In this work, the altitude of the satellite is controlled by the thrust produced by the on-board thrusters installed in the radial and tangential directions. However, dictated by the controllability requirement, we have analyzed the dynamic system stabilization with the application of two thrusters as well as one thruster. Thus the feedback dynamic control system considers both the two-input and the single-input cases. The model developed is essentially a linearized, normalized and state-space model. The simulation of this model is based on the MATLAB software package. The design thus evolved is used to study the effect of pole-placement on the controlling parameters like settling time, peak time, overshoot, and damping ratio of the closed-loop system. This enables us to make predictions about the stability requirements for any dynamic system of the type considered. The design tool thus developed is applied to a current actual communication satellite design. The design results are compared and recommendations are made.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. IEEE International Multi Topic Conference, 2001. IEEE INMIC 2001. The feedback controls are piece-wise constant and the method relies on the construction of a Lyapunov function. This Lyapunov function is a sum of two semi-positive definite functions, which are determined by using Lie algebraic methods and Frobenius theorem. The constructed Lyapunov function decreases in an average sense.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. IEEE International Multi Topic Conference, 2001. IEEE INMIC 2001. The neural network estimation technique presented by Hussain (2000) is particularly effective when there is no complete plant information, or when considering a controlled plant as a 'black box'. In the proposed composite controller, the neural network estimator weights are adapted online to minimise the identification error, and these weights are fed into a robust self-tuning PID controller which provides an adaptive mechanism to ensure that the closed loop poles are placed at the desired positions. Simulation results show that the proposed method applies to general linear or nonlinear control systems.","PeriodicalId":286459,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
