Song","doi":"10.1109/PESW.2000.847617","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PESW.2000.847617","url":null,"abstract":"The trend toward deregulation has posed more challenging requirements on the traditional scheduling models, e.g. incorporating transmission components in the dynamic economic dispatching (DED) and introducing time-related constraints in optimal power flow (OFF). In this paper, the authors describe an algorithm for the integrated DED/OPF problem. Both time-separated (including full AC network constraints: voltage, angle, reactive power and branch flow etc.) and time-related constraints are considered and combined in a single optimization problem which is solved by a direct nonlinear interior point method (IPM). A border blocked system is derived and further decomposed into time-separated sub-matrices whose sizes merely rely on network sizes and 4*4 block structure is the same as the node admittance matrices. Hence, the Newton OPF techniques can be fully utilized. The numerical examples that range from 30 to 118 bus system with up to 24 hour periods have shown the proposed method is a very promising optimization tool for the emerging power market.","PeriodicalId":286352,"journal":{"name":"2000 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. A new technique of parallel tabu search is used to deal with one-day ahead prediction of daily maximum loads. This paper focuses on a fuzzy inference approach due to good understanding of the nonlinear behavior of the model. Fuzzy rules help power system operators to explain their experiences and rules in an intuitive sense. In this paper, parallel tabu search is used to globally optimize the number and location of the fuzzy membership functions. It considers two strategies of the neighborhood decomposition and multiple tabu lengths so that computational efficiency and solution accuracy are improved. The proposed method makes use of the simplified fuzzy inference to alleviate computational effort for calculating the fuzzy membership functions of the output variables. To ensure satisfactory area frequency and inter-area tie-line power is one of the main requirements for the LFC. This paper presents a multi-functional fuzzy logic based tie-line bias control (TBC) scheme considering the MWh constraint for the power transmission on the tie-line and the regulation margin. In addition, the real power flow constraint on each trunk line is also taken into account. A detailed nonlinear LFC simulator has been developed in the Matlab/Simulink environment. The expressions are applicable to different electrogeometric models (EGM). They provide the basis on which optimal shielding angle is determined in the design of earthwires. Constrained minimisation of the exposure distance gives the optimal value for shielding angle. The expressions are validated using the published field results. Using the general expressions developed, investigations are carried out to identify the factors on which optimal shielding angle depends and to quantify the degree of dependencies. Voltage sags are one of the most important power quality problems challenging the utility industry. Voltage sags can be compensated for by voltage and power injection into the distribution system. By injecting voltage with a phase advance with respect to the sustained source-side voltage, reactive power can be utilized to help voltage restoration. Hence, the consumption of real power, from the perspective of the energy supply device, can be reduced. This energy-saving voltage injection comes at the expense of an increased voltage injection magnitude, load power swing phase shift and discontinuity of voltage wave-shape. For this reason, several proposed compensation strategies are examined, in term of satisfying custom power while taking into consideration the capacity of the energy-storage device and the voltage injection constraint of the dynamic voltage restorer. These technologies include the design, fabrication, and testing of a SMES model coil, current leads, coil protection systems, AC/DC converters and persistent current switches. In addition, the optimization of SMES systems and the effect of onsite applications were studied. The coil was confirmed to have a high current capacity (40.53 kA), a high level of stability, sufficient mechanical strength, outstanding electric insulation, and low-resistance coil connections. Other important developments include a yttrium-based 20 kA HTS current leads, a SHe flow method to be used as an alternative quench detection system, a snubber energy direct regeneration AC/DC converter system with an efficiency as high as 96.8%, and a persistent current switch with superconducting contacts. Majority of the RAPS systems consist of either single or multiple diesel generators. Efficiencies of such systems however are low due to the variations in the load demands. To improve the system efficiency, hybrid energy systems consist of diesel generator, solar generator, storage battery bank and inverter have been developed. Optimal operation of such systems however depends on the scheduling of the battery charge/discharge cycle and load settings of the diesel generator. This paper proposes a new approach based on fuzzy logic (FL) and genetic algorithm (GA) techniques for the scheduling of the battery and the diesel generator of a RAPS system. Two methods have been developed. One was based on a pure genetic algorithm (PGA) approach, and the other was based on a combined fuzzy-logic and genetic algorithm (FGA) approach. Simulation studies have been carried out with both methods for single and multiple generators connected to a typical RAPS system. The new compensator consists of a three-phase voltage source inverter (to eliminate negative sequence components and adjust the load bus voltages) and a single-phase voltage source inverter (to eliminate zero sequence components). The use of dq phasor transformation control based on instantaneous value and sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) results in a system with fast dynamic response.
