To further pursue this aim, in this study, we compare three different k-means algorithms (including MMk-means) results from an in-vitro microarray data (Le Roch et al., Science, 2003) with the classification from an in-vivo microarray data (Daily et al., Nature, 2007) in other to perform a comparative functional classification of P. falciparum genes and further validate the effectiveness of our MMk-means algorithm. Results from this study indicate that the resulting distribution of the comparison of the three algorithms' in-vitro clusters against the in-vivo clusters are similar thereby authenticating our MMk-means method and its effectiveness. However, Daily et al. claim that the physiological state (the environmental stress response) of P. falciparum in selected malaria-infected patients observed in one of their clusters can not be found in any in-vitro clusters is not true as our analysis reveal many in-vitro clusters representation in this cluster.","PeriodicalId":286158,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology - Spring Conference","volume":"19 25","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132939351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IMD has conscientiously taken observations of the weather, recorded them either manually or automatically, transcribed them onto preset paper forms called autographic charts. Most of the charts are now at risk of being lost due to rapid deterioration of the medium. This paper presents algorithms for automatic extraction and storage of the atmospheric data using image processing tools. The key factors that influence the methods are speed, accuracy and space. Wehave tested the algorithms on scanned images of theautographic charts available at IMD and present the results.","PeriodicalId":286158,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology - Spring Conference","volume":"468 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123049617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After running, the exact execution time of that process would appear. Consequently, for calculating and estimating the execution time of a process before running, many algorithms were introduced. In this paper, a new algorithm with more efficiency is introduced. This algorithm is able to estimate the execution time (next CPU-burst time) of a process based on past behavior by using the intelligent fuzzy system.","PeriodicalId":286158,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology - Spring Conference","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123908861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we have analyzed the contacts between amino acid residues in different folding types of globular proteins and various ranges of folding rates. Based on amino acid contacts a novel parameter, multiple contact index has been developed for understanding protein folding rates. We have computed short, medium and long-range contacts in proteins of different folding types and rates from their sequences and structures. Utilizing the information, we have developed models for recognizing protein folds and predicting their folding rates, using machine learning techniques. Our methods showed an accuracy of 55% for discriminating 1612 globular proteins belonging to 30 different folds and an accuracy of 96% to distinguish the fast and slow folding proteins using 5-fold cross-validation method.","PeriodicalId":286158,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology - Spring Conference","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131054411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, it is very important to control renminbi exchange rates risk via forecasting. This paper describes four alternative renminbi exchange rates forecasting models. These models are based on autocorrelation shell representation and neural networks techniques. An autocorrelation shell representation is used to reconstruct signals after wavelet decomposition. Neural networks are used to infer future renminbi exchange rates from the wavelets feature space. The individual wavelet domain forecasts are recombined by different techniques to form the accurate overall forecast. The proposed models have been tested with the CNY/USD, CNY/EUR, CNY/100JPY and CNY/GBP exchange rates market data. Experimental results show that wavelet prediction scheme has the best forecastingperformance on testing dataset among four models, with regards to the least error values. Therefore, wavelet scheme outperforms the other three models and avoids effectively over-fitting problems.","PeriodicalId":286158,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology - Spring Conference","volume":"12 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122346196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this paper introduces fuzzy techniques, and gives a fuzzy currency options bounds pricing model. By denoting four input variables in the Garman-Kohlhagen model as triangular fuzzy numbers, the currency option price will turn into afuzzy number. In order to construct easily the membership function of this fuzzy number, a triangular fuzzy number is used to approximate it. Then a fuzzy programming procedure is proposed to determine its lower bound and upper bound. Finally, the proposed fuzzy currency options bounds pricing model is tested with the daily market data of the EUR/USD currency option. The empirical study results indicate that the proposed method is a useful tool for modelling the imprecise problems in the foreign exchange derivativemarkets.","PeriodicalId":286158,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology - Spring Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125848867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
