Decision-making abilities, adaptability, and economic performance were recognised as the three main facets of sugarcane grower’s CMB. These dimensions were chosen to represent all behavioural, crisis, and its management components at all levels as well as the effectiveness of crisis management is evaluated using economic performance. The scale items were shaped with the best efforts to accurately reflect the behavioural traits of knowledge, attitude, skills, and confidence as well as the various crisis management activities viz., preparations, mitigations, interventions, and rehabilitation and reconstruction undertaken by sugarcane farmers to deal with crises. The summated rating method with necessary modifications recommended by Likert and Edward has been employed to construct the scale. The ultimate sugarcane grower’s CMB scale was composed of 82 statements, which were divided into three categories according to decision-making ability (11 statements), adaptability (71 statements distributed across 8 sub dimensions), and economic performance (measured using standard formulas). The scale’s reliability and validity are ascertained by administering to 32 farmers in the Mandya district who cultivate sugarcane in 2020–21. Using the split half technique of reliability, it was discovered that the generated CMB scale was extremely dependable, with a reliability score of 0.9195. With a statistical validity coefficient of 0.9589, both the content and statistical validities were extremely valid.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124604455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is now being increasingly realized that instead of targeting the individual in the process of development, it would be more useful to adopt the approach of group development. The group approach makes available the collective wisdom and combined resources for any task. With this background, a critical study of the evaluation of the profile characteristics of the SHGs and Non SHG members was carried out. Hence the present study has been formulated with the objective i.e. to study the profile characteristics of SHG and Non SHG members. The purpose of the study was to compare the SHG and Non SHG members with respect to their profile characteristics. The diagnostic study was confined to 10 villages from which 90 SHGs and 90 Non SHG respondents were selected for the study. The result revealed that the independent sample ‘Z’ test showed that there was significant difference in the mean values of SHG members and Non SHG members in case of education, family size, social participation, land holding, annual income, material possession whereas, there was no significant difference in the mean values of SHG members and Non SHG members in case of age and marital status. SHG and Non SHG members, Self Help Groups, Profile characteristics, Mean value, Significant difference by 15.83 per cent respondents. Technique of light intensity pruning was fully adopted by 62.50 per cent of total respondents, partially adopted by 29.17 per cent of total respondents and not adopted by 08.33 per cent respondents.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"2016 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127444882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering this, the current research was carried out on a random sample of 200 young sons in-between the age of 18 to 35 of practising dairy farmers of Anand and Kheda districts of Gujarat. The study examined the qualities responsible to shape the family dairy farming skilfulness amongst the sons of practising dairy farmers as the new generation to handle the dairy farming occupation. The research clearly states that the majority (91.00 per cent) of the dairy farmers’ sons had a high to a very high level of skilfulness to handle animal husbandry related operations. The results of the correlation coefficients indicate that skilfulness to handle animal husbandry operations and activities was observed superior amongst those sons who had relatively older age above 25 years, married matrimonial status, the bigger size of family landholding and maintained the bigger size of the herd by their parents, to some extent low educated fathers as well as encouraging mindset towards farming as an occupation.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132266813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the accepted fact that an attitude of an individual plays an important role in determining ones behaviour. Keeping this in view a standardized scale has been developed to measure the attitude of farmers towards zero budget natural farming (ZBNF). A summated (likert) rating scale was been developed. The process started with identifying the dimension, collection of items followed by relevancy and item analysis and checking the reliability and validity for precision and consistency of the results. A total of thirty three (33) statements were framed in which finally twelve (12) statements were finally retained for measuring attitude of farmers towards zero budget natural farming. The scale contains total twelve statements, out of which eight statements are positive and four statements are negative. The scale developed was found highly reliable and valid.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128759285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results indicated that application of insecticide in recommended practices, i.e., indoxacarb 15.8 EC @ 0.015 per cent (79 g a.i./ha) was found most effective in managing leaf folder as compared to farmers practices. Demonstration plots recorded minimum mean pest infestation (0.38 larvae/hill) and higher yield (39.50 q/ha) as compared to farmers practices recorded higher pest infestation (1.44 larvae/hill) and lower yield (32.50 q/ha). The percentage increased in the yield over farmer’s practices was computed to be 21.54 %. Results of study on economic analysis of the yield performance revealed that the recommended practices recorded appreciable higher gross returns (Rs.71,100/ha) and net return (Rs.32,000/ha) with higher benefit cost ratio (1.82) as compared to farmer’s practices (1.52). The technology gap (10.50 q/ha), extension gap (7.00 q/ha) and the technology index values (21.00 %) were recorded. Frontline demonstrations brought out that the recommended practice was feasible and economically viable over farmers practice and was a better option to adopt for managing paddy leaf folder.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131619950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the review of literature and discussion with the experts, 81 statements were prepared on dimensions. Relevancy rating was sent to 250 scientists and extension specialists working in research institutes of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), State Agricultural University and development Departments for critical evaluation of statements on five point continuum. Eighty five judges sent in time were analyzed and aggregate of 74 statements were selected by finding the relevancy weightage scores (RWS) equal or more than 0.75 and mean relevancy score of 3.00 were selected for the item analysis. In item analysis the selected statements were administered to 40 farmers in non-sample area in Dharwad district of Karnataka state. Finally a total of 25 statements were selected for the study based on ‘r’ values (> 1.75) they were included in the final scale. The ‘r’ value of the scale was found to be 0.91, which was significant at one per cent level indicating the high reliability. The scale developed was found to be reliable and valid, hence it is recommended to use the scale to study pesticide use behaviour.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130304487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
