A total of 300 crossbred cattle owners from 30 villages of 10 talukas were selected using the simple random sampling method for the study from August to December 2022. The data were collected based on the pre-tested structured interview schedule. Overall crossbred calf mortality was observed 33.70 per cent in the study area. There was a higher mortality rate in male calves (56.78%) than in female crossbred calves (16.98%) due to limited attention towards the male calf. The mortality rate was recorded higher during the first three months of age (70.78%) and during the monsoon (39.72%). The primary reason for calf mortality was malnutrition/ male calf negligence. Farmers urgently need extension services on scientific calf rearing practices such as providing concentrate feed, cutting navel cord with the sterilized object, providing milk as per body weight, on-time colostrum feeding, provision of milk replacer, calf starter, salt, mineral mixture, deworming, and vaccinations against diseases.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"58 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133686122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Out of the eleven talukas, five talukas were randomly chosen for the study. One village was then randomly selected from each of the chosen talukas, and a total sample size of 75 farmers was taken, with fifteen farmers from each village. The study utilized an ex-post-facto research design and data was collected through surveys during the period of 2018-19. The findings of the study indicated that the majority of the farmers belonged to the middle to old age group and had attained primary to secondary education. They lived in small families and had low levels of social participation. The farmers mostly had low annual income levels and owned medium to small land holding. Additionally, most of the farmers were solely engaged in farming, had moderate access to sources of information, and displayed a high level of innovativeness. The study also revealed significant correlations between various factors and the respondents’ knowledge about the management practices of white grub in groundnut. Education (0.4225) and innovativeness (0.3711) were highly and significantly correlated at a probability level of 0.01. The source of information (0.2566) was found to be significantly correlated at a probability level of 0.05. However, occupation (-0.2245) showed a negative but significant correlation at a probability level of 0.05 with the respondents’ knowledge about the management practices of white grub in groundnut.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114799618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigation focused on the decision-making ability of young dairy farm women in the Navsari district of South Gujarat, specifically in the talukas of Navsari, Gandevi, and Vansda. The study selected respondents from six villages using simple random sampling methods, with a total of 360 young farm women participating in the research. The ex-post facto research design was followed, which involves the collection and analysis of data from past events. The study found that the majority of the respondents had a medium level of perception about animal husbandry as an occupation. Additionally, factors such as age, education, occupation, annual income, herd size, types of ruminant kept, experience of animal husbandry, and mass media exposure were positively and significantly correlated with the perception of animal husbandry as an occupation during the study. Overall, the findings suggest that there is potential to increase the perception of animal husbandry as a viable and lucrative occupation among young dairy farm women in rural areas of Navsari district. The factors identified by the study could be used to inform interventions and policies aimed at promoting animal husbandry as a means of livelihood and economic support in rural areas.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114824890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the basis of research problem and objects descriptive with survey research design were used for this investigation. Multistage sampling technique was used for the selection of study. Village wise list was prepared which were running the agri-enterprise with the help of RAEO and ATMA project officer. From the prepared list of villages, 10 villages (Hatipura, Nepari, Kirawalijadid, Rajpura jagir, Rithoniya, Antari, Dipera, Malibajana, Jarena, and Kurroli) were selected with the help of simple random sampling. In the final stage 10 rural youth from each village was picked up with the help of simple random sampling. Thus, the sample comprise of 100 rural youth as respondents. Traditionally, farmers are ignorant of scientific agriculture and effective agri management systems. Thus, they are unable to deal with delayed monsoons, drought, crop debts, fake seeds and shortage of fertilizer, as a result opt to commit suicide. Hence, the managerial, technical, and innovative skills of entrepreneurship applied in the field of agriculture may build a well-trained agri-entrepreneur who becomes a role model to all such depressed farmers. Agri-entrepreneurship has the prospect of social and economic development, for example-employment generation, poverty reduction, improvements in nutrition, health, and overall food security in the national economy, especially in rural areas. In the face of growing unemployment and poverty in rural areas, there is the urgency of entrepreneurship in agriculture for more productivity and profitability of rural youth.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128720149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Approximately 58% of our country’s demographic dividend is associated with agriculture as their primary source of income. However, due to changing global trends caused by urbanisation, the rural population is more likely to shift their focus to other sources of income. For the first time in Post-independence India, there was an absolute decline in agricultural employment (23.7 million) between 2004‒2005 and 2009‒2010, with 22.5 million being unpaid family workers. So, the current study was undertaken to analyze the extent and pattern of migration in the rural households in three coastal states of India using ex post facto research design with a multi stage random sampling technique. This paper has deduced the pattern observed among the migrated respondents of Purba Medinipur, Bhogarai and Sompeta districts of the 3 states in terms of gender, income, time period, social participation and type of occupation undertaken. This may not have an immediate impact, but it may have long-term consequences in the form of consumable goods for future generations. Certainly, government should come up with new policies formulations made by focusing such pattern in order to stop the people from migration and engage them in agricultural and allied activities with help of extension personals through effective training and awareness programs.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122837864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sampling, questionnaires, interviews, and participant and non-participant observation were all used as research methods. Quantitative data were analyzed using a linear regression model. To analyze qualitative data, thematic analysis was used. The findings indicate that age, access to markets, and access to financing have a negative impact on women’s productivity whereas marital status, land size in hectares, educational attainment, and land ownership have beneficial effects on it. The study’s findings indicate that the communal irrigation system’s impact on agricultural productivity depends significantly on factors such as age, education level, availability of extension services, access to credit facilities, land leasing, and markets. To establish proper land tenure arrangements, the government should put in place an appropriate regulatory framework. In order to improve the country’s functioning agricultural markets, access to financing, and provision of extension services, the government should have policies to strengthen infrastructural development.","PeriodicalId":284553,"journal":{"name":"Gujarat Journal of Extension Education","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133202907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
