This study used the thematic approach in examining the data collected from texts, ideas, and other qualitative data. Hence, NÖldeke’s sayings that are directly related to the topic were collected, and the analytical and critical approaches were used on the texts. The researcher applied the internal criticism method to NÖldeke’s contradictory sayings in his book. This article has two major findings: (1) NÖldeke deems Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the author of the Qur’an and (2) consequently, Nöldeke believes that the Prophet (PBUH) derived the Qur’anic text from the views of the people of the book who inhabited the Arab peninsula. Thus, NÖldeke associates the origin of any aspects of the Qur’an or revelations to the Aramics and the Hebrews, among others. NÖldeke uses this assocation as a basis to claim that the Qur’an is of the biblical origin, and hence, Islam is a derivative form of Christianity. He interprets the originality of all commonalities among the religions to the Jews, neglecting that all these commonalities originate from the same source. NÖldeke makes numerous attempts to prove that the Qur’an has a biblical heritage while simultaneously contradicting himself. He negates his statements by indicting that the Prophet (PBUH) never came into contact with the holy books of the Jews and the Christians. Finally, the article shows that even though NÖldeke’s book is acclaimed, it is in fact full of contradictions.","PeriodicalId":276672,"journal":{"name":"Maʿālim al-Qurʾān wa al-Sunnah","volume":"107 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131042798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is consistent with the Quran’s status as dustur al-hayah (constitution of life) for everyone who utters the words of shahdah (testimony), regardless of where they are. Researchers who are looking into the evolution of the Quranic translation will discover a variety of creativity and innovation that add value to readers, particularly in terms of increasing their understanding and appreciation of the verses' literal and implicit meanings, as well as their desire to interact with the noble book. Based on this point, this study is an attempt to investigate and evaluate the suitability of Khawas al-Quran (‘theory and practicality' of the Quran) as one of the potential aspects to be used as part of the complementary components in the Quranic translation. Alike to Fadail al-Quran, Khawas al-Quran appeals to the Muslim community to be committed and perform good deeds in accordance with particular surahs and verses in the al-Quran since it has a reward factor in the form of certain rewards or benefits to its practitioners. Thus, based on Tuan Guru Haji Yusof Bin Abdullah al- Rawi's unique contribution through his work Tafsir al-Rawi, this study will assess and evaluate the prospective application of Khawas al-Quran elements as part of the complementary components of the Quranic translation. This is a literature review that employs text analysis on relevant sources, with the book Tafsir al-Rawi serving as the primary source, followed by the main books of Ulum al-Quran, tafsir, and the most recent research materials such as journal articles, theses, research reports, and other related materials. The wisdom of the author of this book in the field of study linked to Khawas al-Quran is one of the key findings from this study. He was constantly able to present this feature in the majority of the surahs interpreted, earning Khawas al-Quran priority position as a component of complementary elements in Quranic translation.","PeriodicalId":276672,"journal":{"name":"Maʿālim al-Qurʾān wa al-Sunnah","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132083016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a worrying trend where only the same students are registering for these classes, and even their number is declining. This situation is seen not only in mosques but also in welfare homes for the elderly. Investigations have revealed various contributing factors for this phenomenon. For example, the approach used by teachers is not appropriate to the levels of physical, cognitive, and psychological abilities of the elderly. Therefore, this study aims to propose a specific approach to teaching al-Quran for the elderly based on the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. The library research method was used to select the hadiths that can be used as a reference in developing a suitable aproach for Quran teachers who teach the elderly. Using an appropriate approach for the elderly is imperative, as the wrong approach will discourage them from studying the Quran, ultimately leading to withdrawal from the classes.","PeriodicalId":276672,"journal":{"name":"Maʿālim al-Qurʾān wa al-Sunnah","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114098829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It compiles the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), views of the companions, and legal verdicts (fatāwā) issued by tābi‘ūn. Throughout history since the beginning of Islam, many scholars have been writing commentaries, either detailed or short ones, on this magnum opus. One of the invaluable and detailed works was by Shayikh Muḥammad Zakariyyā Kandhalavi, known as Awjaz al-masālik ’ilā Muwaṭṭāʿ mālik. This book gathers useful and relevant excerpts from hadith and fiqh manuals and other rich information. The present work examined this important book from the hadith perspective and highlights its features that are useful for hadith scholars. The researcher adopted a three-pronged method: (1) the inductive method covering the life and works of Kandhelavi, either published or not published yet; (1) the descriptive method to elaborate the characteristics of his works in the hadith field; and (3) the critical method to examine Awjaz al-masālik. These efforts have given birth to a methodology used to criticise the narrations since the days of the companions. However, applying the methodology to narrations pertaining to the biography of the Prophet (PBUH) or the sīrah has been a challenging task given the multitude of narrations that do not meet the criteria of acceptance by the muḥaddithun that infiltrate the knowledge of sīrah. Thus, this paper aims to scrutinise the methods of criticising hadiths employed by hadith scholars and the application of these methods on the works on sīrah. A qualitative study was conducted by collecting data from the major works on hadiths and sīrah. The finding demonstrates that the muḥaddithun’s critiques of the sīrah narrations are based on the critiques on sanad and matan. In applying the method, it is imperative to be murunah. The reason for considering the hadith was explained, supported by the most correct views, and opinions of scholars on the issue of reciting the Qur’an while one is in the state of janaba (sexually impure) were discussed. The research also clarified the overall meaning of this hadith and some rulings that were deduced from it. It was found that the hadith has other chains of narration with varying degrees of validity and weakness and that there are some differences in its wording. After studying the chains of transmission, evaluating the narrators of the hadith, and explaining the hidden defects in the narration, it became clear that this hadith lies between acceptance and rejection.
