The model originated from our effort to improve older, macroscopic model [5] based on the conservation law of vehicles. In order to keep the proposed model simple and numerically tractable, we make several simplifications: we do not take into account acceleration and deceleration of vehicles and different preferences of drivers and we classify the movements of vehicles into two classes: (i) a stopped vehicle, waiting in a queue, and (ii) a vehicle moving with a constant cruising speed. Under these assumptions the flow of vehicles between two intersections can be described by a piece-wise linear function as a combination of several “ramp” functions. We demonstrate the behavior of the proposed model on an simulated scenario of two signalized intersections.","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131633792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, the vision of the White Paper on National Transport Policy [1] is to `provide safe, reliable, effective, efficient, and fully integrated transport operations and infrastructure, which will best meet the needs of freight and passenger customers at improved level of service'. Government has identified that the provision of public transport plays a crucial role in working towards this vision. Independent of the physical infrastructure and vehicle type, the provision of information has been identified as an important element that provides, or improves, customer satisfaction [2]. Internationally, the trend is to provide real-time information through the implementation of Advanced Traveller Information Systems (ATIS). This paper describes the implementation of an ATIS system for the Jammie Shuttle service at the University of Cape Town (UCT).","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132648923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Supercapacitor based electric buses area possible option but charging the supercapacitor directly from the grid may put extra burden on the grid. In this paper, a city capabus (electric bus which suits a supercapacitor) transportation system failure management has been presented. Capabuses acquire power from Capabus Stops (CBS), located along the ring road of Guwahati city, India. CBS consists of High Capacity Battery, which receives power from the grid in off-peak hours and discharges power to the grid in peak hours. A detailed analysis has been done on the possible failures that occur to the Transportation System and proper solutions have been incorporated for avoiding system collapse. Thus, making the complete system not only environment friendly but also grid-friendly.","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"212 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133964144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, advanced multi-object tracking algorithms were presented. These algorithms consider spatial uncertainties and clutter detections from several different sensors and a fusion process combines all the information in a probabilistic framework. Especially the true positive probability of object measurements is taken into account by these algorithms. This contribution presents an approach to estimate the true positive probability of object measurements in order to improve the tracking results. One source of information is a grid map based motion estimation, which applies the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence. The other source is the result of an object classification algorithm based on the outer appearance of vehicles. First results of an evaluation with real world data are presented.","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134139278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this game, the drivers make a trade-off between the time they choose to use the road, the average velocity of the flow at that time, and the dynamic congestion tax that they are paying to use the road. The trucks have platooning capabilities and therefore, have an incentive for using the road at the same time as their peers. The dynamics and equilibria of this game-theoretic model for the interaction between car traffic and truck platooning incentives are investigated. We use traffic data from Stockholm to validate the modeling assumptions and extract reasonable parameters for the simulations. We perform a comprehensive simulation study to understand the influence of various factors, such as the percentage of the trucks that are equipped with platooning devices on the properties of the pure strategy Nash equilibrium that is learned using a joint strategy fictitious play.","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134249564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We describe predictive driver assistance systems, which aim to make longer-term predictions about the on-road environment, supporting positive HMI with the driver. Given the rapid development of advanced sensing, computational, and algorithmic technologies, intelligent vehicles are now approaching an era in which the vehicle can maintains a full panoramic awareness. Thus, the instrumented vehicle will be available to help the driver navigate the on-road environment, when the driver requests it. As predictive driver assistance systems are developed, it will be shown that cooperative integration, across vehicles, will improve the performance and overall on-road safety. We divide the scope of cooperation systems into four main areas: in-vehicle systems cooperation, vehicle-driver cooperation, cooperation across vehicles (V2V), and finally cooperation with vehicles and infrastructure (V2I). Each level of cooperation will quantitatively improve on-road safety performance, and allow for increased sophistication and prediction.","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133362117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Simulation is widely used to estimate or verify the potential benefits of such cooperative applications, notably in terms of safety for the drivers. We have developed a performance model for 802.11p that can be used by simulations of cooperative applications (e.g. collision avoidance) without requiring intricate models of the whole IVC stack. Instead, it provide a a straightforward yet realistic modelisation of IVC performance. Our model uses data from extensive field trials to infer the correlation between speed, distance and performance metrics such as maximum range, latency and frame loss. Then, we improve this model to limit the number of profiles that have to be generated when there are more than a few couples of emitter-receptor in a given location. Our model generates realistic performance for rural or suburban environments among small groups of IVC-equipped vehicles and road side units.","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114651424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The task is challenging due to the presence of small, closely spaced light spots and the limited computing power of an embedded platform. Thus the tracking method has to be accurate and at the same time computationally efficient. This paper presents a novel method which achieves this task by combining the concepts of interest point tracking and position tracking. In interest point tracking, points are tracked using appearance based features while position tracking makes use of kinematic features. The interest point tracking method in this paper employs a feature set, which consists of well known appearance based features along with a novel light spot environmental feature. A genetic algorithm based search method was used to filter out this feature set from a bigger set. The information from these features is combined with the kinematic features using a computationally efficient method. This fused information is used to track light spots. The new method improved the system performance by reducing the tracking failures by 65% and showed better performance during worst cases like vehicle pitching.","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114746271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methodology adopted utilizes both Origin-Destination (OD) information and traffic counts observed on some of the links in the network to estimate route choice probabilities. Route choice preferences are represented by multinomial distributions and estimated via a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. The proposed model takes into account measurement errors in the link counts, the uncertanties present in OD data and alternative routes choices both inside or outside the network of study. The proposed method is validated on both a synthetic example and the traffic network of Malta.","PeriodicalId":275768,"journal":{"name":"16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116679047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
