Using Social Semantic Web (SSW) and Recommender System (RS) technologies the gPLEc integrates teachers' PLE-based learning competencies and learners' social web and interaction history data to generate personalized recommendations for each learner. The results, achieved so far, confirm importance of teachers' guidance element for successful implementation of the PLE vision. The expected outcome of this exploratory research is to gain knowledge to construct personalized elearning systems.","PeriodicalId":268199,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115811099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a system that can easily classify them for automatic storage is still missing. In this article we propose a repository of learning objects which is capable of automatic classification and categorization based on a semantic organization. The classification is based on a text extraction mechanism which then uses text mining methods. We present a methodology for the initial clustering of objects, and a technique for maintaining the organization with continuous arrival of new objects.","PeriodicalId":268199,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116595845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An eFEC database that consists of 600 facial expression images is built for our research. We also provide reasons on why we need to build our own database instead of customizing and use current available expressions database, and what are the differences between eFEC databases compared with others. You may find comparisons in various experiment results presented. However, this methodology may not be the best way to help many students actively understand underlying concepts. This paper formulates an alternative pedagogical approach that emphasizes the constructive and problem-solving process in computer programming teaching. The proposed modified van Hiele Model has focused on the conceptual knowledge of thinking levels in programming and on the role of instruction in raising levels of critical thinking for a Web-based implementation. Collectively, collaborative learning tools include: discussion boards, e-mails, Internet assignment units, tutorial units, quick-run units, and expert templates, which are all integrated into the environment to increase student satisfaction and achievement by stimulating student motivation and encouraging the perception of problem solving and programming as a learning project.","PeriodicalId":268199,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121683190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Problem-based learning engages learners in collaborative and authentic learning experiences, knowledge and skills are inquired and acquired by collaboration of groups of learners. With the infusion of Web-based technology, this study developed the information sharing mechanism to meet learners' needs of exchanging resources and opinions during the process of collaboration. This mechanism is an open, dynamic and evolving resources pool composed of instruction resources, group-gathering materials and personal learning references. Learners are able to easily give and get information within groups, and also contribute resources for the specific subject of the course.","PeriodicalId":268199,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126426291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We suggest that LOs repositories should be structured so to become a means to improve the pedagogical quality of teachers’ work, and motivate them to get involved both as users and co-constructors. In this paper we describe LODE (Learning Objects Discussion Environment) a collaborative environment where users share their experience on LOs by commenting the items in the repository, expliciting relations among them and contributing new LOs. A prototype was used with a group of trainee high school teachers. The outcomes of this experience show young teachers’ interest and appreciation for this approach.","PeriodicalId":268199,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125257752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
