The diagnosis of Canine Visceral Leishmaniasis (CVL) was carried out in 755 dogs, where the rapid two-way platform immunochromatographic test (TR-DPP) (Fiocruz/Biomanguinhos) and the serological test of Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) were applied. The results showed that all homes with seroreactive dogs were close to abandoned land, squares and/or green areas. There was a significant association between seroactive animals and type of shelter (p=0.008); 54.8% had an indoor shelter and 45.2% of the dogs had a shelter outside their homes. The disease is geographically distributed in 14 (73.68%) of the 19 sample areas in the municipality. Of these, five (26.31%) had cases of Visceral Leishmaniasis in dogs and humans. Eight cases of Human Visceral Leishmaniasis (HVL) were reported during the years 2017 to 2020 in the municipality. Dogs that are located in areas of greatest risk impact the maintenance of natural foci of Leishmaniasis transmission to human and animal hosts in areas endemic for Visceral Leishmaniasis. Such results are essential to assist epidemiological surveillance in the municipality of Lagarto-SE with the implementation of control measures aimed at the insect vector of the disease, the sand fly, to prevent human and canine cases.","PeriodicalId":267088,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contexto & Saúde","volume":"11 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140444620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective of the study to evaluate the risk of developing CVD in adult women using cardiometabolic indices such as plasma atherogenic index (AIP) and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index for insulin resistance. This is an observational, cross-sectional and retrospective study. Data on the metabolic, clinical and anthropometric profile of adult women were analyzed and used for risk stratification of developing CVD through the use of TyG and AIP indices. Of the participating women (n = 60, 28.55 ± 8.30 years), 50% women had an increased risk according to AIP despite having normolipidemia, normoglycemia, and normal BMI. Also, they had higher TyG index values. Further, the correlations of TyG and AIP with biometric and lipid parameters were associated with metabolic syndrome. AIP and TyG index can identify the risk of developing CVD, even in the presence of normal anthropometric and biochemical parameters.","PeriodicalId":267088,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contexto & Saúde","volume":"154 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140443808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work was a longitudinal retrospective study conducted with data referent to the use of blood components between January 2008 and December 2021 in the local public health network of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, at Hospital Risoleta Tolentino Neves (HRTN), Hospital Metropolitano Dr. Célio de Castro (HMDCC), and Hospital Metropolitano Odilon Behrens (HMOB). Objective: This study sought to describe the time series of the number of blood transfusions and blood transfusion rates per general hospitalization through a time series analysis. Methods: Through data from the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (HIS-SUS), this study formulated six monthly time series of the number of blood transfusions and blood transfusion rates per hospitalization. The stationarity, trend, and seasonality of the time series were verified by the unit root test, using the Mann-Kendall and the Fisher tests, respectively. The normality hypothesis of the data was verified by the Shapiro-Wilk test. All of the statistical tests considered a significance level of 5%. Results: The average monthly blood transfusion rates per hospitalization observed in this study were 45.5%, 26.9%, and 26.3% at HRTN, HMDCC, and HMOB, respectively. The highest decrease in the number of blood transfusions was observed at HMDCC and the highest decrease in blood transfusion rates was observed at HRTN. Packed red blood cells were the most commonly used blood component at HRTN, HMOB, and HMDCC (54.6%, 58.3%, and 65.4%, respectively). The time series showed that they were non-stationary, with a downward trend and the presence of a 12-month seasonal component. Conclusion: The decline in the number of blood transfusions should be considered a positive phenomenon in public health due to best use and quality management, since a decrease in blood donation rates was also observed.","PeriodicalId":267088,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contexto & Saúde","volume":"53 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140444377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a constant lack of commitment to the quality of these products by companies poses risks to consumers’ health. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the protein content and compare it with the nutrition label of different protein supplements. This is an analytical original investigation. It was verified whether the food supplements comply with the label presented through food analysis (Kjeldahl method, ash content and moisture percentage) of the composition of various national and international brands (n=51). A total of 51 different protein-based supplements sold in Brazil were analyzed. The results showed that the protein values advertised on the nutritional label are similar to what the product has (P value > 0,05) and are within the 20% tolerance limit according to the current law. Also, there are similarities between different types of products (P value > 0,05) regarding their ash and water content. In conclusion, the nutrition facts of protein supplements reflect the reality of the bran of these products.","PeriodicalId":267088,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contexto & Saúde","volume":"22 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140443098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We postulated that BPA triggers oxidative alterations, altering immunocompetence and contributing to physiological dysfunction. To evaluate the effects of BPA on the oxidative and immune system, Californian earthworms were reared in a culture medium containing different BPA concentrations for 24 and 72 h. Coelomocytes were used to evaluate the effects of BPA on oxidative markers, cellular proliferation, and apoptosis, and immunocompetence effects were investigated by yeast-exposure assay and the modulation of genes related to immune response. Low BPA concentrations induced coelomocyte proliferation, imbalanced superoxide/NO levels, higher micronucleus frequency, and apoptosis. BPA also induced Amp1 gene overexpression and a low efficiency of dead yeast capture. The association between DNA damage and changes in innate immune metabolism could be related to the action of BPA, which is associated with the risk of physiological disturbances and non-transmissible chronic diseases.","PeriodicalId":267088,"journal":{"name":"Revista Contexto & Saúde","volume":"18 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140442529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Trata-se de um estudo transversal, com 534 parturientes nulíparas. Foram utilizados modelos de regressão gamma e regressão logística, para o nível de significância p<0,05. O uso do partograma, venóclise, métodos não farmalógicos para alívio da dor, analgesia neuroaxial e manobra de valsalva estão associados a redução do tempo do período expulsivo. A cardiotografia na admissão (OR=0,20), ocitocina (OR=0,22) e jejum (OR=0,15) durante o trabalho de parto diminuíram as chances de parto vaginal, enquanto que, partograma (OR=11,00) e métodos não farmacológicos para alívio da dor no parto aumentaram as chances (OR=2,12). O estudo não revelou associação entre as intervenções e o grau de laceração perineal. O uso de ocitocina (OR=3,04), a realização manobra de kristeller (OR=9,03) demonstraram aumentar as chances de intercorrências após o parto, com prevalência para a hemorragia pós-parto.
