It can also be because of underlying systemic condition but most prominently it is due to improper maintenance of oral hygiene. AIM: The study aims at assessing awareness and knowledge of halitosis among general population and their perception of it. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 512 individuals of age 18-70 years through online forums due to COVID 19 pandemic situation. A pre-validated questionnaire with 22 closed ended question on Google forms were circulated on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. The collected data was subjected to statistical analysis. RESULTS: It was observed that 66% believed that halitosis was related to oral hygiene and 68% believed that smoking and alcohol consumption caused bad breath and 60% agreed that tongue coating and food lodgment caused halitosis. About 64.6% stated that bad breath affected their social life by reducing their self-confidence. CONCLUSION: Halitosis is the one of the unattractive aspects affecting psychosocial interaction and relationship, it needs multiple approach to treat. The result of the study indicates that awareness of halitosis among general population is very high whereas knowledge on prevention of halitosis is comparatively less. The Medical and Dental field is a long emotionally taxing journey. Stress progressively develops over the course of Medical/Dental education. It is challenging to strike a balance between leading a successful medical profession as well as pursuing their favored Hobbies/EA’s. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: 1.Evaluate the number of dental and medical practitioners participating in hobbies and extracurricular activities. 2) To correlate the involvement of extracurricular activity in terms of progress, joyfulness and level of achievement. 3) To suggest a schedule to continue long lost hobbies and extracurricular activities. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out amongst the dental and medical practitioners in Chennai between March 2017 and May 2017. A total of 120 self-administered questionnaires were distributed amongst dentists working at 2 private colleges and as dental and medical practitioners in private clinics. The questionnaire contained demographic details along with a set of 14 questions which included 6 openended questions and 8 closed-ended questions. RESULTS: Upon evaluating the number of people involving in extracurricular activities, it was found significant that doctors working more than 5 hours could not continue their activities regularly and those whom worked less than 5 hours a day were able to involve regularly. Around 13 people did not answer those two questionnaires. The correlation coefficient was positively correlated 0.012 which showed a weak positive correlation proving that the dentists who balanced between profession and extracurricular activities outperform the people who did not take part in extracurricular activities. This study showed that working less or more has a significant impact the extracurricular activities to a negative correlation. (- 0.047). CONCLUSION: Involvement by the dentists and medical practitioners in hobbies and extracurricular activities and it was found significant that, • Majority of them who engaged in activities were continuing them regularly. • They also wished to reschedule their time to participate effectively in hobbies and activities. Candidate phyla radiation (CPR) bacterial group is a recently identified, but highly diverse and abundant group of ultrasmall bacteria. CPR group includes Absconditabacteria (SR1), Gracilibacteria (GN02) and Saccharibacteria (TM7). Real time PCR and metagenomics based techniques are also employed to detect CPR species. TM7 organisms has been detected in periodontitis patients, HIVpositive patients with necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis, smokers with periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis cases and in mature plaque samples procured from orthodontic treatment undergoing individuals. It is found that TM7 isolate grow as short rods or cocci in dual-species biofilms with Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Parvimonas micra or Streptococcus gordonii. The positive association of ultrasmall bacteria or CPR microorganisms with periodontal diseases spotlights the capacity of ultrasmall bacteria to modulate the immune response. The CPR microbiome is enriched with virulence factors and is adapted to a parasitic lifestyle that leads to disrupted host homeostasis. This makes the individual susceptible to periodontal tissue destruction. In future, we should instigate researches to know more about the actions and properties of ultrasmall bacteria and their association with periodontal diseases. Following tooth extraction, alveolar bone loss and structural and compositional changes of the covering soft tissues, as well as morphological alterations takes place. The repair process results in marked changes in the height and width of the alveolar ridge with an average of 0.7-1.5mm of vertical and 4.0-4.5mm of horizontal bone resorption which may lead to difficulties at the time of implant placement. This lead to a technique called ‘Socket Preservation’, also known as alveolar ridge preservation. This procedure reduces bone loss after tooth extraction to preserve the tooth socket in the alveolar bone. The goal of socket preservation is maintenance or enhancement of facial, interproximal gingival contours and height of interproximal papilla. Various materials and procedures are used for socket preservation. Some of them are: connective tissue grafts, free gingival graft, biocol, alloderm, prosthetic “pontic” socket plug, autologous fibrin concentrates, GTR membranes and bone graft materials like autografts, allografts, xenografts and alloplast. Thus, socket preservation at the time of extraction is one of the most significant procedures in the periodontal paradigm for maintenance of health, youth and beauty. Many people complain of dark gums as unesthetic. Gingiva is the most frequently pigmented intraoral tissue, more pigmentation concentrated in the incisor region which may interfere with the smile line and patient may feel conscious about the appearance. In such patients, esthetic periodontal plastic surgery can give excellent results. CASE REPORT: In this case report we have attempted and compared, two different depigmentation techniques using a semi-conductor diode laser technique in maxillary anterior arch and conventionally by scalpel technique in mandibular anterior arch. RESULT: Both scalpel and laser improved esthetics. However the laser treatment resulted in no post-operative bleeding and no post-operative pain as compared with scalpel technique.
