The Relationship between Resilience, Burnout and Turnover Intention","authors":"Shaabna Z","doi":"10.23880/nhij-16000263","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.23880/nhij-16000263","url":null,"abstract":"Introduction: Globally, nursing is perceived as a demanding and stressful profession. In recent studies, the psychological well-being of employed nurses has been given considerable attention. Considering that nursing students are the future of the nursing workforce; it is important that we increase our understanding of the importance of resilience in this population. Aim: This study examines turnover intention and burnout among Palestinian nursing students and how resilience and sociodemographic factors affected these outcomes. Methods: The study included 409 nursing students from three major institutions in the West Bank-Palestine. The data was collected using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Burnout scale, as well as key demographic data, including the intention to leave the nursing profession in the future. Results: Participants displayed moderate levels of resilience and burnout, and the analysis revealed a negative correlation between resilience and burnout (r = -0.35). The study findings indicated that almost half of the students were not satisfied with their nursing major and half of them intended to leave the nursing profession in the future. Higher resilience was associated with intention to stay in the nursing profession, male gender, satisfaction with nursing major, employment, living on campus, receiving support from friends and family, and studying a week or more before the exam. While intentions to leave nursing, lack of support from family and friends, higher academic levels lower GPAs, studying an hour or less per day, and studying one day before an exam were all associated with higher burnout. Conclusion: Effective measures should be taken to reduce students’ burnout and turnover intention.","PeriodicalId":264619,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Healthcare International Journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126438204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In clinical settings, It has been observed that fourth-year nursing students commonly omitted critical information from the assessment of mentally ill patients, neglecting their requirements as well as losing valuable learning opportunities. For this reason, an evaluation form has been created and implemented in order to optimise the student’s learning opportunities. The main objectives that motivated the design of this instrument were to support the nursing student’s learning process, promote a systematic record of the mental examination, and apply specific descriptors in the assessment of the patient’s mental state. This evaluation form was designed according to a systematic and standardized registration system, including the main areas that compose mental health assessment. This cost-effective tool has significantly facilitated the student’s learning and training in mental health nursing. During the five-year period in which this instrument has been applied, student records improved in quality, precision, as well as a positive opinion about it from students. Besides, this document has been recently used in the context of distance education and clinical simulation in mental health by assessing patients in simulated situations, with positive outcomes","PeriodicalId":264619,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Healthcare International Journal","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117063775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One metric used for patient satisfaction is call light responsiveness within a unit. Aims: To meet target call light responsiveness benchmarks at a 45- bed telemetry, medical– surgical nursing unit within a Magnet ® designated hospital. Methods: An evidence- based practice (EBP) project model was utilized. The chief nursing officer worked with an EBP nurse mentor. A PICOT (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Time) question was developed to guide the literature search. Literature was critically appraised, and a resulting intervention was established. Nurse educators taught the unit nurses how to perform the intervention, and intervention integration was assessed via direct observation. Call light responsiveness data were collected to assess whether targets were met. Results: Five articles were deemed as applicable to the PICOT question, and the best evidence determined that using the 4Ps (pain, presence, “potty,” and positioning) during structured registered nurse (RN) care rounding every 2 hours improved patient outcomes. After RN education and implementation, hospital call light responsiveness began to improve. Linking Evidence to Action: Rounding without intention increases RN workload and does not result in improved patient outcomes or a satisfied patient. RN rounding every 2 h is effective and efficient when done with intention (i.e., adhering to the 4Ps). RN patient rounds had done every 2 hours with intention improved patient satisfaction and other patient outcomes such as a decrease in call light usage.","PeriodicalId":264619,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Healthcare International Journal","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122845260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Delays in administering first aid risk threatening the safety and even disability and claiming lives. Practicing the provision of basic life support for ordinary people is suspected to prevent the worsening of the condition of heart attack sufferers. This study aims to determine the effect of basic life support training on the motivation, knowledge, and skills of trainees in providing first aid when cases of cardiac arrest occur in the community. The design of the pre-experimental pretest-posttest one group is used to compare the motivation, knowledge, and skills of the people in Lahat City, South Sumatera Province, Indonesia before and after training. The participants numbered 86 people, determined by the purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire data collection instruments and observation sheets, motivational questionnaires were adopted from MQ John Smith 2017, while knowledge and skills questionnaires were compiled concerning Basic Life Support (BLS) literature. Basic life support training intervention is carried out as many as four sessions within a period of 3 months. Based on the analysis of the results obtained from abnormal data, the test conducted by the Wilcoxon Test is known to have a significant increase in the variables of knowledge, skills, and skills. Respondents’ motivation after training, is directed with sequential p-values namely BLS to motivation (p = 0.033), skills (p = 0.001), and knowledge (p=0.000). Conclusion: Basic life support training effectively improves community readiness to provide first aid to heart attack victims. This program must be disseminated until a basic life support community is formed on standby in the community.","PeriodicalId":264619,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Healthcare International Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132147881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
